PREP Panicked Co-worker!

Loretta Van Riet

Trying to hang out with the cool kids.
Hi, all. A not so funny thing happened at work this morning.

My shift relief person who is your typical "what, me worry?" kind of gal, looked
all upset and asked if I knew how to purchase gold and silver?

When I asked why? She said her financial advisor told her to empty her safety
deposit box and buy physical gold and silver, NOW!

She asked why would her very conservative "money- guy" act this way?

I kept my best poker face and gave her some choices.

I would be concerned about any mainstream financial advisor who said that. They are taught not to say that. I would be also be concerned about an upcoming robbery.

Yeah, I would include telling her to keep her mouth shut about anything that she buys or where she decides to store it lest she sets herself up for either a robbery or theft by those who might be tempted to take advantage of her in this situation.

Once the died in the wool financial advisers start recommending the metals you know the timing is getting tight.

I'm also wondering how a financial advisor knows what this woman has in her SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX to the point he knows she should empty it? Shouldn't he be only commenting on what investments she has with him. How would he know what else she has and why would she have anything of cash/coin value in her box? A smart person would never keep that stuff there, especially if you needed to get it if something should happen. That box will become bank property behind locked doors for the duration of the event, and be lost when the doors open again. In other words...gone.

Maybe her adviser was just served divorce papers and he was so shocked and blind sighted....... Is this in California?

2x2, I bet you a Morgan dollar that either I'm right or your right. Throw the stale donut to the chickens, they'll turn it in to a commodity. :D

Good idea, everybody gets to eat,,,,,,,, after the chicken eats the donut.

Neither here nor there.

And this should include NOT telling her financial advisor about any physical metal purchases.

Gotta remember that "Financial Adviser" for many people,
is just a euphemism for a richer or more socially prominent relative or friend.
(or the nerdy INTJ/INTP friend or relative that got "volunteered" into the job...) :D

Well now would be an excellent time to buy gold or silver because it is down right now.

BS on the advisor. You can't eat silver nor gold. What good is gold to someone who wants ammo, soap, guns, toilet paper (my first choice of preps), etc. How is one to exchange it? Seems to me goods are worth more than gold and silver because you can't eat what you don't have.

It is quite possible she purchased bearer bonds from him and she has physical possession of them.

This makes sense! Yes, if you don't hold it, you don't own it. I still would be very cautious about metal purchases. It's too bad that she bought bearer bonds in the first place, if that was the case. I wouldn't trust that adviser, not that I trust any of them.

I'd get myself a new adviser - better to advise a client to make sure the firearms inventory and pantry are ready for the long term .... trading a bar of silver for a $12 box of shotgun shells doesn't make to much financial wisdom .....

Never used a financial adviser, but now is a good time to get some gold/silver, but like anything, I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket. Having immediate stocks of food, water, protection, and other daily necessities will be more in demand if things go south.
