ALERT Our dear 1911user believes The board is tired of movies.

On The Level
I must be missing something. Did 1911user say they were going to stop posting the movie thread? That'll be too bad. It's not movie season where I live right now. It's 80F and lockdown infringements are nearly gone.

What?
1911, you're the only reason I came back here ... ask Deena.

You had movies accessible to all and I enjoyed them.
Then you tucked 'em behind a members only sign in kinda thing
to protect 'em and I couldn't get 'em no more ... so I called Deena.

"Deena, wassup? The movies, they ain't assesible no mo".
Deena says "SIGN IN!"
So, I sign in and wallah (Voila for you Frenchies).

Keep 'em commin Brother ... please.

1911's movies are the high point of my week. I download everything he brings us. I look forward to what surprises might be in store, and keep hoping for certain ones to show up.

As I mentioned some time back, 1911user briefly told me his search methods, and I went and tried it out for myself. It takes A LOT of work and digging to come up with these, and I'm totally impressed.

As I’ve told him before, doing a movie thread provides less feedback than the Dance Party threads. That’s because people contribute to the DP threads, but only consume the movie ones. It’s a much more passive experience feedback-wise. I usually watch a couple each week, but don’t give feedback.

OK, people do have an interest.

I hope you like my choices/judgement. Without any feedback, that's all I have to use for choosing films.

It would really help if everyone who reads the thread or watches a movie gives a quick like/dislike/something for just 2 each week. Don't worry about a flowery word response :), just click on a few each week that move you good or bad. If you want to provide details about one, even better.

EDIT: this is not a scheme to get my click count up, I don't care about my click count. I don't need that participation trophy.

I don't have the data to watch any, but I do check out the selection.
I understand the extreme data limits for some. That might be an interesting poll with all of the people who are rural. Maybe I'm just frustrating them... Movie downloads use a lot of bandwidth. It'd probably be cheaper for some to buy a dvd than pay for the bandwidth to watch/save.

So now you don't like my flowers? :: injured pout :: Yaknow we luv ya and the movie thread- just remember all those polls we took about which threads people cared about? The ones people say matter most get the least feed back. I dunno why.

I know I've been less effusive in my responses because I've not felt well, but I'm always smiling on the inside.
As to choice of film, I personally enjoy being surprised by things I'd never have thought to look for.
I'm sorry. It can be a thankless job, I know

Does 119g of movie downloads sound as though I am not interested? Keep them coming, my interested vary so I leave the selection up to you, though maybe finishing the MCU would be nice.

Thanks again I do enjoy the movies. I don't have a TV and internet movies are all I watch for what little entertainment free time I have.

There’s a saying in the IT industry: They’ll never tell you when you’ve done well, but you sure hear it if you’ve done poorly. That applies to you directly. In all your posted films, I’ve only seen one or two that I’d consider “dogs.”

I have a suggestion. No idea if it will fly. Each week in your thread, make the OP a poll. It’s multiple choice so members can select more than one option. For each film:

Movie title - liked it
Movie title - didn’t like it
Movie title - didn’t watch it
…..
(Next movie title)
…..
Etc

This might be too much trouble for some/most, but if it works, you’d get direct feedback every week.

We were just laughing about parts in “What About Bob” this morning.

You manage to post many movies I would never think of to watch.
I find the separate access to the links easier to navigate too, for some reason.

Thank you for all the time you take each week.

Also, do a little legwork and send 1911user your recommendations and links.

This one deserves some clarification.

It is hard to search (and find) specific movies especially if they are/were popular. If they are easy to find and popular, they have probably been removed so they aren't easy to find (and they hope you'll go buy them instead). Sometimes I can find what has been posted very recently (only a few days or weeks old), but they disappear quickly most of the time.

What I do is find groups of movies, not specific movies, just a group, big or small. Then I have to learn the titles of the movies. That can mean decyphering a cryptic title or maybe I have to watch 5-10 minutes to learn enough details to find the title. Once I have a title, then I maybe recognize it and/or go to IMDB to learn more about it. If it is something that seems like a good choice to post, then there is the issue of how large it is? Is it large enough to look decent yet not too large for people to download? There is also the foreign language part especially if there are a few, brief parts in a foreign language where the subtitles are missing (often). It's frustrating when I miss those. That's the high level of what it takes.

I do keep suggestions in mind if I stumble upon them though.

I know it is largely a labor of love, but never doubt what you do is appreciated.
When I think of all the cool stuff members here contribute weekly, Dance party, your movies, Sar's free books, Hammer's odd beer recommendations in the Weekend thread(actually, I'd ignore those unless you have a cast iron stomach)
I think we have a very unique forum. We offer so much more than news.

That's a good idea, simple to understand and use. I'll try it next week.

Hiding the direct movie threads in the Media Center SIG seems to be helping.
I'm more convinced that quite a few views of the movie threads come from outside search engine hits.

That's one good reason I only put them up Friday evenings now. Even if someone makes a complaint about a film, it'll be Monday at the earliest before it is likely pulled.

Definitely appreciate the threads. It offers up stuff I've not seen before that catch my interest. And some old favorites that I've not seen in a while. I just have missed visiting it lately because life has been more than a little busy which means that I don't have time to stop for 2 hours. I can promise you, some days I wish I did.

I can flip from The Art of Racing in the Rain to The Wild Geese to The Alamo (original with John Wayne) to The Milagro Bean Field War, to A Walk In the Clouds, To Alien Meets Predator. I'm easy to please. Keep 'em coming, it's appreciated.

I don't always have time to watch movies, but I always note what you recommend, and while I have watched many of them, your recommendations are a reminder that I might enjoy re-watching them. Your hard work is appreciated, so please carry on. :sal:

I don't know if you are already doing this, but if not, then maybe a suggestion? It may be that the board members have diverse interests in what kind of movies they want to watch (or are in the mood for, any particular weekend). So maybe you could assemble a selection of movies such that there will be at least one of each genre (as it were). I'm thinking:

SF and fantasy; action/adventure; mystery thriller; war (action or drama); westerns; romance; comedy; musicals
