It is hot and blistering here, and the air is a sauna. So, we are staying inside.

With covid numbers rising in Florida, we start a new level of protection tomorrow: pods. Every classroom is now a pod, and both teachers and children are not allowed to interact with another pod. We do have teachers being tested, and if any come back positive, there will be tracing back the last two weeks to see who interacted. It has been most interesting to see how the CDC guidelines have been adapted as need arises. This has all been an experiment in social interactions, especially wearing masks. Some of our children are not handling it all well. We've tried, and continue to try, to make it a game.

Today is prep for the week as usual. Our patio garden is doing well in spite of the heat. The heirloom beefsteak tomatoes are just so delicious. My chili peppers are racing out of the ground like they are being chased. The jalapenos are growing, but not as fast. Our red bell and green bells peppers are also doing well.

I am reveling in the Hallmark Christmas in July! We need a little Christmas... And not just the light-hearted feeling it brings, but the celebration of Jesus. There are many ways to celebrate Christ, but this is my favorite! The men in my life tolerate me well. But they also like how much it makes me happy, and that has to count for something!

Dinner will be homemade Italian sauce and a mix of sweet and hot Italian sausages, over ravioli, with port wine and little chocolate candies for dessert.

How about you? Share a square or just what's on the menu by you!

Hot and humid here today. We had storms that knocked our power out for over 2 hours earlier. The rain definitely cooled things down for just a bit, but now that the sun has come back out, the heat and humidity are on the rise again. Feels like a sauna.

We had to cancel our July 4th festivities, because of a C-19 scare, so we celebrated yesterday at DS's house. We had a fish fry with all the fixings and hamburger/hot dogs with all the fixings, too. We all had a great time. DS is great when it comes to grilling and frying fish! Everyone who came brought a dish to compliment the hamburgers/hotdogs or fish. Lots of food.

Tonight, I'm making chicken noodle salad with home fries. I've got fresh summer squash out of the garden, so will also fry those, and fresh cucumbers out of the garden sliced up. I'm waiting for the first ripe tomato. A few are turning, but not ready, yet. Dessert will be Reese's Peanut Butter cups, or ice cream Snickers Bars. I'm still binging on those....

Well- AnnieO was a wee bit tipsy yesterday. I had worked out in the yard in the morning before it go too hot. At 9am it was already mid-90's. Came in a took a shower, cleaned around the house a bit. Decided I think I'll make a cocktail and it went downhill from there LOL. :chg::chg:

I made chili in the Instapot, Spanish rice and beans in the dutch oven, and hatch chile chicken in the air fryer. How I managed to get it all put away some in the freezer and some for this week I'll never know. I woke up this morning and the kitchen looked like a bomb went off. I NEVER go to bed with a dirty kitchen. But hey- I have some great food for a while :cool:

Yesterday was a bombshell. Left at 8:30 am to grocery shop. Really stocked up on most everything. Back home at 11:30 am.
Had put up 4 quarts of whole tomatoes by 1:30 PM but didn't put them in the pressure canner(not enough). Took a 2 hour nap.
We had talapia, sublime corn on the cob from the garden, sliced tomatoes and onions from the garden.

Started canning again right after cleaning up the kitchen(thank goodness for dishwashers)Put up another 12 jars of whole tomatoes and ran the pressure cooker. Went to to bed a happy woman. Not a bad days work for an 82 yo woman. Today is a rerun of yesterday except we are having T-Bone on the grill instead of fish. The corn-on-the-cob is to die for.

Hot seems to be the order of the day everywhere, although here in Piedmont, NC, it is just a tad cooler...or less hot...than preceding days. Sadly, the heat will remain for the foreseeable future.

The garden is in and it is wonderful. Fresh sweet corn, zucchini/yellow squash, cucumbers, green peppers, and the ever-treasured tomatoes. Add to those morsels is a bit of grilled steak and I'll call it a party. The heat is taking a toll on the squash plants as well as the cucumbers but they've been great while they lasted.

I'll be canning some tomatoes in the next several days and that is something I just love to do. I think because it's messy! Plus, they don't have to process too long. Earlier last week, I made some zucchini relish which is surprisingly tasty. If I didn't know it was zucchini, I wouldn't know it was zucchini! There are onions galore but the potatoes didn't do too well this year. The only sets available were Yukon Gold and they would not be a top favorite. I wanted to can some potatoes but I've learned that the red, new potatoes are best for that. As the saying goes, "maybe next year."

Whew! 107 and rising this afternoon. Too hot for me. I woke DH up at 5 and we were out watering the fruit trees that arnt irrigated and had about 10 lbs of plums picked by 7. The close neighbors were the happy recipients.
At the moment I'm reading a Kate Shugak novel and checking my tablet.
Dinner is an Enchilada Casserole, some fresh green beans and a salad with ranch dressing and ice tea w lemon. No sweet tea for this half Yankee.

It's 92 in the shade here so nothing spectacular is being planned for dindinz.

I have a bunch of leftover garden veggies from the last couple days and a salad, a couple of ribs and a dab of meatloaf.

If I get ambitious, maybe I'll make pesto and pasta. Will have to reassess the leftovers if there are too many I'll wait until tomorrow on the pesto and pasta.

Have a good week you guys!

102F outside. I need to go out an work in the backyard pruning and pulling ivy. It always sounds good until you step out the patio door and get hit with a blast furnace of hot air.

It is so much slower work in the heat and I get less done than I had anticipated. Luckily, much of the yard has shady spots. Lots of rests, water breaks and a hat today. Unfortunately, the work can't wait as I have already lined up green bins and need to fill them up and get rid of the stuff.

Dinner will be zucchini with garlic mater sauce and cheese. Unfortunately, the rats ate my blossoms, so these are Costco's finest zukes.

Finally cooled off here a little bit. I don't think it has gotten over 80 in the house today...major relief.

I had some left-over roast beef in the fridge so cooked up a frying pan of hash for lunch. Delish of course. Have doubts about even needing to make supper but if so, it will be bacon wrapped pork ribeyes on the grill and a salad.

It was hot and humid in central MD. We have had thunderstorms all around us, but nothing in the immediate area, so the humidity keeps climbing.

It was a lazy day around the zoo. Everyone doing their own thing and just hanging out. DH and I did an afternoon run to Wally World for our weekly perishable and fill in the missing pieces run.

We came home, put things away, and I started dinner prep. For dinner, we had roast chicken, broccoli, stuffing, salad, assorted fruits, and sliced bread. It was enjoyed by all.

While the kiddos cleaned up the kitchen, I took the chicken carcass and threw it in the crockpot covered it with water and added with some carrots, onions, celery, a couple of bay leaves, salt, pepper and a swig of apple cider vinegar to make bone broth. I'll let it cook on low until sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.

I ended up running up to the orchard to pick up peaches this afternoon; grabbed some of their apple cider donuts while I was at it; fixed myself a peach shortcake using a donut as the base once I got home - not bad lol!

I stopped by the grocery store on my way home from the orchard - a coffee sale noted on their sign drew me in. $60 later.... Ah well, almost everything was on sale and all will be used - 9 yo grandson especially will be excited that the Teryaki noodles he likes are finally back in stock. And 8 yo grandson will be happy that I finally remembered to pick up the Jolly Ranchers he's been asking for lol!

Supper tonight was Italian Beef since roasts and banana pepper rings were on sale. It went well with the chips that were on sale at Dollar General yesterday; then we had watermelon that I'd picked up at the fruit stand for dessert. I may have a snack size Reese's Fast Break candy bar later on - Dollar General had a sale yesterday; spend $7 on Reese's, get $2 off, so I snagged 7 pkg of the 5 ct snack size bars. I had been stocking up on snacks for 9 year old grandson's Junior Football League practices/games when I'd catch a good sale, but they just came out today saying that they cancelled JFL due to the 'Rona :gaah: I'm getting pretty darn tired of the 'Rona...

All the way up to 81 outside today, enjoyed parking lot church this morning with the car windows down and a nice breeze. Green mountains, Carolina blue skies and white clouds all round.

Came home to find little Addie sitting at the gate. She got away again from about a mile down the road and managed to get here without getting squished by a Sunday driver. If you don't know Addie, she is a pug/Boston cross who looks like an over-large brindle French bulldog, bat ears and all. Addie crams 50 pounds of personality into a 25 pound body and is absolutely irresistible, it would hurt my heart if anything happened to her.

It took a bit to track down Addie's people, everyone was out visiting, but word got to Addie's grammaw and papaw and they came and fetched her home with them.

Dinner tonight is chicken for the first time since Rona got started, smothered in mushroom soup and spices, with Jasmine rice and steamed veggies.

DH grilled steaks. I picked some green tomatoes from the garden for fried green tomatoes. Cucumber, green onion, tomato salad from the garden and the best home grown sweet corn from a local grower. It's sweltering outside. Called my DD and she is cooking salmon tacos and baked squashed dressing. An odd combo but the grands love it. They live about 15 minutes from me so me not seeing them for more then two day is out of the question. We pay service to do the yard work so that has been wonderful for us. Life is good here in this little southern town and I thank the Lord every day for my blessings.

I spent Three hours building a bottle tree for DS as he just got married this past week. They went to JP and when all this quarantine nonsense is done we will have a family celebration.

It was very hot and I got a little over heated

Tonight we are having a very rare (as in not very often) steak with a baked potato.

There are two female deer that eat out of DWs hands and the deer empty the seven gallon water container we fill every day.

There were five babies with spots cavorting about.

Took my Old English Shepherd on his walk today and we came upon a couple riding horses. His eyes got wide and he just wanted to get past them, the big baby

Today has been another scorcher in the DC area, think it's the 14th? 15th day in a row with over 90 degree temps. A mite warmish.....

This weekend has been Alfaman heaven to tell the truth. Monday I finally found the vehicle I'd been searching for and bought it. Found a totally! rust free example and snapped it up. It was 4 1/2 hours down to pick it up and the same coming back so Monday was a looooonnngggg day.
Here's what I bought. Wife thinks it's cute, I love it. And I got it for 500 bucks off the advertised price too.

2004 SUZUKI VITARA 4X4 - cars & trucks - by dealer - vehicle...

After the workweek I've finally had a chance and have been playing with it. When I buy a car, I like to "zero time" it-IE refurbish modify and upgrade everything I possibly can before I really get it on the road. So between yesterday, today and tomorrow here's what I've done and will be doing.

Replaced 2 window regulators, the blower motor relay, flushed and refilled the radiator, bled the clutch, put all new front discs and rear drum brakes on it with ceramic pads(at 153K the rear shoes still had 3/32nds pad material on them. They were the OEM shoes!) flushed and refilled the front differential, transfer case and rear axle, Wired in a double cigarette lighter power plug wired straight to the battery (to recharge my tablet when I'm working), changed the headlights out to Bi Xenon high low HID lights, all the other bulbs in the vehicle were swapped to LEDs, and bought a good used right sized full size spare for it (the spare looked like it was off a low rider). FLushed and refilled brake fluid, flushed the power steering system and fixed a small leak in it (tightened a loose high pressure line) and had the A/C system flushed and filled (now blowing ice cubes thank you!)

Monday after my doc appointment the new AM/FM CD/ DVD player radio goes in (once Crutchfield sends me the proper wiring harness for it; they sent me the wrong one.RRRR..) along with the new speakers. New plugs go in too; along with a new fuel filter (had to order it) and new serpentine belts. And the other two window regulators, new window switches, the new LED light bar on the roof and a thorough scrubbing. The car was "sorta" clean when I got it; once I'm done it's going to have a thorough! interior shampoo and a good coat of wax put on it too.

Needless to say it's been a busy but most enjoyable weekend. Actually getting my hands on it and doing work has been like mental therapy, although my arms wrists and hands are in the middle of a legendary arthritis flare up right now it feels good to do something. The missus is very happy to see me with a wrench in my hands, I'm paying for it in pain but oh what a good feeling !

Dinner was simple-a tasty cucumber and tomato salad with balsamic vinagrette dressing. And we used the cherry tomatoes that came of the plant in our little patio garden-very tasty!

Tomorrow I have a doc appointment and the rest of the day off to play with the vehicle. Should be a good day, I hope.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Wow, I love your new car, Alfa. Manual, 6 cylinder and 4 WD. Awesome. People are gonna be jealous of you.

:)

I didn't do much this week. Went to the dr for a well visit and she changed up my meds a little so some nasty ankle swelling would go away. It's working on it. Plus she made me buy a standard cuff/stethoscope BP outfit and I have to take my BP twice a day. In 2 weeks they're gonna call me to see if the meds need further adjustment after reading them the BP numbers, but it's kind of a minor thing, you know? My son is doing it for me. I told him now you have a very handy new skill. And maybe I'll get my slim ankles back because cankles are UG-LEE. And they HURT.

Dinner wasn't much -- just some sliced chicken and Swiss sandwiches on rolls and some garlic mashed potatoes. Dessert was Chips Ahoy chocolate chunk cookies and a glass of low-acid orange juice. That stuff is so good.

Well, stay cool, everybody. Whatever way you can.

:)

Thank you. It's not much, but I like to take any car I keep and build and modify it to my liking. That's part of the fun of ownership, really make it yours. And it's a bit rare I just found out-only 4860 of the Suzuki Vitara were made in 2004, last year of production for that model-production was concentrated on the Grand Vitara and XL 7 models instead. And the yellow insures I'll never lose it in the mall parking lot either :)

Hope the swelling goes down-get that and swelled hands with flare ups. It does hurt !

It's the cutest thing !! I had an old Geo years ago. It was just a 4-cylinder but it was a stick. I loved driving that thing.

You have fun with yours. I know you will.
