money? whats that?
According to the article, a failed launch of a rocket attack against Israel was spotted, and an airstrike made sure it wasn't going to happen again. I don't see a major escalation, but I do applaud Israel for doing what had to be done. Maybe I read it wrong. There is indication that this could be the opening to something that could get much bigger. If that's true, then all bets are off.

The biggest mistake that Israel made was not pushing the ragheads out of gaza after the 1967 war ended. They should of been sent to Egypt and Israel would of claimed the land as a spoil of war. Now it is too late and the never ending cycle of violence will continue forever.

Is Islamic Jihad the same as ISIS? I saw a "Palestinian" qualifier. So, their version of ISIS? Or is this the new & improved Palestinian jihadis??

For those who take note of such things--

The 9th of Av--anniversary of the destruction of Jerusalem and traditional day of "bad events" for the Jewish people--begins sundown August 6 and ends sundown August 7, 2022

And the first and second Temple. It can be on different days according to our calendar, but Israel reckons days/years differently. And not just "bad events" while true, it's also days of morning.

And on another note.

MSM is blaming Israel for the dust up. And poor, poor Palestinians.

BTW FYI Israel did take over a large part of Gaza, initially, and then gave it back for peace. Which everyone is still waiting on. Just for factoid purposes the PM that gave the land back suffered a stroke, like in the next couple of days and stayed in a coma for years. Big fat guy. Might not have been the greatest of decisions, just saying.

It would be informative if we knew approximately how many such missiles they had in storage that way we would know if 50 was a lot of missiles to them or if it was just cleaning out a rarely used shed.

I can give you an idea. You've at least seen the old WW II battleground films. Sometimes you see a Russian invention. A truck with missile launchers on the back. Each truck could send as many as 20 to 24 of those missiles out at a time. Hitting even one truck like that would save countless lives. Can you imagine the show if they hit a motor pool full of them?

I try to take note of these things. The Lord does things for a reason. What reason? Are you seriously asking me? I have no clue. But He doesn't make mistakes.

Could we also keep all the current info in this new thread, please? I don't want to have to wade through pages of an old thread just to find updates.

Curious about Palestinian Islamic Jihad? Read the latest about this Iran-backed terror group in Gaza

Latest Developments:
An Israeli strike has killed Taysir al-Jabari, the Gaza commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), which the U.S. Department of State designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) in 1997. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Jabari “was responsible for multiple terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.”

PIJ had threatened to attack Israeli targets after the arrest earlier this week of senior PIJ figure Bassam al-Saadi. Israel’s internal security service, Shabak, said Saadi was the PIJ leader in the West Bank and was behind the “building of a significant military force.” Shabak added that Saadi “was a significant factor in the radicalization of the organization’s operatives in the field.”

PIJ Profile: Founded in 1981, PIJ is the second-largest militant group in Gaza after Hamas. In the 1990s and again during the Second Intifada from 2000 to 2005, PIJ targeted Israeli civilians with suicide bombings, including the Netanya mall bombing in December 2005, which killed five Israelis and wounded fifty.

Dependent on Iran: PIJ is the Palestinian militant group closest to Iran, on which it depends for financial and military support. Thanks to Iran, PIJ in Gaza has acquired military-grade weapons that range from small arms to man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), rockets, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), and explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). PIJ fighters have also trained inside Iran.

Remotely Led: PIJ has a local leadership structure in Gaza, although its senior leaders reside in Syria, Lebanon, and other countries in the region. Unlike Hamas, PIJ does not compete in elections, employ civilian front organizations, or govern any part of Gaza. When weighing the risks of attacking Israel, it therefore has less need to consider the impact of a potential military response. Ziyad al-Nakhlaheh, Khaled al-Batsh, Hader Adnan, and Muhammed al-Hindi are among PIJ’s most visible leaders and spokesmen.

Independent from Hamas: Despite PIJ’s cooperation with Hamas, which also has close ties to Iran, PIJ has launched attacks on Israel at times when Hamas would have preferred not to escalate. These attacks seek to demonstrate that PIJ is the most militant organization in Gaza and can act independently.

History of Clashes with IDF: In November 2019, an IDF strike killed Jabari’s predecessor, Bahaa Abu al-Atta, resulting in several days of clashes between PIJ and the IDF. In February 2020, the IDF conducted strikes against PIJ militant infrastructure in both the Gaza Strip and Syria.

There has been a sharp increase in PIJ casualties over the last year and half, with numerous militants killed during engagements with Israeli personnel during counter-terrorism operations. Coupled with the establishment of PIJ fighting units, or “katibat,” in several West Bank cities, the increase in violence suggests an organized PIJ effort to expand its military capabilities in the West Bank.

Expert Analysis from FDD’s Joe Truzman: “Israel likely felt an attack by Palestinian Islamic Jihad was imminent and reacted first. The history of conflict with the PIJ suggests a high likelihood of an armed response in the coming days by PIJ and the other militant groups that belong to Palestinian Joint Operations Room, including Hamas.”

UN Mideast envoy: Deeply concerned by escalation between Palestinian militants and Israel
The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, on Friday expressed concern over the security situation after Israel launched Operation Breaking Dawn against the Islamic Jihad, which began with the elimination of senior Islamic Jihad terrorist Tayseer al-Jabari.

“I am deeply concerned by the ongoing escalation between Palestinian militants and Israel, including the targeted killing today of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader inside Gaza. This takes place amidst mounting tensions across the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip in recent weeks,” he said in a statement.

“In the past few hours, at least 10 Palestinians were killed by Israeli airstrikes. I am deeply saddened by reports that a five-year-old child has been killed in these strikes. There can be no justification for any attacks against civilians,” added Wennesland.

“The continuing escalation is very dangerous. The launching of rockets must cease immediately, and I call on all sides to avoid further escalation,” he said.

“The progress made in gradually opening Gaza since the end of the May escalation risks being undone, leading to even greater humanitarian needs at a time when global resources are stretched and international financial support for a renewed humanitarian effort in Gaza will not be easily available,” warned the UN envoy.

“The UN is fully engaged with all concerned in an attempt to avoid a further conflict which would have devastating consequences, mainly for civilians. The responsibility is with the parties to avoid this from happening,” concluded Wennesland.

Responding to Wennesland's statement, Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan tweeted, "While the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is launching missiles at Israeli civilians, the UN envoy expresses ‘deep concern’ for the neutralization of a senior terrorist behind an imminent attack on Israelis. Will he also express deep concern over the neutralization of al-Zawahiri?"
