First, go check out my post on the China Threatens to Attack Taiwan thread. It is about the $200 million movie Xi the merciless had his "official" communist propaganda department design with Hong Kong film makers. It includes some serious Hong Kong acting and technical chops.

After you do that, ponder the 10 steps of genocide and realize what Xi plans to do to the USA, from what he has already done.

Or ignore what I am saying. I just got back from Target. I bought a reserve 1500 floor heater. I bought an extra vortex fan for next summer. I bought a filter pack for my air cleaner. I went through ALL my stuff, from Flashlights, to step ladders, assorted tools etc: IT IS ALL MADE IN CHINA. 85 PERCENT OF IT. And the other stuff is still made over seas. Maybe 5% is American made, likely out of "globally sourced stuff, and assembled in USA.

If you need shoes, socks, clothes, ANYTHING AT ALL it is almost certainly made overseas, likely China.

Heck, I bought some orange candy things at Rite Aid that were made in Mexico the other day.

I am warning you all, that when Xi pulls the trigger, if you ain't got it, then you are fried.
China and Russia despise us. Our leaders in charge of ALL our institutions are TRAITORS.
If we survive the next 3 years having a bunch of assorted spare parts and stuff, like an extra fan or two will be priceless.

One thing I haven't seen coveraged much in all this shortage stuff is the lack of logistical depth.

There were THREE heaters, three fans, and three air filter packs and I took one each. The fans are likely ones the ones back ordered in August when they ran out. No more till June on the regular summer.
Xi flips the switch and the USA gets nothing at all.

We did it to ourselves.

The cost of labor in America is cheap considering what the actual employee takes home!

But the mandated liability on that employee is a whole nother employee that is a deadbeat and doesn't do nothing but steal the employers energies, and that's called "all payroll liabilities"

But the poor employees have unemployment insurances, workers comp insurances, and S.S./disability insurance. Not to mention general liabilities and the cost of all compliances, the employer is but a cash cow for the socialistic system!

And because of the above mandated BS. most all our industries have gone elsewhere. And let if a 64 year old laborers happen to die at home when their not working, guess where all those safety net monies go that they and their employers have paid into....into more safety nets! The dead get nothing!

But oh, the employees get low wages and shit jobs. By mandate in round about ways, granted.

This is exactly why I built up businesses then ended up selling them.

We spent the last several decades exporting our industries. Before we moved to the mountains, DW and I lived in Robeson County, NC - one of the poorest counties in the state. But there were jobs - all sorts of manufacturing jobs, especially clothing but others too, because of a work force willing to accept low wages. Converse had a GIANT shoe plant there, for example. When we left there was well over a million square feet of manufacturing plant buildings standing empty.

Ghostly reminder of what was now rubble

LUMBERTON — The Converse manufacturing plant, once Robeson County’s largest private employer with nearly 3,000 employees at its peak of operation, has been reduced to piles of rubble.

The demolition came as a surprise to many county residents. Copart, a national company that sells damaged vehicles, had as many as 5,000 flood-damaged vehicles on the site after Hurricane Matthew, although the number is a fraction of that now.
Neither Robeson County’s Office of Economic Development nor the Tax Office could confirm if the 159-acre property, which is located at 4019 N.C. 72 just west of Interstate 95, has been sold.
“There may be a new deed that has not been processed, yet,” said Wendy Jackson, Tax Office real estate manager.

A Copart employee said he believes the Texas-based company has bought the property and would begin building its own facilities. But that could not be confirmed.

The 360,000-square-foot building and the land still are listed for sale on Robeson County’s website, said Greg Cummings, the director of the county’s Economic Development Office.

“It was one of the nicest industrial sites we had,” Cummings said. “It had rail, natural gas and sewer. We were still showing it.”
Although the Converse building was showing its age, Cummings estimated it would cost $12 million to build a similarly sized facility. A vast expanse of concrete and a waterlogged basement are all that remain.

The building is on the tax books at $1,965,600, meaning the county would collect just more than $15,000 a year in property taxes. A new appraisal will occur after the demolition, according to the Tax Office, reducing its value and the taxes owed yearly to the county.

The site began its industrial life in the 1960s as a B.F. Goodrich manufacturing facility. Storied athletic footwear company Converse bought it in 1972 and began producing the popular Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes, among other athletic and leisure styles.

“Chucks,” as they are known, originated in 1923, and at its peak was the official shoe of the National Basketball Association. Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird and almost every basketball player in America wore the shoes.

The company had a strong affiliation with the University of North Carolina’s basketball program, with the Tar Heels sporting the footwear. A former Tar Heel basetball player, Micky Bell, became president of the company in 1994 and resigned that position in 1996.

After Adidas and Nike shoes with superior performance technology replaced Chucks, the shoe had a second life as a retro/counterculture icon. Worldwide sales continue today.
After the North American Free Trade Agreement in the mid-1990, it was generally believed it was only a matter of time before the facility closed and moved the jobs to Mexico.

Converse declared bankruptcy in 2001 and ultimately closed the Lumberton facility, taking away 1,200 jobs that remained, and plants in Texas and Mexico. Asia is now home to the shoe manufacturer.

The Converse building and property were sold in 2003 for $500,000. It was sold again at auction in 2015 for $460,000 to Greg Cabral of New Jersey. In the same year, Converse was bought by Nike, a world leader in athletic and leisure shoe sales.
Once the debris is cleared away, Cummings hopes the site may find a new life with Copart or another owner.

Thanks Dougie. I still remember your grabbing up all those canned goods when your dad died and the seattle riots were just starting; though I'm a life long prepper, hearing the perspective from a different voice than usual triggered my intuition, and prompted me to pad the pantry a bit further, too, even for me

... given the huge price increases we've seen since and the scarcities has made it all the more useful.

Funny that one thing DJT was doing was bringing some of it home; just another reason among so many that he could not be allowed to continue, I am sure.

Are we so weak that we could not start turning out our own goods?

Edit to add: Yes I know about the goober-ment interference in manufacturing, however what about when they are no longer an effective entity?

The reason that prompted this was xi the merciless and his $200 million movie rewrite of the battle of Chosin reservoir this time with a chinese military victory and the American massacre.

Now the ONLY reason you do that is if you are preparing YOUR PEOPLE FOR WAR and sooner rather than later.

Say what you want, but I regard that movie as a war warning for Guam, Pearl Harbor, and the boomer based at least.

I watched the trailer and it is like something the Nazis would put out, complete with kill all the americans that you can.
By the way, I quit both smoking and coffee back in June 2019 when my dad died. Also have had maybe 2 six packs of beer since then. Put the money into preps, plus I wanted the clarity.

Seriously, go read about xi's genocide movie, watch the trailer and feel the hate.
We go to be entertained at a bond movie and xi primes his people for war with the usa.

I can't afford much, but I was thinking of what you bought. I got one small table fan in my bedroom I use all the time. Cheap plastic fan. Once in awhile it makes a noise. In the summer I bought I one of those all metal old fashioned fans from the 1950's. It works, just has a knick in the cord. All I need is electrical tape which I keep forgetting to buy. Will do now. Got AC in bedroom, but can't afford new. Would have to take AC out of front room if bedroom one broke.

I could live in the bedroom if I had to. I also have a new STRONG table fan in the front room if I need it. Blows lots cool air. Mostly use it for the dogs on the couch. Most of the time I don't need AC in front room as I have trees surrounding the house except bedroom is warmer cuz it's south. I'm glad you mentioned the fan cuz yep I bet next summer won't be any.
Better get some extra boxes of toothpicks too! They come in handy.:D
and boxes of Band-Aids at Dollar Tree and especially fly paper.
In case you are not aware, from what I understand, most caffeine is made in China.

Yes, Really.
which reminds me to stock up on cheap tea cuz I don't drink coffee. I can get 2 cups out of one teabag. I squeeze and save. Cheap at Aldi's.

Oh, I wanted to say I have about 10 pair of good sneakers I get from Salvation Army. Got couple pair of boots. Can't afford to buy much now, but have food coming out of my ears. Got 8 bags of dry dog food and a few cat food, but only have 2 cats.

The last of the Greatest Generation is sitting in a wheelchair across from the nurses' station, too drugged up to see the end of what they fought for.

Know any younger folks capable of building anything? At all...?

You ask scary questions, my friend.

A new TB member's son is a Race Car driver (first in his class for this year) who designs new machines to do what he needs done, or McGyver most anything. He comes by it honest from two previous generations of race car builders, mechanics, and masons. Pretty rock work and very high level large contracts.

This guy is just flat amazing and there are many more out there that have the same skillset or work ethic. Not all kids are lost.

Yes, all three of my sons (ages 37-42) can design, enhineer, jury rig, build a luxury house or a survival lean to. The youngest has been a stay at home dad (on contract with his machine shop to essentially work whenever he can fit it in) for his 3 daughters. Well be helping him butcher 5 hogs in the morning. They exist in large numbers in flyover country.

Jrnyquist's opinion on how close we are to a US/china war. the video is on his page and runs 1 hour and 20 minutes.

End Game: Man in American Interview

Are we in the end-game of an East vs. West Cold War that never really ended? If so, how might we tell who is winning? In The Tao of Spycraft: Intelligence Theory and Practice in Traditional China, Chapter 14 covers the topic of political intelligence, with a subsection titled “Signs of a Doomed State.” Here we read classic commentaries from ancient Chinese sages. Some of the warning signs might be applied to China, others might be applied to America. Are both countries doomed?

Consider Yen-tzu’s observation that the ruler of a doomed state “likes to boast; his wisdom is meager but he likes to rely on himself, he is estranged from the noble an lowly; the great ministers neglect the rites; he inclines to flatterers and sycophants while slighting worthy men, takes pleasure in being rude and uncouth and in manipulating the common people; the state lacks common laws; the people lack pattern and order; he takes those skilled in sophistry as wise, those harsh to the people as loyal … takes pleasure in other people”s grief and finds profit in their hardship; his virtue is insufficient to embrace the people and his government is inadequate to nourish them; [his] rewards [are] insufficient to stimulate them to goodness and [his] punishments inadequate to prevent evil — this is the behavior of a doomed state.” (p.412)
With these precepts in mind, watch my Man In America interview with Seth. Which country is in a better position to prevail and which is boxed into a corner?
