A lifelong friend, Dave Tanner, wrote this song in about 1972. It appeared on his first album but neither the song, music or lyrics can be found anywhere on the Internet.
While laying in the hospital bed these past few days, this song popped into my head. After Pachy’s passing, it reverberated even louder how fragile our lives really are. We just never know…
I reconstructed the song from 52 years ago.
I have an mp3 of it I pulled from the original vinyl album.
I corrected the order of a couple of the verses after I found the mp3 and listened to it.
I know from your comments on many recent theads, this song will resonate with many of you.
One More Day
I’m praying to God, give me one more day. I’ve got some loose ends need squaring away and some things I just have to do, before I come to you, please give me one more day.
Made some plans, I ain’t seen through, you know Lord, all my big dreams too.
There’s some folks need taking care of, they’re the ones I love, please give me one more day.
Lord, I know my time has come, but there’s so much left to be done. If you take me now, I can’t complain, if it’s just the same, please give me one more day.
I won’t take long Lord to say goodbye. I won’t back out, I won’t even try, and Lord, I am happy about my chance at the promised land, just let me wash up before I take your hand.
And Lord, please give me one more day.
