about 12 or so years ago I stocked up on canning lids, quite a few. They don't seal well for vacuum sealing. Is there anything I can do to make them viable?

You can try simmering them in water which you've added some baking soda... its how the Amish treat lids they are reusing; they say it softens the sealing compound. Try a couple tablespoons of soda to each cup of water.

If you're going to use them for vacuum sealing warm them up before you use them.

I use an old heating pad that I have a tea towel on. I place the lids rubber side up and then cover with the remaining towel. I set the heating pad on low. That way I have time to get all the stuff ready for vacuum sealing.
Works for me. It softens the rubber to make a good seal

This also works with those lids with rubber gaskets from spaghetti sauce or pickle jars, etc. Soften the rubber, place the lid, place the jar inside a vacuum canister larger that the jar and vacuum seal. It works lol

Thanks for the suggestions. If I had to can what is in my freezers I'd need those lids.
