Prep Genrl Old Wheat Flour/Dog Treats?

I found a 4-year-old jar of wheat flour that got pushed and hidden in the back of the pantry. Is it okay to use this in homemade dog treats?

If there isn't any mold, and it doesn't smell rancid, it's ok to use. I have some that was old that I went ahead and vacuum sealed just for our dog's treats.

would you share your recipe for the treats please.
I googled it and changed it a little as follows
2 1/2 cups wheat flour When I run out of wheat I will use what I have on hand.
2 lg eggs
1/2 cup pumpkin (I used cooked sweet potatoes closer to a cup)
2 Tablespoons of peanut butter (they say organic I used Aldi's crunchy just be sure the peanut butter is not sweetened with xylitol. Sugar is not that good but whatever, your choice.)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Mix it into a dough you can add 1 teaspoon of water if needed. I didn't need it.

Roll it out 1/2 inch thick and cut with a cookie cutter I used a pizza cutter.

Bake at 350 for 40 min.
My dog loves these things she sits in front of the counter where the cookie jar is and cries.

They stay good on the counter for a week longer in the fridge. You can freeze them too.

2 1/2 c flour
1 egg
6 tablespoons bacon grease
1 tsp brown sugar
1/2 cup dry milk
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c cold water

In a large bowl, knead together all ingredients. Roll out about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares with a knife. Place treats on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 30 mins.

SouthernBreeze, I just made your recipe but instead of garlic, I used powdered ginger. I appreciate a way to use up bacon grease. A great recipe, easy to make and the dog loves it. Thanks

You could also use peanut butter powder or a small amount of peanut butter instead of some of the bacon grease. Your dog won't mind if you experiment a little.

Southern Breeze I just made your recipe for dog treats and kept the bacon grease in and put in three tablespoons of peanut butter powder. I also use wet milk and leave out the water. Found out ginger is bad for dogs so omitted that.

I am telling you what no wonder my dog is doing cartwheels and splits. I tasted one it's pretty close to shortbread.

Wheat is also well known for causing allergy flare-ups in dogs... some are ok with it, others not.
