…… Old Sta-bil Treated Gas -Should We Add Pri-G to it ?

First, I know we should have rotated the cans, but we didn't.

We have 4-5 gallon cans that were treated with Sta-bil about 2 years ago, put in a shed and then a bunch of misc items got put on top/around of them (ie, they got buried). We were cleaning out the shed and "found" the cans.

My questions are:

1. Would you personally use the gas that is in them ( as -is) in your vehicle or riding mower ?
OR
2. Would/should they be treated with Pri-G and then used ?

As with a lot people money is tight and being able to use this gas would be nice.

Thanks in advance, Genny

I would not put it in my car because Auto emissions systems are sensitive, and expensive to fix. If the gas is not green, and if it does not look or smell nasty then I would use it in my mower in a heartbeat. You can also fill your mower half with new gas and half with old if it has lost too much octane. But no sense in wasting it.

Something you don't hear mentioned much because people don't like to think in non simple terms is that "Heat" has everything to do with how long gas can be stored. Contrary to misinformation- Gas does not have a standard shelf life. It is dependent on other factors. If your shed is really hot then the gas won't last so long. Also gas with ethanol will last a lot longer if stored in a plastic container. Metal attracts more moisture. And a metal can will rust. No point in treating it at this point if you can use it up fairly soon. The treatment will not reverse anything. It will only help to keep it from getting worse. But even the treatments have their limits.

I can't see as it would hurt anything, as long as the gas is still reasonably good. Pri-G (and -D as well) say that it's ok to overtreat with their products. Their base product is petroleum distillate plus whatever magic additives they put in.

Proof in the pudding. Run your lawn mower to almost empty and put some Pri-G in its tank and then a gallon or two of your gas and see what happens. If it doesn't work, drain out that gas and figure out something else. If it works ok, I'd split the gas that's in those cans between them and several empty ones, then run down to the gas pumps, add the 5-gallon amount (IIRC it's around 10-12 cc per 5 gal but that's off the top of my head) and then top off each can with fresh gas.

But that's just me; I'm not that familiar with Stabil.

Should still be good as is for another year and if double dosed good for another three to four years.
Adding more Sta-bil to it now will not help! It has to be done at the time you filled the gas can and added to the gas can before you fill it.

I have used two year old gas treated with Stabil in my car. I do make sure I have a least a 1/2 tank of "fresh" gas to mix it with. Have not had any problems.

I did switched to Pri-G treatments this last year or so.

I concur with prior comments - would try & use gas asap. Don't advise adding PriG to 2 year old gas.

As long as its non-ethanol gas I wouldn't be concerned. You could give it a smell and a look but its likely OK. You could mix a little at a time with some fresh gas and use it up in the small engines if really concerned.

Regular gas doesn't store as well regardless of additives. Do not prep with it.

Adding an additive now will do nothing to improve the gas quality.

Concur, I only buy premium which doesn't have ethanol for gas; it's used in the mower, chain saw, splitter, woodchipper, etc. and add Pri-G to it. I've used gas that's several years old without any problems.

Add PRI-G and shake the can. Let it sit for a day to let the PRI work. Use it in non-automotive applications.
