I just finished making some southern fried chicken livers and mashed potatoes. Got me to thinking, what is everyone's favorite confort food recipe(s)? What do you absolutely GOTTA HAVE when you're stressed or when you need serious emotional soothing?

:D

Give it up everyone!

Chicken livers - blah!! - didn't you have real food when you were children?

How about bread and hot milk and sugar.......

Or a fried egg sandwich, or a potato chip sandwich.....

Or good old reheated chili and garlic toast which we are about to eat now. To celebrate Trump's win!!!

(chicken livers........phooey - you guys probably like tripe too)

Homemade bacon gravy and biscuits. It's my favorite comfort food.

I can't even look at chicken livers. Growing up we had chicken livers twice a week and they were always served with lima beans. Ugh.

My fav is chicken (noodle, rice, whatever) with sharp cheddar melted in and some pepper.

Yum, yum, yummy

Quick & easy -

FRIED CABBAGE WITH KEILBASSA (great for low carbers)
This is a quick and easy dish.
1 stick butter or margarine
1 small head of cabbage, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 pound keilbassa, sliced into round pieces
1 (15 ounce) can rotel tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Melt butter in large skillet. Add cabbage, onion, and cook on medium high for about 5 minutes stirring to keep from sticking to pan. Add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer for 20 – 25 minutes.
Makes about 8 servings. Only 4 g net carbs per serving.

Neither here nor there.
toss up between meat loaf with mashed potatoes (even though I can't eat them anymore I still dream of them) and green beans cooked with a little bacon and onion or my mother's version of beef stew that OC still insists is a new England boiled dinner because beef stew meat isn't supposed to be as large as I cut it, and ditto that on the veggies, oh and I top it off with cabbage in the pot during the last twenty minutes, to be served with fresh baked biscuits or homemade bread.

Freedom Isn't Free
Growing up, my parents always called it American Chop-Suey. They were both from Rhode Island.

Ground beef, sauted green peppers, onions, elbow mac and a can of condensed tomato soup.
Salt and pepper to taste and grated parm.
I love it and still eat it at least a couple of times a month.

My mother made something called slum gullion, which is very similar to American chopped suey, except she used potatoes instead of pasta. Gotta love a dry stew!

My parents have been gone almost 30 yrs now, but you and fairbanksb just brought back a wonderful memory! I remember having that as a child, but it was with canned chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce, and served over boiled potatoes that had been mashed with a fork. Definitely going to make this very soon. I can still remember the wonderful flavor - thank you!

My favorite comfort food is when someone else is doing the cooking; I take great comfort in that, and will eat what ever they put in front of me! :) Someone else's cooking is always better than my cooking....

Before my heart attacks and other medical problems, it was chocolate mint chip ice cream with barbeque fritos mixed in. Sounds gross, tastes GOOD!

Had a nice meal yesterday.

Cooked some spaghetti al Dente meaning firm not over soft. Coated it with plenty of butter and grated lots of nice parmesan cheese over it. Then added sea salt and black pepper.

My favorite is very similar with ground beef, onions, elbow mac and a can of petite diced tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce. That's what I just called macaroni.

you can substitute radishes for potatoes and they are quite good. I haven't mashed them yet, but I have put coked them with a roast and they do taste like potatoes.

me, I don't have any comfort foods, I'm always on a diet.

Home made Chai Tea instant mix.

1 c powdered milk
1 c vanilla coffee creamer
1 box french vanilla instant pudding mix
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp powdered cardamom

2 Options:

add 2 1/2 c powdered instant tea to above powdered mix
OR I take tea bags and make my tea, about a qt at a time or more... pour about 1 1/2 c of tea into a big mug...put in about 4-5 TBSP of Chia mix and sweeten as desired.

I LOVE this stuff...I'll never lose weight but this is my comfort "food". I've prepped for it too...can't live without it.

Some really strange tastes, around here.....whoever heard of potato chip sandwiches??????????????????

Anything chocolate, for me! I do love cocoa. Or, how about my mom's recipe for tomato soup....I get a hankering for that, once in awhile.
