Ok gang, here is the breakdown of the TB2K folks after 317 votes on the "100 Days..will you make it" poll:

76.97% will survive 100 days or until TEOTWAWKI ..... not suprising for this board, not at all

16.09% can hang on for a month. I reccomend all of you read A.T. Hagan's excellent weekly prep threads and search for the prepping on a budget material available throughout the web.

6.94% of our members are toast.

Thanks to all for those who have answered that poll. And now, here's a fun one. What items have you bought that you didn't think about a year ago for your supply closet/bin/bomb shelter?

Think about that. I did and went shopping.:D

(FYI, this is a Multiple Choice Poll)

I'd honestly rather not say on a public forum, but let's just say you can't eat it or drink it, but it's about the most important prep item you can have. Well, I've bought a whole lot more of that.

FYI, I got a battery powered TV from my parents who realized that I live in Hurricane Hell. Now I'm glad I got it to watch my beloved Bucs when the power went out one time.

So I'm not a totally dedicated Red Dawn prepper. :D

we got a battery operated tv, with radio on it, becaue if the grid around goes down, maybe we can pick up a radio station, or something, for news.

Hey I bought all that stuff!

Even the cat litter even though I do not have a cat, it is a great absorbent...

I still keep buying stuff that wifey threatens to hit me with a fry pan...

Well, must say I gathered and/or regularly rotate all of the stuff on that list that I needed or wanted years ago.

BTW, I use my battery T.V. all the time as the bathroom T.V. (on plug-in adapter of course.) It's small and doesn't take up counter space. One of my secret girly indulgences is to watch the tube while taking a nice long bath.

During the last year I bought a solar powered battery charger, which I never would have considered before, because I read about it here.

I think I have more seeds on hand than I usually have at this time of year. And just generally MORE of things.

Well, the only thing we've bought that we weren't considering a year ago was a dehydrator. Everything else we've been working towards - or ar still working towards.

LdyH had originally opted to not rely on a dehydrator, figuring to can everything. However, after quite a while of considering, she has decided that the lids will eventually wear out or age to uselessness. To that end, we spent part of our tax-refund on a 9-tray Excalibur.

I'm *considering* a batt-powered tv/dvd combo as a portable/post-event entertainment device.

What items have you bought that you didn't think about a year ago for your supplies?
Shaving Cream- we make our own soap, which I use for shaving. post-event, I might just let it all grow.
Cat Litter/Doggie clean up supplies - we live on a sand ridge. Plenty of au natural supplies right there in the yard.
Lysol - we don't use it, so we don't stock it - for disinfecting, we use colloidal silver.
Pain Relievers (Aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, Jack Daniels) - already stock it
Board Games - am appalled at the number of people *without* games, we have tonnes!
Battery Powered TV (and tell us why) - under consideration
Beer/wine making kit - been slowly working on this for a while already
Solar Panels (any size) - already stocked
Battery Powered Fans - under consideration
Junk my other half hates - I do this DAILY!!! :D

During an ice storm in 2001 we were without power for 5 days. There was no news at all on the radio stations . I bought the battery TV, car inverter plug, solar lights, and floresent camp light as the preps I had didn't work as well as I had thought.

Be sure to recycle your shaving cream fairly often. I found a can of shaving cream I had put back and it had no propellant left. Only a little fizz when I pushed the button. Maybe buy an old fashioned shaving brush, container and soap.
Maybe even buy a straight razor and strop for sharpening. Ouch, doubt if I will be shaving my legs very often!

The same can be said for anything that requires a propellant.

Solar Powered Battery Charger

I have everything on the list. However, what about a solar powered battery
charger?

Wow!

Makes me think I'm a rash hoarder. :D I have no less than three battery powered TV's. Couldn't do without them. I take one to work when things are getting hot and heavy in the news (oncoming 'canes, terrorist attacks, etc.)

Seabird

Edited to add: Thank Heavens for the extra TV's. During the 10 days after Hurricane Francis, when my little house was filled with extended family, no elec (or A/C...) the extra battery operated sets helped to keep the teenagers in the living room happy, the little kids in the extra bedroom happy, and us big folks had our news in the kitchen/ family room.

Got the first three and use on a daily basis w/ LdyH's goat-milk soap for foam. Got two straight-razors and a strop tucked away for "later."

Got a GSI Vortex (hand-crank) blender--may not have ice but will have cold liquids A word of caution regarding straight razors: I used to use one all the time but had to get rid of it when I went into the military. Got one about a year ago thinking I could reduce expenses over time by using it. Problem is that my vision has changed as I aged. I assume it can be done but shaving with a straight razor while wearing bifocals is an ongoing lesson in first aid. Glad to have styptic pencil. :ld:

Thought about all that stuff and stocked some of it YEARS ago...

> Got a GSI Vortex (hand-crank) blender--may not have ice but will have cold liquids

HAY! ya need ice for a "propper" margarita! - what kind of a prepper are you???

On razors - the old fashioned ones (not straight) can be moded to do skin grafts. Pizza cutters can be nicked to spread out the skin in a viable layer...

As to an earlier post - methinks thin layers of latex in a circular pattern were being refered to....

I've spent the last year contemplating the life of a Luddite and being on my own completely without any benefit derived from another--if I can't fashion/find what is needed, then just do without. No matches or lighters or magnifying glass, no binoculars, no glasses=legally blind but I can pretty much get by, no metal items, no more cloth, no more shoes. No more buying. No trading. No, absolutely no contact with others.

Would I wither and die? Maybe. Likely? What to do?

My deep thinking for the year.

You will have contact with others, it will happen. The question is with who and what type. But that's another poll, for another day..

Ummmm....well-I think most everyone here preps for an 'End of the World' situation that only lasts a few weeks then goes back to normal or something. :D

I'd lower those survival odds drastically.

Shaving cream? What's that? I usually use a Bic and shave my face/head dry. I have a set of straight razors for when Bic is a smoking crater in Illinios or wherever.

Solar panels? Got a couple still in their boxes from 8 years ago. I can set them up in a coyuple of hours if neccesary but then again-what am I going to use them for-the T.V. that I have no use for?

T,V.? Guess you don't wanna miss Oprah when TSHTF. :D

Cat litter? Well if I HAD a cat it could crap outside or would become a meal anyway. I've never needed cat litter for something sand and or leaves would do and they are free and all I'd need to pack is my foldup shovel.

Since I walk around in 'Yellow Alert Mode' all the time I live pre-prepped. So most of what I have isn't something I don't use anyway-got more of some but other stuff I consider unnecesary like the TV-If the balloon goes up watching TV is going to be the last thing on my mind. I'll be busy cutting wood and trapping meat and so on.

Yup John-that Was fun.

Geez-that's not the SHTF...that's 'The Blue Laagoon'... Don't forget your sister. :p

I have bought more board games and that resulted in being without internet or tv for a month. Made me and everyone else here realize that we needed some games for times like that.

We have also purchased another battery operated tv/radio....we already had one but hubby ran across this one at a flea market for a really good price and it's a much better one than what we had.

I'm always working on stocking more food when there are funds to do so.

I have everything except a battery powered tv and fan. I am more of a radio person, so I can do without tv. I don't have a solar panel, but my landscape lights are solar.

I found that I had most of this stuff stocked already.. but added more this year.

Had a battery powered tv for ages (one of those tiny color ones) Wife has one as well. I figure in an emergency thats all the TV Ill need. However I can power any tv on the solar or genny so either way I have info from tv.. and thats the main reason I got it.. TV in an emergency is just another source of intel.

Countertop ice-maker. Produces about an ice cube trays worth of ice every 20 minutes. Way faster than the frig. It doesn't keep the ice cold, you need to put it in a cooler or a margarita in a timely manner, but it beats having to keep the frig/freezer running.
