On the fifth anniversary when eight members of a Pike County family were found dead in their homes, one of the men charged is admitting to his involvement in the murders.

Edward "Jake" Wagner appeared in court Thursday to change his plea on multiple counts to guilty including eight counts of aggravated murder.

On April 22, 2016, eight members of the Rhoden family were found dead at three trailers and a camper near Piketon.

The victims were 40-year-old Christopher Rhoden Sr.; his ex-wife, 37-year-old Dana Rhoden; their three children, 20-year-old Clarence “Frankie” Rhoden, 16-year-old Christopher Jr., and 19-year-old Hanna; Clarence Rhoden’s fiancée, 20-year-old Hannah Gilley; Christopher Rhoden Sr.’s brother, 44-year-old Kenneth Rhoden; and a cousin, 38-year-old Gary Rhoden.

Jake, along with his father, George “Billy” Wagner III; his mother, Angela Wagner and his older brother, George Wagner IV were arrested in November 2018 and charged in their deaths.

One of the victims, Hanna Rhoden, was the ex-girlfriend of Jake and they shared custody of their daughter.

Authorities have said a custody dispute between the families may have been a motive for the killings.

Prosecutors say the Wagner family spent months planning the killings, which happened at three trailers and a camper near Piketon.

Most of the victims were repeatedly shot in the head, and some showed signs of bruising, as if they had been beaten. All but one of the victims were shot multiple times in the head.

Three young children at the scenes were unharmed.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The youngest suspect in a family of four charged in the execution-style killings of a southwestern Ohio family changed his plea from not guilty to guilty for his role in the massacre.

Thursday marked the fifth anniversary of the complex homicide investigation and Edward “Jake” Wagner is now pleading guilty to eight counts of aggravated murder and other charges.

In exchange, prosecutors have dropped the possibility of a death penalty and Wagner has agreed to a sentence of eight life sentences without parole.

“Jake Wagner is pleading guilty to the Pike County Murders on the fifth anniversary. Proud of the BCI investigative team that doggedly worked this difficult case,” Attorney General Dave Yost said.

His three relatives, father, George “Billy” Wagner III; his mother, Angela Wagner and his older brother, George Wagner IV, are also charged with aggravated murder.

The State is also agreeing to dismiss the death penalty specifications against the other Wagner family members and Jake will testify against his mom, dad and brother at their trials.

Jake Wagner was the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, Hanna Mae Rhoden, 19.

Authorities have said the motive of the slayings stemmed in part over a custody dispute over a young daughter Jake Wagner and Hanna Rhoden had together.

Jake was also charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for having sexual contact with Hanna Mae Rhoden when she was 15 and he was 20 years old.

30 minutes from me.
They wanted custody of his daughter/their grandchild so planned an almost perfect murder of 8 ppl.
Execution style.
They got nailed by a Wal-Mart camera buying the supplies to make a homemade silencer/s.
8 ppl dead and they will never see that poor little girl again.
When insanity meets crazeee!
Travesty!

(edited because I text more than I should have.)
I never liked our Gov. Mike Dewine from the beginning of career up the political ladder...
How he handled this case as AG and his treatment of the Manring’s is why I wouldn’t trust anything he ever says EVER!
He’s a coward that moves whichever way the wind is blowing.
He doesn’t care about destroying ppl.
He approved a lot of underhanded tactics barking up the wrong tree for weeks.
Touchy sad subject.
