Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued Monday that some Latino people are black during an interview about how the pandemic is impacting the Latino community.
“I always say Latinos are black. We are Afro-Latina and we — we run an entire racial spectrum,” she said during an interview on Telemundo. Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Democrat, is running for re-election after beating former New York Rep. Joe Crowley in 2018.

Ocasio-Cortez went on to suggest that people should have discussions about the “African and indigenous roots from which we come and how that’s reflected in systems of power, wealth inequality and, frankly, our political system.”


She faces stiff competition this election year from former journalist Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, among other candidates. Caruso-Cabrera has raised about $2 million. Ocasio-Cortez tried throughout the interview Monday to create the perception that black people and Latinos in the United States face similar struggles.

“African-Americans have some of the highest mortality rates in the country due to COVID, but in terms of our — our Latino community here in the United States, we are bearing some of the largest economic brunts of COVID-19. We are experiencing the highest unemployment rates and job displacement due to the mass layoffs,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on minority communities. Coronavirus, or COVID-19, originated in Wuhan, China, before spreading globally to the United States, where it has reportedly killed more than 120,000.



Ocasio-Cortez has not replied to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment for clarification.

Over the years, people of all colors seem to be racist. Looking past a person’s color in my view will never happen. White, red, black, yellow, brown and any other colors in between all seem to end up being segregated into their own groups.

Not exactly. Even Spaniards overall have no small amount of nonEuropean genes, and most Latinos in the countries to the south of the U.S. have majority nonwhite genes, with aboriginal predominating for those most places.

Anyway, re immigrants (recent or prospective), this isn't complicated. If you're dark, you belong elsewhere. If you have trouble with standard English, and you're not provably ancestrally from the "us" side of the Hajnal line, you go back. If you have black hair, you get extra checking (and less if you're a natural blond/redhead).

One of the things I remember going to an upper middle class grade school was the lunchroom wars between brown and black kids as young as 2nd and 3rd grade. That hate is taught and it runs deep. That ain't gonna change just because sooper commie says something different.

Cortez is a useful idiot. And that commie red lipstick is cultural appropriation from white ladies. On her it looks as fake as her ideology.

I thought it was from street whores trying desperately to get noticed by potential customers ("notice my body parts that could love you long time"?). This is something that goes back to at least the Babylonians AFAIK.

some Latinos are of European descent. . Most are not. anyone who virtue signals that the indigenous people of central and South America are white has issues. Especially when the same people make sure we all know that the indigenous people of most America are not white.

Please have some consistency.

I am aware of the blacks, orientals and various "other" ethnic groups who ARE heritage Americans. We run the gamut and ALL are part of the melting pot we were created to be.

the problem used to be that blacks were disadvantaged because they were the progeny of slaves.
No just any slaves. Very specifically, they were the offspring of slaves of the United States.
And then it was all blacks
and then it was anyone who was non white
and now it is also white people who are considered to be part of a group of almost browns - Latinos and Muslims.
But if you are white and the offspring of white slaves - **** off

By your logic because I have naturally dark, almost black hair, I need "extra checking"? My half Scott, quarter English, quarter French that has a sprinkle of Iberian peninsula isnt white enough?

Damn, I've lived 47 years and didn't know I wasn't white enough.

And whom pray tell, is going to be doing this "checking"?

consistency?
first they tell us that the white man came to the Americas and killed off all the native Americans.
and then they tells us the people of South America are all Latinos and are native Americans
how is that consistent. Which is it.?

South America is home to
400 million people, of which
180 million is composed of Whites with several different European extractions and other lineages - not mixed.
124 million Castizo, Mestizo or Caboclo people (citizens whose DNA is mostly European spanning from 65 to 90% European genes with considerable Indigenous admixture) - mixed
27 million people with pure Indigenous extraction, mostly found in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile and parts of Argentina

27 million pure indigenous people out of 400 million is less than 7% of the population
124 million of mestizo is 31%
180 million white is 45%
Most of the Latinos you see are classified as White in their own country and are by DNA of European descent.

Most of the brown latinos are brown because of their Iberian Peninsula DNA
- which for the 700 years leading up to 1492 was a Muslim Caliphate
They are not "native american"

and that is science
I have my DNA test. I am 12% native american. My family tree comes from Zapateca Mexico. I am one of those mestizos.
I have no Iberian DNA and am white. And the older I get the whiter I am.
But I would bet money I am more brown than AOC.

Snort. Baby, someone needs to check both of us. I’m Italian and pretty much keep dark tan going through the year. I colored my hair today and look like , well, a Latina street walker. Or Elvis has come back in from outer space.

But hey, whatever I want to pass for is up in the air right now. At least until I strip this off my head. Then, I can pass as any other “thing” if I put some product in my hair and it out. Simple. People see what they want to see. Or what you tell them to see. Pretty pitiful.
