The NYPD is set to start rolling out new technology that’ll scan straphangers for firearms in subway stations amid a wave of underground violence, Mayor Eric Adams said Thursday.

Hizzoner showed off a freestanding scanner manufactured by Evolv, a weapons detection company, at the busy Fulton Transit Center in Lower Manhattan as he touted details of a soon-to-be-implemented pilot program.

“This is our Sputnik moment,” Adams said. “Like when Kennedy said we’re going to put a man on the moon … Let’s bring on the scanners.”

Every freedom loving person in NYC should start carrying 3 rolls of quarters in their pocket...

Oh forgot, if they loved freedom they'd force their RIGHT to adequate self-defense like most of the nation has done recently.

On a side note: Adams always sounds like he has a polska kielbasa in his jaw...

That would quickly wear out a pocket. I'm thinking more of wearing a holster filled with a few rolls of quarters.

Quarters aren’t magnetic. Polycarbonate knives aren’t either. Ceramic kitchen knives probably aren’t.
I would never suggest a weapon be carried until the residents forced the issue legally.

As stupid as NYC is I suspect a holster might cause some to pee down their leg and activate a swat team.
A set of "lineman's pliers" might stifle the system with little recourse against the carrier...

I don't see how they can legally expose anyone to any level of ionizing radiation, irrespective of how low it supposedly is, without their informed consent. Also, there is no low thresh-hold for absolute safety in ionizing radiation exposure.

Furthermore, I think this device opens a Fourth Amendment can of worms regarding unreasonable searches and seizures. Does anyone on this board believe that it is reasonable for a government truck and government personnel to - without a warrant - expose people to radiation and electronically examine the contents of their vehicles and persons?
