We had 1 deputy killed down in Boise last week, the first deputy ever killed in Ada County. Shot him right in the face as he walked up to the vehicle, he pulled over. Another deputy was involved in a crash en route to him. Boise swat team killed the suspect in a fire fight hrs later.

My fiancee was a corrections officer at a prison in NC and her son is a deputy there. This has hit LE hard in NC. I have a friend who recently retired from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in central FL. We worked many cases together. I will call him later and get the real info on what happened, he will know what went on by today for sure. Most of the guys in these task forces are local LE assigned to the Marshals or DEA depending on the purpose. I worked a lot with the DEA airport interdiction agents on big drug cases and the Fugitive Task Force to help catch my murder suspects who fled the state plus we went after murder suspects who came here from elsewhere. You have to request that they take the case through official channels so they don't just randomly go after someone with a warrant.

I do not go to Charlotte if I can help it. I went downtown last year for my birthday it has become creepy and very liberal. My Dh and I keep telling his cousin and wife to leave. There kids have moved and there is no reason to stay. I used to go often a few years ago but no more. I can totally see this event happening. To me it is not unusual it is expected.

Ambush? In my naive mind, I'm picuturing the indians standing at the top of the cliffs, firing at the wagon train, as the settlers attempt to navigate the pass. The indians had foreknowledge of the wagon train's movement and were ready to take them out. Is that what is implied here or has the definition of the word changed? If the former, there is a mole in the department. Part of the reason a warrant works is that the service is a surprise.
And may I add, until it affects THOSE IN POWER, it isn't a problem.

It is my understanding, maybe I should say "Impression" that the Marshals are man hunters, especially across state lines.
@Thinwater or others with knowledge can correct if that is wrong.
So the "Felony Flee to Elude" was the trigger for them. and I suspect he crossed state lines.
I'm just saying that is probably the reason the Marshalls were involved from the start.
And IMHO them knowing he was a fugitive (did he have one arm?) with a firearm, they should have been more careful, and think they were, but were still caught off guard. Maybe he was next door and saw them through the window type of situation.

Been on many high risk warrants, often we’d get a page (yeah, it was that long ago) and meet for a briefing and get the details.
Then we’d go execute the warrant. Usually mid level narcotics, or warrant deputies organized the deal and we were only brought in last minute so to speak…
Also, when it was a high risk person, the warrant was executed at an odd hour…like 3:00 am on a Tuesday morning…not a daylight or waking hour deal.
