EDUC Nuke attack projection: Your block likely doomed

This was one of the headlines on the WTOP newsradio website (Local Washington, DC metro area). I know I've seen a similar chart on TB before, but thought A) it's worth re-posting and B) what prompted this particular notice?

Nuke attack projection: Your block likely doomed

How would you fare during a nuclear war? It's a good scenario to anticipate, particularly for as attractive a target as the WTOP listening area.

I looked up family members in different parts of the country and most of them would be toast... horrible feeling!

AFAIK...it would be toast bordering on ashes.

Connecticut has several nuclear power plants, a mid level harbor facility in New Haven and the Naval Academy and submarine base at Groton / New London.

Without a high quality shelter and lots of advance warning (get away, maybe?) the odds of surviving a Soviet nuke attack here are slim at best.

If Colorado Springs was the target;

You're alive! ... but not for long.
The heat from the blast has caused head to toe second degree burns. You'll probably die within the coming weeks from radiation sickness

Maybe I should move a little closer to the nearest target. I'd rather be instantly vaporized and meet my maker I think...

Alive! but your lifespan suffered.
The heat from the blast has caused 1st degree burns. Cancer is just a matter of time for you.

According to the app we in Caulfield would be OK. Gotta love south central Missouri!

We're not going to get nuked. No need. The global elites have shown how they're going to take down the US. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.

anyone know what size nuclear warhead the russians and chinese most commonly plan on using?
No inside info, but from what I know the Russians have put MIRVs (Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicles) on their missiles, so you can assume a cluster of 50-100KT warheads. Most likely the smaller size (the smaller the bombs the more they can put on the missile) unless they're going after a hardened target, in which case we're talking one bomb of 1-5 MT. Don't know what the Chinese are doing.

All their calculations are based on no firestorms (unlikely) and airbursts, so little fallout. Terrorists/saboteurs would use ground bursts, with much long-lasting fallout downwind.

Thumb in cheek projection at best. The formula takes into account your distance from a major city and weapon yield and that is it. What it and doesn't take into effect is the prevailing winds and the downrange fallout risk from major targets such as the ICBM fields in N. Dakota, ect.

If they were smart they'd use a neutron bomb, why contaminate the resources here when they can just melt us and have the best of both worlds? If I was some satanic-crazed global dictator that's what I'd do. Use one nuke on a rathole like Chicago where traitors would be a good target (if they betrayed their own nation they can't be trusted with anything). Not sure they'd want the powerseat of deecee, though the satanic layout and symbolism would be an attractant to them. Hard telling.

I'd say: a few well placed big nukes, 3 maybe, then they'd plunk a neutron in all cities 10,000 and over if they have the resources to do so. Since 50% of our population lives within 50 miles of the borders all around, strategy would be relatively easy.

Never happen. If they wanted our resources, the last thing they'd want is to have to deal with 250 million rotting corpses.

You live in the middle of no where or are lucky. The planet isnt looking good though. Get ready for some great skiing in the incoming nuclear winter
I ran the Tsar Bomba 50MT simulation. Nothing to worry about here but neighbors and goblins, and oh yeah SURVIVING!

There's nothing anyone can or should do to prepare, no hope even if you do, why bother to make any preps, best to just hope you die. In fact its best to be in the ground zero zone!
This mindset concerns me.
Apparently the Russians (and probably the Chinese too) have mile upon mile of underground preps and accomodations for tens of thousands of their people. Funny that they aren't buying into this why bother philosophy. Why are we being encouraged to do so?

The way I have always looked at it is... if at some point 'they' see we will have no response, and could not fight back then the war is "winable" and will happen. Not so sure of that anymore. I like Dennis's take...

That web page is pretty hokey in my book. The targets make little sense. Down town St. Louis for instance... Springfield, MO?

That problem would resolve itself in a few months.

Methinks you underestimate the magnitude of the problem. And if you think that animals would eat the carcasses, bear in mind that a neutron bomb(s) would also decimate animal life. This ain't the SyFy channel, and radiological devices don't just kill humans....

I agree there would be a huge clean up. That's alot of people. I also hate to be indelicate but nature takes care of these things and vultures are not always needed.
Even if the corpses were instantly petrified for all of eternity, the Chinese would just enlist some slave labor to clean up. The treasure in land and resources in North America would far, far outweigh any costs to them.

That site is total nonsense, and nuclear winter was discredited 30 years ago
Yes. So why are their governments preparing and ours seemingly are not? There are rumors about underground cities and tons of supplies going here and there, but nothing on enough of a scale to save the population at large. The rumors are that there are preparations being made for TPTB but not for the masses. I don't know for certain, sure seems that way though.

Neutron warheads still have a pretty fair blast. Its just that the radiation is greatly enhanced. Their original development was to be able to destroy tank divisions and other heavily shielded military assets.

By the way here's my projection.

You're dead!
Congratulations! You never saw it coming. Consider yourself lucky that there was no suffering. Not even the cockroaches survived.

The best advice I can give you is to google the book "Nuclear War Survival Skills" written by the man who was the lead evaluator of nuclear weapons effects for the US.gov for many years. It's available free online.

Never mind. Here's the link:

Why nuke us when things would be equally contaminated for them? Soil ruined for crop production? What they want is our resources without our people. But they do probably still want enough slaves to do their bidding, so not all would be eliminated. But if our land has been pledged as collateral for the loans, then its just a simple takeover. Move our population into the camps and move theirs into our houses. What say you?

All they need to produce is a nation-wide flu, followed by a wicked EMP. Then wait.

Cities would be death traps, people killing each other for resources, and the flu would wipe out millions more.

Either that or release the smallpox virus that has been kept alive in the labs, to which vaccinations stopped around 1970. Then anyone under 40 is at primary risk, which covers the majority of our military and strong youth.

Do any of that and wait a year, then just roll on in and plant the flag.

On the 50 megaton, I got the: Alive! but do you want to be? You live in the middle of no where or are lucky. The planet isnt looking good though. Get ready for some great skiing in the incoming nuclear winter.

I just watched a really weird movie - "Melancholia" about another planet colliding with ours. The simulation said I would be toast if the meteor hit. At least the planet Melancholia was beautiful as it moved in, but apparently I would be toast before I was even aware of it.

Wheat or Tare, which are you?
Just for the heck of it, Google George Washington's vision of America at her end...

And then Google A. A. Allan's vision of what befalls America in the last days...

If the visions are genuine, then nobody gets any of America's natural resources, ever...

Forever...

IIRC LA Times reported on a study in the last 18 months that basically said a nuke blast was more survivable than people think. Although it would take some forethought with preps and not directly in your lap.
