Petite Tudor-style house turned into a caravan in stunning remake by Portland-based company
Tiny property features wood beams and exposed brickwork just like mansions from 14th Century

Designers in Portland, Oregon have created a mobile home in the style of a Tudor mansion for a woman who dreamed of a Renaissance-inspired vehicle to take trips to the California coast in.

The jaw-dropping tiny house comes with a bedroom and modern appliances that measures just 24 feet long.

'She wanted it to look and feel like you were back in time whenever you laid eyes on it,' explained custom tiny house designers Tiny Heirloom.

'The exterior of the owner's house was very important to her. So together, we drew inspiration from many different architecture but decided Tudor was the best fit.

'It's such a unique style but it really finished off the design quite perfectly.'

At 24 ft-long, 8.6 ft-wide, is 13.6 ft tall, the tiny Tudor house on wheels has all the look and feel of a 14th Century-style mansion.

The property facade features imitation wood beams and exposed brickwork akin to the British homes from yesteryear.

An ornate wooden door bears an ironwork knocker in the shape of a fearsome dragon.

The compact area, a floorspace of 220 sq ft, has a living room has space for one armchair, a wooden table, shelving and a mosaic tile fireplace.

Absolutely gorgeous. And I probably could build a wonderful, simpler (but still with quality materials) NON-movable house with 5x the square footage for the same price.

Yes, this wouldn't come cheap in any way but it is beautiful :)

It is beautiful, but with room in the living room for one chair and an ottoman, having guests would be rather awkward and uncomfortable. It would keep guests from staying too long. lol

I wonder what the financing is like on these types of homes......they would come under RV type loans I would think, as a mortgage would not apply as there is no land involved.

There would be depreciation involved and the interest rate would be much higher than an ordinary house.

They could be picked up and taken anywhere, so a local bank/company would not be inclined to take a big risk in lending.

Am I correct in thinking this way?

It may have no property or land taxes due to the fact it's on a trailer frame, but you still have to park it on a piece of land somewhere. Whether it's your property or someone else's, there will still be a cost.

Your land, yes, but it probably is not an “improvement” attached to the land, no foundation. If you have water, power, sewer on site, maybe another story. If you are a visitor on a friend’s land, no increase on her taxes. If nothing else, there are costs at trailer-RV parks. No perfect answers, but it is still great if it’s your lifestyle.

It is beautiful but leave one dirty dish on the counter and the whole kitchen is messed up. I could prpbably handle living in one if I had a huge screened in sun porch on the back.

It sure has possibilities for me, I could park it on daughters new homestead out in the woods and just enjoy my upcoming grand daughter.

Heck a family could build 5 of em and put all on the same septic and water and power and have low property theft / taxes I mean.

Times are changing, and so long as the prog lefty swamp holds sway, working folk will have to become more and more creative, even those making pretty good money.

Dig a nice root cellar / shelter to keep preps in and ride out tornados, and come what else.

This episode was on yesterday, I think it was somewhere around $140k.
Pics look nice but I bet the quality isn't quite there when seen in person.
Fake brick, fake slate, etc...

I'd think you could buy the trailer for Three Grand. So that's the money that could go to permanent construction. Double in size, yes, maybe, depending on crawl space or if one were to just put it on rails/skids making it portable, but not easily moved. Cost of materials could be had for 25-35 grand. A good contractor could buiid that in a month or two's time based on his work staff. Two men, two months 20-30 Grand. People are making a good profit on the sale of such a home. Sure there's a lot of other minor expenses that will add up, but lots of room (margin) just the same. Though there's not much room (sq ft).

I would have a hard time living in one at this point. I need a little more room since I work at home a lot. A tiny house it sort of like a dorm room: it shrinks on you after awhile. I think they work best for people who are basically using them as a bedroom, while they spend the rest of their time either outside or at an office.

This too shall pass.
I actually like the Tiny Houses, and if it was just me, I could happily live in one. But it isn't just me, so we have a small, elderly farmhouse to renovate -- and I plan to use ideas from the Tiny House movement to make it as functional as possible. They have some really good ideas for storage and multi-functional spaces and pieces of furniture.

I can't imagine the poor aerodynamics it would have on the road. Probably best moved in the wee hours of the morning when you can take it slow and easy and when the wind is at an ebb.

Not just that, it's totally impractical!!

There are travel trailers with MUCH more usable room, storage AND comfort other than a single chair.

Bottom line is after all the "oooos and ahhhhs" runs its course, it is what it is. A totally impractical space with no space and that gold tub will just become, "a tub."

I hope, if she ever decides to tow it, that she pays close attention to the height of underpasses. Some roads under older bridges are real close to the height of this trailer.
