PRYR RQST Not The Thanksgiving We Planned - UPDATE, post 61

Thanksgiving hasn't gone anywhere near as planned. I have been gradually feeling pretty short of breath lately and Sunday, we had a broken pipe start squirting water into our bathroom, running under our newly installed vinyl plank floor into the closet. I tried to find the water cut off but no luck. While trying to find the cutoff I had to stop a bunch of times to try and catch my breath (diagnosed with COPD a few years ago, but this was much worse than usual). We got it shut off by an emergency plumber and had a crew in Monday to make repairs. I was getting short of breath frequently and it continued into Tuesday. My wife got me to an emergency care clinic and I was diagnosed with early stage pneumonia. The doc put me on some heavy antibiotics and a breathing treatment regime. Thank you, Sweetie for taking such good care of me. Our Thanksgiving dinner, needless to say has been delayed. I'm feeling quite a bit better now, but have a ways to go.

Prayers for a full recovery. Middle lobe pneumonia is rife throughout the Midwest. Hard to dx w/o a chest x-ray, even harder to get rid of. Take it easy.

Thank you for posting this. I’m still feeling mighty sad about missing my trip to Philadelphia (due to bronchitis). This was a good reminder as to why I needed to stay home.

As to the original post, I am learning that the challenges of aging are understated by the world.

Glad to hear that you’re improving. And so glad to hear that you have a loving and supportive spouse.

Adding our prayers, too! DH had it twice when he was much younger and in his 30s. Even then it took a LOT out of him. Allow yourself time to recover, keep up your nutrition, and don't overdue it. Seriously. It takes time to recover fully.

If you haven't had the pneumonia vax, you might want to consider it. This is somewhat controversial, I know. DH was able to get it back then even in his 30s, because he'd had it twice within a few years and as a LEO was working crazy hours and often not around the healthiest people. He hasn't had pneumonia since, and actually rarely gets any respiratory virus. If one starts, he kicks it right back.

Having said all that, I had the first pneumonia vax and had no problems. The second one a few years ago really kicked me in the butt, and I got shingles within a few days...no more vaxes for me!

Mom has COPD from second hand smoke. It is no fun but like you, she puts everything at the foot of that load ... and sometimes it isn't. I'm so glad your wife convinced you to medical attention.
