I have a fancy smancy S-Class Benz that LITERALLY hasn't driven out of the driveway since last May (2019) when I got my new truck.

I LOVE MY TRUCK and no one will be taking it from me :flngl:

Mercedes makes a pickup truck, admittedly they don't make it they just put a expensive dress on a Nissan Navara but still its a Mercedes badge on a truck

Hell you don't need a big truck to hit a pedestrian!! That's no challenge. What, with so many brain dead cellphone zombies walking around glued to their tiny handheld screens you have to go out of your way NOT to hit them!!

And the way people today drive. Yesterday DW and I went on a supply run down the mountain in our 25 year old F150 and almost got bingo'ed buy some posh jerk in a new Porsche screaming up our narrow two lane mountain road who zipped around a slower work pickup ON A BLIND CURVE and barely missed a nose to nose confrontation with our pickup. We would have been hurt....he would have been DEAD and under us.

I think I'll keep my Truck thank you very much, if for nothing else self defense. Ours is a working mountain truck that hauls firewood, bricks, blocks, compost, logs, lumber, trash, anything else we need it for and it tows our travel trailer and hauls our two 12 foot kayaks. Sorry but you can't do that in a Prius. We were thinking of up grading to a newer truck as we need four wheel drive up here on the mountain in winter....but Good Lord the prices of those newer ones! OUCH!! As much as I paid for my first house!!

Is this the same guy that was terrified by shooting an AR?

It felt to me like a bazooka — and sounded like a cannon.
One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.
But mostly, I was just terrified.

Not in my hands. I've shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).
The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

Jeez, what a wimp! I don't like ARs because they feel like a kid's toy in my big hands. And he was scared of that???

Lady pickup owner since 1973. The older I get, the bigger my trucks get. They are my Happy Place.

You can't go through life hauling lumber, hay, feed, boats, stock trailers, campers, farm wagons, and pulling the hay rake when the tractor is busy, with a Prius. Sissy-boy can Kiss my Grits.

Yes, I can back a boat trailer to the ramp or reverse 1/2 mile out of a dead-end fire road with a horse trailer better than any of the boys.

I’ve had a trucks for a long time never owned a car bought my wives (yea that’s plural) a few cars. Have four trailers you aren’t pulling with a car, these people want your guns, now they want your truck as I’ve probably said before they can kiss my A**. Oh don‘t forget they want us Dead.

I like trucks
I WANT a truck
I have always WANTED a truck
But I am an INTJ, for the life of me, no matter how I crunch the numbers,
the price associated with one does not make a lick of sense.
The price only makes sense, in a business case where the open box cargo capacity is used in the production of income.
And the short bed pickup is even more difficult to justify - won't fit a 4X8 sheet of plywood
If UHaul had a frequent flyer program, I would qualify. Twenty bucks plus miles for a day is a butt load cheaper than a $70K new truck.

I only say this because I had this conversation today. I don't think they should be banned.

If you want to drive down the highway throwing your money out the damn window, you have every right to.
And it is good for the economy which is good for me.
I'm an INTJ too. A nice, big truck is a GREAT insulator from the crazies "out there" in the world. Haha!

As an INTJ, I take immense joy in crumbling the salesperson's little world when I buy or order a brand new truck. (What I have done for the last 4-5 trucks I've owned.) I pay what I want to pay, (what I think is fair) and get what I want. Car dealers got nuthin' on a determined INTJ. After I sign, they want to weep. :lkick:

Yes, that‘s a snip from a real article (posted hear a year or two ago.) That “man” must be an absolute pussy. There is essentially no recoil on an AR15.

My first long gun was an 1888 German/Turkish Mauser in 8mm (bought it for $25 at a Big 5 store). Now after a day on the range your shoulder would be a little sore. Not bad, lots of fun still. Once in the military I couldn't believe how wimpy the recoil from the M-16's were, glorified pea shooters. The first time I hip fired an M-60 machine gun I thought "Hell! Doesn't kick any worse than my old Mauser". So I moved it up and shot it on full auto from the shoulder. LOTS of FUN and stayed totally on target. The Marines around me on the range were like "HOLY CRAP DOC IS A STUD!!" No big deal. Just lean into it and fire short bursts, easy to stay on target. Humping it sucked, especially if you had a bunch of ammo.

People today are such wimps!!

I have had a salesperson say to me "ARE YOU A JEW!!!"
. . . and then I got another 10%

DEPLORABLE ME
I bought my first pickup in 1972, a 67 Chevy 3/4 ton.

It didn't have AC.
It didn't have power steering.
It didn't have power brakes.
It had a stick shift with a granny gear.

I'm female. That truck took me from California to Montana, Montana to Ohio. Ohio to Montana and back. And from Ohio back to California. Over the course of 4 years. All but the first leg, I was pulling a horse trailer. Alone.

I remember late at night once bleary eyed and starving I dragged myself into a truck stop for a meal....I sat at the counter. A gum snapping waitress came over and said "you hafta move honey, this counter's for truck drivers only". I barely glanced up as I said, "yeah, well I'm a trucker". She served me.

When I got done and paid, several of the truckers followed me out to see what I was driving. They were amused and also in agreement that alone, going across country in a pickup with a horse, trailer, dog, and cat, that I "qualified" to sit with them, lol...
Back then, truckers were American "knights of the road" for the most part...I was never afraid traveling, twice when I got a flat tire a trucker stopped and insisted on changing it for me, although I could do so...

I had that truck until 1989. Got another. Still have a 3/4 ton truck sitting outside. It's got over 1/2 million hard miles and needs something I'm not going to pay for. So for the past couple years we've driven a Tahoe, and pulled a flat bed trailer when we need to haul anything.

So as a woman, I drove pickup trucks from 1972 to 2018...46 years. For me, pickup trucks were never "optional".

But I did like the AC and power everything as I got older (grins).

Shrug. Many people around here live on badly rutted dirt roads. Ranchers that use BLM (Bureau of Land Mgt.) land, have to deal with AMAZING ruts, and I understand it, you are not allowed to improve the road. (Doesn't make sense to me, since they seem to have wells out there.) High clearance is a must. Four wheel drive in the high elevation snowy pastures helps too.

Anyway, plenty of industry, maintenance and farming that isn't going to happen if the pick-up trucks disappear. Urban people never seem to think that far ahead.

The person I live with has an old full size truck. He is buying a much newer big truck to haul the new 16' utility trailer back from the dealer.

Sounds like me.. My first vehicle after turning 16 was a pickup. An old '63 chevy, no air, no radio, 4 speed. Pulled my horse trailer...a little 1 horse trailer. Had a camper shell on it.

Trucks ever since...jeeps for cars. I've pulled everything from little travel trailers to boats, to a 40' Montana 5th wheel, to my horse trailer with living quarters. For the last 3 and half years I have pulled it alone since my DH died.

Pulled back and fourth to Colorado...camped alone, ridden alone. Hauled all over the middle of the country to do mounted shooting..alone.

I pity the man that is such a pussy they can't drive something bigger than a little bitty car.

Of course I also drive a school bus, and shuttle buses in national parks...

I can teach anyone how to back up a trailer in 5 seconds. And I don't even have to be present to do it. (I was top of my class at CDL school in 1992)

My dad tells a similar story about the BAR when training for desert warfare, wrapped his arm in the sling and put a full mag load on target full auto...As a reward for his marksmanship he got to hump that all over the Mojave desert.

NinnyMan would have a heart attack if he stood in front of my 2004 F-250 with the 6-inch lift kit! And, yes I bought it that way. Girls like trucks, big trucks, too - I have several female friends who drive ones just as big as mine.

No, you can't have my truck - mine, all mine! At least if somebody hits me, they'll know they've really hit something, damage to mine will be minimal, theirs probably totaled.

Need to reply to this thread. I have driven pickups all my life and love them.
However when driving the newer low profile cars I look in the rear vision mirror and all I see is a front grill and bumper, I know if the truck hits me it will crawl over the back of my car and crush everybody. I object to lift kits and oversize tires for this reason. They have their value and place but not on an interstate highway, or in town traffic driven carelessly.

Okay....Beat me up everybody but not fatally, I'm supporting 4 persons, 3 big dogs, and a small cat.

So could any commercial truck.
Low profile car? Your choices, your lives.....

Your choice doesn't need to impact another person's choice. See something "uncomfortable" in the rear view mirror? Change lanes.

OldMan

Candy’s dandy, but a back rub is quicker.
So the soy boy weenie was afraid of the big bad chrome grille. The idiot doesn’t realize these truck grilles are PLASTIC and getting hit by said grille would cause more damage to the grille than to him.

Of course the remaining 6000 lbs of truck would squash him like a bug.

I live in the mountains and have a long private road to drive up. Often have to chain up 4 tires on that old 98 Ford 3/4 ton truck and the only time it has failed to get me there is when the snow gets to deep. Couldn't live were I do if I didn't have that truck. I don't want to live any place else, so, I will keep driving a truck. Wussy boys need to stay in the city!

There's actually a kinda funny story behind mine - I went with a friend to a Hail Sale at one of the local dealerships after they got pounded pretty good. I had an F-150 with a "supposed" V8 that was a gutless wonder - had to floor it to get up Genesee (I-70) and was still in the slow lane.

So, since mine had about 50K miles on it I was kind of looking, but not really. Asked the sales guy what he had in a 250, long bed (because I do haul stuff) and he said they only one they had was the one I ended up with - so, had to replace the windshield and it has hail damage, but what the heck - I got it for 50% less than list price - so call it 20K.

But, as I get older I can't take the beating anymore so I bought a friends SUV last year when we put her in assisted living. Now I'm really spoiled and I do watch out for the big guys.

I've seen a few around here that had 12 or 24 inch lift kits that you need a ladder to get in and out of - not for this old lady.
