CORONA No more coffee

Ah...it pays to prep. When I get below twelve cans of coffee I go and pick up a few more. If I was married I would double that. Beer however, doesn't store that well. There are different field expedient coffee and tea substitutes you can use and some are actually good for you but don't taste all that great. That is kind of like toilet paper substitutes where you only go there if you have to.

there were certain things that we made sure we were getting immediately upon hearing the what was going on when this things started.

coffee was one of them.
Got my extra coffee yesterday, along with all the pet feed I needed, plus 50# of chick feed. The babes are going into the outdoor pen tomorrow, as they are now fully feathered.

Took ALL my will power not to buy more.

As soon as we were in lockdown we went on half rations of coffee. Only make one pot a day now.

The principal of use one, buy 2, until you're out of room and then use one, buy one, works for coffee too. (2 is 1, 1 is none)

Until of course you get into this type of situation, then we are using one, and using one. Boy is our grocery bill going to be high when this is over.

Well on a bit of a lighter note, we are down to the last pound of coffee and quart of cream. So I will now be drinking tea so my wife can have the rest. Oh and I had my last beer last night.
You cant go to the store?? I have a couple of cans of Folgers put back plus 20# of green coffee beans if I have to use them. Coffee will be the last thing to go around this house. I also use a single serve coffee maker, not a Kerig but a cheaper model that way I don't waste too much.

We are locked down. Not running out to the store for just one or two things. I have a ton of tea and a half case of bourbon so I am good. NOw when she runs out of coffee and cream we may have to break down and go either that or I will have to live in the chicken coop

Tidbit of junk knowledge.

Yaupon has quite a bit of caffeine in it...with some side effects.

  1. a holly of the southern US. Sometimes dried and brewed as a tea, its bitter leaves contain caffeine and have emetic properties.

There are even companies making yaupon tea.

Just a tip. I found buying two cases of beer and carrying one in front of you and one behind you walking to the checkout enforces social distancing.

My favorite ground coffee for use in a drip coffee maker. It is available from Aldi and is made in Germany. My parents would approve of this. It's the real deal.

It comes vacuum sealed in a solid mylar "brick" that weighs 17 ounces/500 grams. It stores -very- well and is a super fine grind, almost like espresso. It is a rather dark roast and is very hearty and aromatic.

Last year SuperOne Foods had a big sale on coffee. It was from New Zealand and 1.79 a lb. After tried it out a lb and tasting it....It was Awesome I bought 97 lbs. of it. We put each one in vacuum sealer and stored for just such a time as this. I don't think I will be running out any time soon.

I've been looking for the top to my popcorn popper and ran across another can of coffee, I say other because that's the second can I've found. I already had a years worth in my pantry. Running out of coffee would be difficult for me, I drink a pot of it every day. DH on the other hand drinks maybe a cup, but he is running low on soda and that's going to be a problem for him.
