Security experts warn that a new virus strain has the ability to resurrect itself if it is not totally deleted from infected computers.

The BBC reports that the variant of the Sober virus has another sinister trick. It can create fake notices that infected attachments to e-mails have been scanned for viruses.

Like other viruses, Sober I can take over computers, using them to send out endless copies of itself. But it also inserts two small files into the computer's memory, and, if either one is left in place, the other can recreate the missing one.

Experts say that computer users should be wary of all e-mails with unsolicited attachments.

Sober-I infects machines running Windows 2000, 95, 98, Me, NT, XP and Windows Server 2003.

The first Sober virus appeared last year and was most commonly found in Germany.
