Obama will name Ron Klain Ebola Czar

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama will appoint Ron Klain his "Ebola czar," knowledgeable sources tell CNN.

The president on Thursday signaled his openness to the idea to have one individual coordinating the entire federal response to any threat of an outbreak in the United States.

"It may make sense for us to have one person ... so that after this initial surge of activity, we can have a more regular process just to make sure that we're crossing all the T's and dotting all the I's going forward," Obama said.

The administration has been criticized for its response to the incidents of Ebola in the United States, in terms of how prepared hospitals have been for potential Ebola patients and also how prepared healthcare workers were in terms of their personal protective gear. Some lawmakers have called for a travel ban on individuals coming from West Africa where the outbreak is most serious but the administration has so far not embraced that idea.

Klain is highly regarded at the White House as a good manager with excellent relationships both in the administration and on Capitol Hill. His supervision of the allocation of funds in the stimulus act -- at the time and incredible and complicated government undertaking -- is respected in Washington. He does not have any extensive background in health care but the job is regarded as a managerial challenge.

A former chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden and also to then-Vice President Al Gore, Klain is currently President of Case Holdings and General Counsel of Revolution, an investment group. He has clerked for the U.S. Supreme Court and headed up Gore's effort during the 2000 Florida recount. He could not be reached for comment on Friday.

This should fix it and calm the panic:

  • *OBAMA SAID TO APPOINT RON KLAIN AS EBOLA CZAR, CNN TWEETS
Forget medical experience, what the USA needs to conbat the worst Ebola pandemic
ever is "an American lawyer and political operative best known for serving
as Chief of Staff to two Vice Presidents - Al Gore (1995–1999) and Joseph
Biden (2009–2011)."
Gotta wonder how Tom Frieden feels about this...

Via Wikipedia,
Ronald A. "Ron" Klain is an American lawyer and political operative best
known for serving as Chief of Staff to two Vice Presidents - Al Gore
(1995–1999) and Joseph Biden (2009–2011)
.
He is an influential Democratic
Party insider. Earlier in his career, he was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice
Byron White during the Court's 1987 and 1988 Terms and worked on Capitol Hill,
where he was Chief Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee during the Clarence
Thomas Supreme Court nomination. He was portrayed by Kevin Spacey in the HBO
film Recount depicting the tumult of the 2000 presidential election.

Early life
Klain was born on August 8, 1961 in Indianapolis and grew up in a Jewish home. He
graduated from North Central High School[4] in 1979 and was on the school's Brain
Game team, which finished as season runner-up.[citation needed] He graduated
summa *** laude from Georgetown University in 1983. In 1987, he graduated
magna *** laude from Harvard Law School,[4] where he won the Sears Prize for the
highest grade point average in 1984-85 and was an editor of the Harvard Law
Review.

Career

Capitol Hill career

Klain's early experience on Capitol Hill included serving as Legislative Director for
U.S. Representative Ed Markey. From 1989 to 1992, he served as Chief Counsel to
the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, overseeing the legal staff's work on
matters of constitutional law, criminal law, antitrust law, and Supreme Court
nominations. In 1995, Senator Tom Daschle appointed him the Staff Director of the
Senate Democratic Leadership Committee.

Clinton administration
Klain joined the Clinton-Gore campaign in 1992. He ultimately was involved in both
of Bill Clinton's campaigns, oversaw Clinton's judicial nominations, and was General
Counsel to Al Gore's recount committee in the 2000 election aftermath. Some
published reports have given him credit for Clinton's "100,000 cops" proposal during
the 1992 campaign; at a minimum, he worked closely with Clinton aide Bruce Reed
in formulating it. In the White House, he was Associate Counsel to the President,
directing judicial selection efforts, and led the team that won confirmation of
Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Klain left the judicial
selection role in 1994 to become Chief of Staff and Counselor to Attorney General
Janet Reno. In 1995
, he became Assistant to the President, and Chief of Staff and
Counselor to Al Gore.

Gore campaign
During Klain's tenure as Gore's Chief of Staff, Gore consolidated his position as the
likely Democratic nominee in 2000. Still, Klain was seen as too loyal to Clinton by
some longtime Gore advisors. Feuding broke out between Clinton and Gore loyalists
in the White House in 1999, and Klain was ousted by Gore campaign chairman Tony
Coelho in August of that year. In October 1999, he joined the Washington, D.C.
office of the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers. A year later, Klain returned to the Gore
campaign, once Coelho was replaced by William M. Daley. Daley hired Klain for a
senior position in the Gore campaign and then named him General Counsel
of Gore's Recount Committee.

Legal career
In 1994, Time named Klain one of the "50 most promising leaders in America" under
the age of 40. In 1999, Washingtonian magazine named him the top lawyer in
Washington under the age of 40, and the American Bar Association’s Barrister
magazine named him one of the top 20 young lawyers nationwide. The National Law
Journal named him one of its Lawyers of the Year for 2000.

Lobbying
Klain helped Fannie Mae overcome "regulatory issues".

2004-2008
During the 2004 Presidential campaign, Klain worked as an adviser to Wesley Clark
in the early primaries. Later, during the General Election, Klain was heavily involved
behind the scenes in John Kerry's campaign and is widely credited for his role in
preparing Senator Kerry for a strong performance in the debates against President
George W. Bush, which gave Kerry a significant boost in the polls.[6] He then acted
as an informal adviser to Evan Bayh, who is from Klain's home state of Indiana.
Klain has also commented on matters of law and policy on televised programs such
as the Today Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, Capital Report, NewsHour
with Jim Lehrer, and Crossfire.

In 2005, Klain left his partnership at O'Melveny & Myers to serve as Executive Vice
President and General Counsel of a new investment firm, Revolution LLC, launched
by AOL co-founder Steve Case.

Obama administration
On November 12, 2008, Roll Call announced that Klain had been chosen to serve as
Chief of Staff to Vice President Joe Biden, the same role he served for Gore. Klain
had worked with Biden previously, having served as counsel to the United States
Senate Committee on the Judiciary while Biden chaired that committee and assisted
Biden's speechwriting team during the 1988 presidential campaign.

Klain was mentioned as a possible replacement for White House Chief of Staff Rahm
Emanuel, but opted to leave the White House for a position in the private sector in
January 2011.

Klain apparently signed off on President Obama's support of a $535 million loan
guarantee for now-defunct solar-panel company Solyndra
. Despite concerns about
whether the company was viable, Klain approved an Obama visit, stating, "The
reality is that if POTUS visited 10 such places over the next 10 months, probably a
few will be belly-up by election day 2012."

I don't have time to look this up as I have an appointment with a client but if true, this is criminal - they need a medical doctor MD or someone with a P.h.d. in Public health either of which would work provided the person had some hands on training with managing epidemics and/or containment of highly contagious diseases. Person should also have a good public presentation, you want a Marcus Welby type (male or female) that can give out real information in a calm manner but not pull any punches either.

Personally I'd have chosen someone like Dr. Sanjay Gupta if he was willing to take a break from TV and I suspect he would, he seems highly civic minded but he also can be positively sword wielding with the truth at times; if he feels it is morally right to do some, it looks to me so far that he does. Probably not what the administration really wants right now (or the CDC for that matter)..

What happened to our Surgeon General? Should they be making statements and maybe put in charge of this thing?

Wow, get someone with Medical experience to handle a medical crisis, that's really thinking outside the box - NOT

Not sure we have a surgeon general and if we did he is already hiding deep in a bunker somewhere because HE would know this has gone pandemic level.

OR, they couldn't find anyone else stupid enough to take this job so they tapped a lawyer on the shoulder and said, here, you do this. And then the rest of them can run to THEIR bunkers to hide.

We currently only have an "acting" surgeon general: Acting Surgeon General, Rear Admiral (RADM) Boris D. Lushniak, M.D., M.P.H.

Apparently the real surgeon general appointment is held up because the Repubs won't support approval.

That deserves a big "LIKE" button!

A little thread drift here...

The cops in my family always kept a pair of pantyhose with them.

The reason being is they found these to be very effective to use with the 'spitters'.

They'd just stick the pantyhose over the offender's face and it'd keep the bio-hazard from flying all over the cops and their vehicles and didn't restrict the airways of the perps.

Uncle Lee (sheriff) was pretty smart I tell ya!

Except for handcuffing me to the fridge one Thanksgiving at grandma and grandpa's and 'forgetting the key'. Yeah right! "Oh here it is! Right in my pocket all along!" V

Rush has already ripped Ebama a new one on this appointment. He is a total political hack, proven liar and faithful servant of the leftist Democratic machine. He was in on the attempted high-tech lynching of Clarence Thomas. One disgusting political hit job after another. No medical credentials or knowledge about epidemics. Just the man to prevent the spread of this highly contagious disease.

Obama Plans to Let Ebola-infected Foreigners Into U.S. for Treatment

OCTOBER 17, 2014
Washington, DC – Judicial Watch has learned that the Obama administration is actively formulating plans to admit Ebola-infected non-U.S. citizens into the United States for treatment. Specifically, the goal of the administration is to bring Ebola patients into the United States for treatment within the first days of diagnosis.

It is unclear who would bear the high costs of transporting and treating non-citizen Ebola patients. The plans include special waivers of laws and regulations that ban the admission of non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola.

One source tells us that the Obama administration is keeping this plan secret from Congress. The source is concerned that the proposal is illegal; endangers the public health and welfare; and should require the approval of Congress.

No wonder O appointed a lawyer for Czar.

I am an intuitive when it comes to understanding the world. What this means is that I tend to "absorb" things by being immersed in impressions, and then from this comes a recognition of an underlying set of principles which seems to describe the underlying strutures in things as the play out on the surface.

I have not been terribly invested in the 'conspiracy' side of this discussion simply because one really can't know, in a definitive sense - by evidence, if the main driver is conspiracy by some kabal or simply stupidity, or maybe a combination of unpublished intentions gone wrong, then an attempt to CYA, etc. The disease, logistics and economics of the problem has taken most of my attention ... until now.

Just as all of you, I have been quite amazed at the seeming stupidity of the authorities, but have chalked it up to well excersized stupidity. Not so now. And here is why ...

The political people in charge of the various institutions which has been more or less in the lime light (CDC, Department of State, etc) have very clearly stated, REPEATEDLY, for MONTHS, that travel will not be restricted. They have also REPEATEDLY insisted that local and state entities practice Level 2 when they themselves insist on practicing Level 4 protections. Even NOW, the CDC insists it is right as rain with regard to this line of counsel, in spite of overwhelming evidence that they are ENTIRELY WRONG in that approach. Why? Some have asked if they are INTENTIONALLY SPREADING the disease. (importation of up to 50 case per week is probable)

I now believe (my intuition after reviewing and absorbing the swell of articles and private reporting on Ebola details) that we are seeing a cadre of political operatives being put into place to assure the spread of Ebola in the US and to 1) deflect people's attention, 2) silence discussion, 3) remove or confuse information, 4) continue to import infected Pts, 5) debilitate local and state authorities' ability to operate independently from the Federal, etc.

Frieden is a political diversion. He has been given his script. He will continue to spout none sense and obfuscate reality. His job is to run interference for the background operation that is being accomplished. Reporters will focus on HIM and will not focus on Obama. Now that an executive "CZAR" has been appointed we have a second level of diversion which can further tangle up anyone's efforts to "get to the bottom of this". IMO there will be more and more people this administration will appoint, and rearrange in order to keep the attention of the media AWAY from Obama and what is REALLY being done.

Recall that the "numbers" being reported are entirely a fiction, yet the media keeps reporting them as important. Once it became inconvenient, all the "supsected cases" were summarily wiped from the news feeds. Now we find, indirectly, that only what the CDC counts as positive tests, are counted. And we find that far more cases, by inference of physically present people who are counting things like ambulances, lab reports, etc are ACTUAL than being reported. Why? So that they can continue their background operation, which is to import as many infected people as possible before they have to close down that operation.

I posted on another thread that I felt the initial rationalization for this was to duplicate the work of FDR and the effects of Pearl Harbor to "engage the American public" in supporting a lot more material and personel to be sent to Africa, ie - essentially a "war against Ebola" - sounds familiar doesn't it??). This is a geopolitical thing. Zero can't allow himself to be seen as turning his back on Africa. Do you recall that on his first election there was significant reporting on how African people saw Zero as "their" President? That has been leveraged for 5-6 years now to keep Africa in the western sphere of influence. If the Zero is perceived by Africa to be cutting them off, then Africa will jump straight into China's arms, and that includes Nigeria's oil fields.

Now we have another "community organizer" (Frieden being the other) who has been put in charge of the US effort to "address the issue". Both of their "qualifications" as political operatives are astonishingly unqualified to deal with an issue such as Ebola. But looking at their qualifications for what they are, we can see what their REAL JOBS ARE.

I do believe that this was an effort on the part of the political elite in this country to get the US MORE involved in Africa, and in being perceived as "America the Good: Coming to Save the African Peoples". What a great story. I believe (at this time at least) that they did not believe that importing cases into the US would produce the same results that it has in Africa. In fact, Frieden has repeatedly stated "IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE" and I believe that he was articulating the thinking of the planners. I also believe that they were very deeply wrong in making that assumption, and that their little experiment has gone horribly wrong. They are fully aware of how badly it has gone wrong and they are absolutely unprepared to deal with the consequences.

One last thing. In the midst of such a fuster cluck where the national leadership has basicly poised itself and this nation on the brink of total disgrace and political self emolation, a capable enemy who has certain abilities to "help" the confusion by making their own special contribution of 'novel ingredients' which look very similar to the current problem, but in fact will multiply the confusion, disable toeir economic engine and even further disconfit the populous, ... may take advantage of this unique opportunity to their own benefit. "Pay back...", as they say, "...is a bitch."

Not in the least bit surprised.

The obom-ites elected a Prez who had no experience and no proven achievements

And he's has followed that example with every appointment he's made

But it is JTDS it’s the citizens who continue to pay the price for the left's anointed one’s central urge to punish and destroy this country

Only this time, instead of just money & our rights, it could very well be ours or our loved ones lives

So, we have an office for public health threat preparedness and response. And one of HHS’ eight assistant secretaries is the assistant secretary for preparedness and response, whose job it is to “lead the nation in preventing, responding to and recovering from the adverse health effects of public health emergencies and disasters, ranging from hurricanes to bioterrorism.”

In the video below, the woman who heads that office, Dr. Nicole Lurie, explains that the responsibilities of her office are “to help our country prepare for, respond to and recover from public health threats.” She says her major priority is to help the country prepare for emergencies and to “have the countermeasures—the medicines or vaccines that people might need to use in a public health emergency. So a large part of my office also is responsible for developing those countermeasures.”

This was posted on the 15th, on the thread that we already have an ebola czar. Dr. Lurie has a real (I assume) M.D., and a master's in Public Health. I would guess that combination of qualifications would unfit her to serve the present leader of the free world, so she needed to be replaced by a lawyer/politician/bureaucrat who knows how to play the right kind of ball.

OTOH, maybe the new ebola czar has spent most of his life preparing to save us from the potential pandemic. Who knows?
