The SUNplicity parabola
Le four solaire pliable SUNplicity dans une forêt de bambou

Easy living, efficient and compact it will open like a flower in 1 minute, without any tools, and will fold down just as easily.
Cooking
Empty, the pot will heat up to 230°C-446F within 10 minutes on average,
1 liter of water takes ½ an hour to boil.
The heat well distributed is perfect for tasty cooking.
There is no sticking at the bottom of the pot, no burning; this gives extra freedom to the cook.
Materials
The SUNplicty solar cooker is all metallic for longer lifespan.
Some of the aluminum comes from recycling. The SUNplicity is designed to be recycled.
The cooking is healthy and the carbon footprint exemplary.
One of our goals is to ban plastic.
The making
SUNplicity is proud of its local partenships who are all very involved.
SUNplicity aims for sustainable ethics, both for the environment, and for the people involved.
Learn about our partenerships here.
The SUNplicity pots
The purple pot, which can be painted black (barbeque paint), is the original SUNplicity pot. We could say that the solar cooker has been conceived with this very pot in mind. It is very light and can be fixed to the folded cooker for easy carrying. Alain Bivas recommends this pot for stews, soups and liquids, as well as to bake cakes, bread, and why not a lamb shank etc, etc…
The enameled steel pan is practical for pies, meat, fish, eggs… as its shape allows tilting to keep the pot level.
Alain Bivas recommends the use of a lid. This will increase the heat and enhences the flavor. This will also make very tender moist delicious cooking.
The glass lid gives you good view of what you are cooking. The metalic knob withstands the heat the best.
On facebook you will find photos, videos and comments on cooking with the SUNplicity Solar Cooker from anywhere around the planet.

I think within the next six months power problems will start.
I think you are spot on. I am building a solar system to run my freezers 24/7. I picked up 2KW of used solar panels, ordered an Outback Flexmax80 charge controller, two 1500 wat true sine wave inverters and now have to suffer the pain of buying enough batteries to hold enough power to run the inverters over night. I may have to shoot for one freezer at first, get it running then add more batteries as I can spare the cash.

When I hear "Solar Cooker", I always think of the scene in "The Men Who Stare at Goats"...

What?

The cone. Does it direct your
psychic powers or something?

No.

It cooks supper.
It's solar.

Utilizing the power of the universe.

No pollution,
totally renewable.

That's New Earth Army technology.

Pretty mind blowing, isn't it?

Hey T W, that looks good could you share some details?
72" fiberglass satellite dish. I covered it in polished stainless steel in the form of a case of surplus decorative license plate blanks that I found at the scrap yard.

I have made others with rolls of Mylar that work better, but when left outside the Mylar peels off and degrades.

I made a different type with Fresnel lenses from old style big screen TV sets.

Freeholder

This too shall pass.
I have a parabolic reflector for a solar cooker, just need to build the stand for it. The reason I haven't done so is because I have to figure out how to make it stable in high winds, yet still be portable. You might as well call one of these things a solar sail. Which is why I want to get one of the solar tube cookers -- they wouldn't be so prone to flying away in the wind.

Love it, but a little to pricy for my budget.
I think it is interesting.

But where did you find the prices?

I must have clicked everything, never could find the pricing.

I figure if the prices are that well hidden, must be pretty high .

Batterie$ are the money sinks. But if you can afford it, go lithium.

Wow that’s very interesting!
It really does start a fire as soon as you put the wood under it?
If you walked past the focal point, you would be on fire before you could get away from it. Fortunately, it has to point up toward the sun so it is hard to get at the focal point accidentally. My Fresnel lens cooker was the opposite, it focused down and would melt soda cans in a few seconds. I left it outside one day and as the sun moved so did the focus, until it pointed at one of its 2x4 wooden legs, set itself on fire and burned to the ground right there.

Obviously not a device for people who have trouble w/ details.

I'm sorry but I immediately thought "what a device to use fire as an assassination tool"

I may need help

Listed under each picture in the O P. I think 426 euros for the basic set up with the pots.

Battery technology has lagged behind the rest of the solar industry; it's too bad but hopefully there's an upcoming breakthrough which will allow a huge paradigm shift in costs of a complete system.

Which is about US$500, Exchange rate dependant & Alain does not mention shipping or where to buy etc. From a Commerce aspect, his site is lacking.

I emailed him & got a timely response w/ a name in TX. and sent an email looking for prices, availability, shipping options - the basics.

I really hate having to work to spend $$$ but its an interesting & useful looking product

I'll post what I find out

This system looks cool but it is too darned expensive. I really like the potential portability of it, though. We don't plan to bug out but there's always the possibility of having to, and I have considered that the Sun Oven just isn't as portable.

Just make your own. Use coroplast (Like political and Real estate signs are made from), then coat in Mylar. Total cost will be under $50 plus your own pot.

The email Alain provided is dead so, I asked him to respond to my original request directly.
I'll let you know how that goes.

Even thogh I think this is tres pricey, depending on some more info, it could still work in a MAG scenario so its worth following up I think.

Using segmented wedges of coroplast?
Yes, I made one abut the same as this with wedges cut of 22 ga AL on my CNC plasma cutter but it would not be cheap if not left over from another project. Coroplast is cheap, and free after an election if you go out and collect the signs. Mylar or foil is cheap. A can of spray glue is under $10

I just ordered a pair of these 5" ID (Approx) tubes to make a Go-sun style cooker. I can do the rest of the parts to make one for next to free with my 3d printer, plasma cutter, mill and lathe. I have a large amount of metal on hand. I will have under $100 each in 2 of them.
