It's movie time on TB2K again. Here are a variety of movies to help kick back from the real world if only for a few hours.
I'm putting each in a separate post. That should make it easier to comment, discuss, or like a specific choice.
If you watch or download a movie, please comment or like it to guide future selections.
IMDB/Amazon has made the movie posters hard, but I have them anyway. :)
Click the "movies" tag at top to see a list of previous movie threads.
The movie trailers are located in post #11.

Enjoy the Show!

The first movie is The Guns of Navarone. This 1961 WW2 adventure stars David Niven, Gregory Peck, and Anthony Quinn. This movie is based on the novel by Alistair Maclean.

Two powerful German guns control the seas past the Greek island of Navarone making the evacuation of endangered British troops on a neighboring island impossible. Air attack is useless so a team of six Allied and Greek soldiers is put ashore to meet up with partisans to try and destroy the guns.

The second movie is Punisher: War Zone. This 2008 crime drama stars Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, and Julie Benz. Don't think comic book with this one. They had a good budget and used it well. It's a personal favorite.

- Frank Castle, the Punisher, ruthlessly demolishes organized crime, but it starts an even bigger war.

Hell-bent on punishing the gangsters responsible for the death of his family and countless others, Frank Castle finds himself on a violent path of destruction, waging a one-man war against the despicable crime family led by a man known as Jigsaw.

I don't know how you find all these movies but I am sure glad you do.
Thank you.

Thanks, it's essentially spider searching based on people's favorites list at archive.org. Most of the time is not spent searching for specific titles.

Malta Story (1953) Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins, Anthony Steel, Muriel Pavlow - WWII Action
RT 1:39:08
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBOOwBQfsPg

Malta Story is a 1953 British war film, directed by Brian Desmond Hurst, which is based on the heroic air defence of Malta during the Siege of Malta in the Second World War.[1] The film uses real and unique footage of the locations at which the battles were fought and includes a love story between a RAF pilot and a Maltese woman, as well as the anticipated execution of her brother, caught as an Italian spy. The leading character of the pilot ("Peter Ross") is loosely based on Adrian Warburton; the character of the Maltese woman's brother ("Giuseppe Gonzar", aka "Ricardi") is based on Carmelo Borg Pisani, who was executed in 1942.

Plot: In 1942 Britain is trying hard to hold on to Malta while invasion seems imminent; Italians and Germans are regularly bombing the airfields and towns. The RAF fight to survive against the odds using the few fighter aircraft remaining on the island. Flight Lieutenant Peter Ross (Alec Guinness), an archaeologist in civilian life, is on his way to an RAF posting in Egypt but is stranded in Malta due to the air attacks. He is assigned to the RAF squadron there, being an experienced photo reconnaissance pilot.

Peter meets Maria (Muriel Pavlow), a young Maltese woman working in the RAF operations room. The two fall in love and spend a few romantic hours in the Neolithic temples of Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim on the island. In the meantime the situation at Malta becomes desperate. Every day civilians are buried under the rubble of air attacks, and famine threatens their survival, as relief convoys are easy prey to the numerous bombings. The island relies on the last few ships of a convoy for supplies.

Peter proposes marriage to Maria, although they realise that wartime is not favourable to lasting love affairs, as Maria's mother suggests; nevertheless, the young couple remain hopeful of the future. Giuseppe, Maria's brother (Nigel Stock) is arrested while trying to infiltrate the island from Italy, where he had been studying since before the war. He admits to being on a spying mission, which he tries to justify by saying he wants to save Malta from further destruction. Maria's mother lives a double family drama knowing that one of her children will almost certainly be executed, and the other is in a doomed love affair.

The RAF holds on, and, along with Royal Navy submarines, is eventually able to take the offensive, targeting enemy shipping on its way to Rommel in Libya. Many air raids take place either to defend the island with Spitfires or a number of attack aircraft, including Bristol Beaufighter fighter-bombers, Bristol Beaufort and Fairey Albacore torpedo bombers, which succeed in sinking Italian tankers and warships. There comes the moment when the most important enemy convoy is on its way to Libya under cover of poor visibility.

Peter's commanding officer (Jack Hawkins) needs desperately to locate this target and orders him to find it at any cost, realising that this will be virtually a suicide mission. Peter, flying in his Spitfire, finally finds it, but has to stay close to keep contact. He is attacked by six Messerschmitt Bf 109Fs. Peter stays calm, but cannot escape his fate; he is shot down and killed, while Maria in the operations room listens helplessly to his final radio transmissions. After Peter's radio transmissions fall silent, Maria picks up Peter's Spitfire Number A14 from the Operations Table.

Later the next day, Maria sits by the beach, thinking of her beloved Peter while still holding his Spitfire Number A14. In the end, a newspaper article notes that the attack was a success, as the Afrika Corps has lost the Second Battle of El Alamein (in part due to supply shortages) and thus their foothold in Africa.

Cast: Alec Guinness as Flight Lieutenant Peter Ross Jack Hawkins as Air Vice Marshal Frank Anthony Steel as Wing Commander Bartlett Muriel Pavlow as Maria Gonzar Renée Asherson as Joan Rivers Hugh Burden as Eden, Security Nigel Stock as Giuseppe Gonzar (aka Ricardi) Reginald Tate as Vice Admiral Payne Ralph Truman as Vice Admiral Willie Banks Flora Robson as Melita Gonzar, Maria's and Giuseppe's mother

He Walked by Night (1948) [Film Noir] [Thriller]
RT 1:18:53
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rBZ7Hoaf5o

On a Los Angeles street, Officer Hollis, a patrolman on his way home from work, stops a man he suspects of being a burglar and is shot and mortally wounded. The minor clues lead nowhere. Two police detectives, Sergeants Marty Brennan (Brady) and Chuck Jones (Cardwell), are assigned to catch the killer, Roy Morgan (Basehart), a brilliant mystery man with no known criminal past, who is hiding in a Hollywood bungalow and listening to police calls on his custom radio in an attempt to avoid capture. His only relationship is with his little dog.

Roy consigns burgled electronic equipment to Paul Reeves (Whit Bissell), and on his fifth sale is nearly caught when he shows up to collect on his property. Reeves tells police that the suspect is a mystery man named Roy Martin. The case crosses the paths of Brennan and Jones, who stake out Reeves' office to arrest and question Roy. He suspects a trap, however, and in a brief shootout shoots and paralyzes Jones. Jones wounds Roy, who performs surgery on himself to remove the bullet and avoid going to a hospital, where his gunshot wound would be reported to the police. With his knowledge of police procedures, Roy changes his modus operandi and becomes an armed robber. During one robbery he fires his semi-automatic pistol, and the police recover the ejected casing. Lee (Jack Webb), a forensics specialist, matches the ejector marks on the casing to those recovered in the killing of Officer Rawlins and the wounding of Sgt. Jones, connecting all three shootings to one suspect.

Captain Breen (Roy Roberts) uses this break to gather all of the witnesses to the robberies. They assist Lee in building a composite photo of the killer. Reeves then identifies Roy from the composite. However, Roy hides in Reeves' car and attempts to intimidate him into revealing details of the police investigation. He barely eludes a stakeout of Reeves' house. Because the police do not realize that Roy has inside knowledge of their work, the case goes nowhere. Breen takes Brennan off the case in an attempt to shake him up. Jones convinces his partner to stop viewing the case personally and to use his head.

Plodding, methodical follow-up by Brennan, using the composite photograph, results in information that Roy, whose actual name is Roy Morgan, worked for a local police department as a civilian radio dispatcher before being drafted into the Army. Brennan tracks him down through post office mail carriers and disguises himself as a milkman to get a close look at Morgan and his apartment.

The police surround and raid the apartment that night, but Morgan, forewarned by the barking of his dog, escapes through the attic and uses the Los Angeles sewer system as a means of escape. The film continues with a dragnet and chase through the sewers. Roy is finally cornered by the police in a passage blocked by the wheel of a police car. As the police shoot tear gas at Roy, he staggers and attempts to fire at them. He is then shot down and killed. The final scene is notable for its resemblance to the final scene in The Third Man in which Orson Welles is chased through the sewers of Vienna. No known connection between the films has been established.

---

Directed by Alfred L. Werker and Anthony Mann, produced by Bryan Foy and Robert Kane, story by Crane Wilbur, screenplay by John C. Higgins and Crane Wilbur, starring Richard Basehart as Roy Martin/Roy Morgan, Scott Brady as Sgt. Marty Brennan, Roy Roberts as Captain Breen, Whit Bissell as Paul Reeves an electronics dealer, James Cardwell as Sgt. Chuck Jones and Jack Webb as Lee.

Six hired hands on a drunken, playful spree accidentally kill an old man. Unforgiving letter-of-the-law marshal Burt Lancaster follows them home. Lancaster seeks the aid of local sheriff Robert Ryan, but Ryan and the local citizens try to divert Lancaster from his task because the killing was clearly an accident and because they are under the powerful sway of the boss of the hired hands, Lee J. Cobb. Lancaster tries to cut a deal with Cobb, but Cobb's hired hands, believing that it is impossible to reason with the fanatical Lancaster, goad him into a gunfight in which Lancaster kills the ranch foreman. Lancaster will pursue the fleeing felons to an absolute point of no return in which only blood and death can be the victors. Robert Duvall/Sheree North/Richard Jordan/John Hillerman co-star.

I cannot believe the sheer amount and sheer cinematic quality of this week's selections! I'm going to download all of them!

And thank you for the "gift" you sent me a night or two ago. The wife particularly liked it, mainly because she won't watch it with me. Waaayyy too violent for her. But a favorite of mine. I sincerely thank you for it.

You clearly put a LOT of effort into getting these movies for us. These movies are good for entertainment anytime; in a bug out situation these movies, downloaded would be a great comfort to scared, confused people.

You are definitely the TB2K minister of culture and enlightenment. Your TB2K family is most appreciative of your hard work!
