Well, here we go. Wonder if this will soon be seen in other states.

Montana to end extra unemployment pay due to worker shortage
Montana to end extra unemployment pay due to worker shortage
HELENA, Mont. - Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte announced Tuesday the state will end its participation next month in the federal unemployment program, as the state struggles with a worker shortage.

Beginning June 27, unemployed workers in the state will no longer receive $300 in extra weekly benefits, forgoing payments that were approved through Sept. 6.

Instead, the state will launch a new program to provide bonuses to unemployed workers who return to work.

"Montana is open for business again, but I hear from too many employers throughout our state who can’t find workers. Nearly every sector in our economy faces a labor shortage," Gianforte said in a statement, adding that the federal unemployment benefits are "doing more harm than good."

Under the new incentive program, workers currently receiving unemployment benefits can qualify for a one-time $1,200 bonus after they have completed four weeks in a new job. The governor approved $15 million in funding for the incentives from federal coronavirus relief dollars allocated to the state.

There are around 25,000 people currently claiming unemployment insurance in the state, according to the Montana Department of Labor. The department also estimates there are around 14,000 job openings in the state.

That’ll piss off the liberals in the state. Maybe some of them will move out.
I like our new governor so far.

The response from DC will reveal their intentions.

This might get interesting.

Now, for more states to follow suit.

I'm not sure how much of a political grenade it will be for red state governors?

Help Wanted signs all over the place here. I was talking to a Sam's Club employee and she told me can't find workers because unemployment is paying them more to stay at home. Heard the same thing by Rural King employees. Our closest Burger King has cut out the morning hours due to lack of help.

The solution should be if you are offered a job and turn it down you are disqualified from further unemployment benefits. If lower income people can make more watching tv at home than working they are going to do that and you really can’t blame them. Unemployment and all welfare benefits are supposed to be a temporary hand up and not a permanent handout.

Sounds like the businesses need to compete with the government for labor.
Time for the businesses to up the pay scale.
Why would anyone go to work when they can make more money not working?
I know, the businesses will have to raise prices to pay the higher wages.
Which means few sales ... which means fewer employees .... don't you love it when a communist central plan comes together.
Universal income here we come.

I was offered a job while in drive thru, does that count? It was a legit offer, he used to me my supervisor.

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…
I think that’s the right move as the economy is opening up and we seem to be short workers across the board due to LOM (lack of motivation), perhaps reducing some of that extra money will give more folks the incentive to go back to work.

The old rule used to be if you turned down a job offer then the unemployed stopped unless you could prove a really good reason like the job had no public transport access and you had no car.

I would be OK with going back to this on two conditions because I saw what happened in the UK when it wasn't there: the job must be a full-time job with a guaranteed 40 or more hours per week.

In the UK there was a crisis when way too many low-wage employers started "offering" what was called "Zero-Hours contracts" that required the employee to be on call and did not allow for multiple employers. So many people lost their benefits and ended up working 10 hours some weeks or even less but legally couldn't hold down another part-time job.

That was finally made illegal (the zero-hours contracts and not allowing for multiple jobs, which is what fast-food people usually did even 40 years ago to make ends meet during hard times).

The other would be the job offer has to actually match what the person is qualified to do. I lost my unemployment once (until I appealed) when a company came into town and made a bunch of people "job offers."

We showed up expecting to work in a factory or something but really it was an "audition" to teach "ballroom dancing." Out of 50 people one person was hired, the rest of us didn't qualify (or look the part).

But we lost food stamps and unemployment for a month until the appeals process went through.

So Job has to be full-time (or if part-time unemployment is only cut by a percentage) and the job has to be both real and realistically match the qualifications of the prospective employee.

Most healthy people can be trained to be waiters or work as shop assistants, but someone over 50 in bad health probably can't do that particular job though they might manage hotel night clerk or even restaurant host/hostess.

Like so many other things going on and people don't notice, paying people to stay at home and not work is to cause the economy to crash. Once the economy crashes, there will be no jobs available except for the few industries which did not shut down for the faux pandemic.

Most of the other industries and firms will have permanently closed and a majority of the population will be without any financial means whatsoever. Then people will realize the crisis has been engineered and they will be powerless to make any effort to salvage their lives. Boxcars and relief camps?

The illegal aliens will be offered work and exploited to no end because there will be no one to protest, nor advocate on the behalf of illegals. The native born citizens will be in no position to counter the next move the (conspiracists) will have planned and implemented in obscured "openness." Just my opinion and my speculative observations dealing with these "elitists" and their minions.

That WAS the rule until the last year or so.

I understand why that rule was suspended in the middle of the lockdown, but few places are still in lockdown.

Extra unemployment bennies should be directly be tied to an area’s lockdown status: No lockdown, no extra unemploymeny pay.

Red states are sucking hind tit anyways; all the money hidden in these "covid", "infrastructure" and "education" bills are just sending money to MaligNancy, Joe and da ho bankrupt blue state and city minions. And that's beside the money going overseas in those bills which somehow mysteriously finds it way back into Demon-rat coffers.

Well, the rest of the country is just catching on.

If Shinequa can get all HER expenses paid, feed the brood of illegitimate felons-in-training, entertain the baby daddies, and have enough left over for nails and a weave, why shouldn't the rest of the population give it a try?

Those with a job are getting pressured to take the jab. The social contract is irreparably broken.
Screw it.

I've gotten 2 letters telling me I can draw unemployment. (I have a job)
Interesting. Both hubby and I received letters telling us that our unemployment application was denied. Neither one of work outside the home but we were calling it retirement. AND neither one of us applied for unemployment. It was interesting to note that hubby was laid off March of 2020 from Walmart for lack of work. And I was laid off at the same time from Home Depot for the same reason. If you remember that was the beginning of the lock down and those were two place that were allowed to remain open.

I was laid off from a printing company, they were just looking to get rid of all the production folks, I drew unemployment for 9 months, then went to work for a life long friend, I'm only working 3 days a week, and loving it. I don't ever want to draw unemployment again, it made me feel bad, I know I shouldn't have felt that way but I did. I'm a working person.

The only businesses left standing will be the large crony corporations who are already onboard the woke train. The myriad of hard-to-police small businesses will be a thing of the past. Welcome to the new normal.

Economics 101. Do employers need to raise wage offers?

I won't go so far as to castigate folks for making the decision that makes the most economic sense, and getting paid to stay home and work on your own projects makes sense- - - but c'mon man, bout time yas turned off the spigots!
