The video from this is truly amazing. It shows a fountain of Lava, like the ones from Hawaii only this one shoots 900 FEET IN THE AIR. It shoots up that far, and also is at night so the optics are outstanding. Didn't see it anywhere else.

An Icelandic resident uploaded a stunning video on YouTube of a new volcanic eruption early Sunday morning.
YouTube "Sigfús Steindórsson" has been following a new fissure vent that opened a couple of weeks ago and is visible from Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland.
The latest development from the fissure was a "monster-size lava fountain, the biggest since the eruption started," said Steindórsson. They said the eruption occurred around midnight local time and was filmed around 0200 Sunday.

Twitter handle "the 3D Podcast" caught a similar view of the eruption early Sunday morning.

We've noted the Reykjanes Peninsula has been dormant for a number of years, and volcanic activity sprung back to life in March after tens of thousands of earthquakes were recorded.
Here's the current map of active volcanoes around the world.

There's no telling when volcanic activity in Iceland will simmer down.

but, what does it portend....
Probably 30 more years or so of lava flowing out of the fissures in this area, or that is how long most of the previous eruptions in this area have lasted, sometimes a bit longer and sometimes a bit shorter.

Nightwolf says it is perfectly likely they may have to move the Capitol city of Reykjavik if the old patterns return from hundreds of years ago. He said, "it is very hard to maintain life in a city if a fissure might open up anywhere and gasses may be escaping miles away from the eruptions themselves."

But Volcanoes are tricky and have their own timeframes, they originally thought this was a smallish eruption but the data suggests a much deeper magma pool than original thought and so far the way the fissures are acting, I suspect that is the case.

The eruptions could stop tomorrow or go on for 30 to 50 years in the local area.
