Personally, Raggedy, I’d rather be on horseback, with bow, spear or rifle, wandering the rugged places, than I would fly to the the moon.

:shr:
You need to study the social credit score system in China. Their systems are very effective in policing the people with no jails or police. In fact its very shocking how well it has worked in a few short months.

Requires a citizenry that overall has reached a critical mass in the mean level of intelligence and united in a general sense of purpose in society..........by race and culture.

Do you see that in the US by any stretch of the imagination?

One thing to think about. Ambulances often won't go to the site of a 911 call unless L.E. is there first.

and often because of the cost of an ambulance first response will dispatch the fire dept first......before an ambulance is called to the site..........I've seen this first hand with a neighbor once....asking the fire dept why they showed up and they explained that to me.

Sharia law is a Mob-enforced law given legitimacy under religion.

A near approximation is an Italian fiefdom who enforce a sort of tribal law (i.e. law of "connection") based on and (usually) with the support of the Catholic Church.

The Sicilian Mafia, also known as simply the Mafia and frequently referred to by its members as Cosa Nostra (Italian: [ˈkɔːza ˈnɔstra, ˈkɔːsa -], Sicilian: [ˈkɔːsa ˈnɔʂː(ɽ)a]; "our thing"), is an Italian, Mafia-terrorist-type,[4] organized crime syndicate originating in the region of Sicily, dating to the 19th century. It is a loose association of criminal groups that share a common organisational structure and code of conduct. The basic group is known as a "family", "clan", or cosca.[5] Each family claims sovereignty over a territory, usually a town or village or a neighbourhood (borgata) of a larger city, in which it operates its rackets. Its members call themselves "men of honour", although the public often refers to them as mafiosi. The Mafia's core activities are protection racketeering, the arbitration of disputes between criminals, and the organizing and oversight of illegal agreements and transactions

There was a considerable "transference" of Mafia value and underpinning to the US in the late 19th and early 20th century. Mainly as a defense mechanism for the newly arrived immigrant Italians. The transfer was not all bad as the Mafiosi generally administered their fiefdom with a certain measure of "fairness" and their presence as the "Big Dog" tended to hold down the non-connected, and hold the connected to a certain business or moral standard.

Certain sections of New Haven, CT that Owner has spoke of (Wooster St.) are STILL under control of the Mafia. Nearby Black populated neighborhoods suffer from the usual drug, extortion, prostitution problems while streets under control of the Mafia have nice gas streetlights, level sidewalks, storefronts kept to a certain standard of appearance, a police force that is present, even if not effective. Business within the Mafia district are known to pay "protection money" which amounts to a property tax surcharge and affords the business the services of "enforcers" in the maintenance of order.

During the 1967 race riots in New Haven, the Wooster St. area was untouched, primarily due to the presence of the Mafia.

One imagines that seeking some order - not necessarily legal - humans attach to ANY Big Dog.

Possibly even an AntiFa Dog.

Right up to the moment where you or a loved one needs life-saving medical care. Then the 1850’s wouldn’t look so great.

YOU KNOW I’M RIGHT.

you beat me to it, Dennis!

Most of us would be dead or dying a bad death!

Ill tell you...your great grandparents would much rather live in this world with its conveniences...thing is, great grandpa would have already cleaned up society!

So, there’s that!

Of course you are right. The same would apply if he needed to call 911 or be in Europe in 24 hours. Technology has helped us immensely in many areas. Undeniable.

OTOH... if he wanted to buy a rifle, a pistol or a hundred of each no silly assed questions would asked other than "Do you have the money?" The same would apply to unlimited quantities of gunpowder or virtually anything else.

We have certainly got life easier now. Air conditioning, refrigeration, electricity and all the niceties but concurrently we have lost freedom after freedom in that same time period.

These will one day be considered the good old days.

How far has this gone in real time. Are they going to do it, or just run their mouths for awhile?

THe police force should tender their resignations effective immediately and go home. Move to another state and start a new career. Leave the council with no protection and see how it all works out.

Fine, except that many have mortgages, car payments, wives/alimony payments, families/child support payments, credit card debts, etc. Also, many really want to get pensions. You'd tell them to walk away from that with no promises of compensation.

Only worry about what you can control!

They are going to be forced to walk away... Walk away while they can still find jobs outside of there. Veto proof majority, things are not looking good.

they ain't gonna do squat - the police force is unionized and this would drag out for months in court
That has never been a problem when a company went under.

Court may indeed be a part of the situation once closed but never about whether the company stays open. It's about fulfilling contracts for retirement, etc. Instead of full retirement the court decides what the percentage will be.

In the mean time the company is closed.

It never really shrinks either.

This will be more like an amoeba, dividing and oozing into a different form.

Cary, you’re Incorrect here. this isn’t a business. It’s government. Government NEVER closes.
What you say may be true, but portions of governments do close down. And you might consider that the police is not the government, it is simply the enforcement arm of the government. If they want to cut that arm off, go for it, the union can't stop that.

Case in point: State Health dept. have closed offices all over the place. While not union, no one said they couldn't do that.

In theory the union exists to make the working conditions better for it's members. Not being the entity that employs the workers.

YMMV

Of course, taxes will not be reduced. That money will be used to fund the ne'er-do-wells and their "free stuff." Will businesses be able to afford to hire former law enforcement personnel for security? Then again, the public will not be safe to visit these businesses for fear of violence. This whole scenerio is totally insane. We are definitely heading into the time of taking care of your own self.

Well, either the population is truly self regulating and police are unnecessary or it isn't.
The residents apparently believe it is. I hope it works out.
In any case, they will never vote for a conservative.

That look you get when you realize that the person you are talking to is insane

Her Wiki states: She received her master's degree in City and Regional Planning from University of California, Berkeley in 2007. Minneapolis might want to consider electing High School dropouts from now on.

I haven't been to MPLS for quite awhile. From what I understand the Somalis are dominant in one neighborhood, Cedar-Riverside. There you might see some form of sharia. The rest of neighborhoods are homegrown and I think various gang control is more likely.

Spent a coupla winters there around '05.

I hired a local guy who needed filler work after going to Fire School and waiting for a slot to open.

He had some interesting insight.

Back then, there were already problems with Hmong gangs. Now they are 12%ish of the population, 100,000 or so.

Not sure how they will fit into all this, but enough warm bodies to take into consideration.
