Military option is on the table if needed to prevent Iranian nuclear weapon: Malley​

US Special Envoy for Iran Rob Malley said Monday that the military option was still on the table if diplomacy failed in trying to revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.
“As the President has said, if all other means fail, as a last resort, he would keep the military option, very clearly on the table, if that’s what it would take to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” Malley said.

But Malley reiterated the Biden administration’s preference for diplomatic efforts to succeed and defended the administration’s continued willingness to engage in indirect talks with Iran.
“We make no apology for having tried and still trying to do everything we can to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon,” he said during a webinar with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a Washington-based think tank.
Malley added: “Again, preference for diplomacy if that can work with tools of pressure, sanctions in particular, but also keeping very much all options on the table in case diplomacy were to fail.”

As for the status of the nuclear deal talks, Malley said there has been “no movement” since early September.
Therefore, he said, the deal is not a focus of the administration right now. “We’re not going to focus on something that is inert, when other things are happening,” Malley said, pointing to the anti-government protests in Iran and Tehran’s decision to transfer drones to Russia.

He was quick to say that the administration had not given up on diplomacy and trying to reach a deal with Iran. “But if Iran has taken the position it’s taken, we’re not going to spend time focused on that.”

Iran has nukes... Again???

I see this as a convenient way to move an almost WW conflict from RU's doorstep, with all the very bad consequences likely, into the ME, where the fighting almost never stops and RU and US can run a big proxy war without the real possibility of nukes over DC or Moscow. Plus, the FUSA .mil always wanted a war in Iran.

Again? Heck they've had the ability to make them for years, and likely have the parts and pieces all on hand, if not already assembled either domestically or in a couple of assemble your own kits from Pyongyang.

again - - - the point was that every few years the .mil and frequently the Israel .mil rolls out the 'immanent threat' of Iran nukes. been done for 20 yrs and always becomes a big nothing. maybe the russia bad meme isn't working so it then changes to the iran meme.

I once more direct everyone's attention to the 1960s "Nth Country Experiment". That they've also got ballistic missiles only makes it worse.

As to switching memes, which a good argument can be made to support, it doesn't help that the theocratic-mafia conglomerate that runs Iran has been talking crap and doing crap since they got into power in 1979.

Can we sustain deployment to support "military option" in Ukraine, Taiwan, Iran, and North Korea because we have already proven that the only way the current State Department can exercise diplomacy is with the threat of the "military/nuclear option".

It won't be long before every petty tyrant in every third world country realizes we are not only overextended financially we are over extended in "military options".

Not a military solution with Cuba just change sugar daddies. Mexico? I think if we would have treated Mexico like we have Russia before the war Mexico might have cleaned its own house.
