CORONA Michigan is restricting advertising to 'essential items'.

Menards has received a second notice from the Michigan Attorney General's Office, this time for encouraging customers to visit stores for non-essential reasons.

Menards is allowed to remain open under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order. But the company is supposed to limit operations to sustaining or protecting life.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said the retailer is using marketing and sales practices to draw in customers for non-essential purposes.

The stores are gonna continue to rake it in (and you can BET sales are up) until somebody lays the hammer down.

Again...behavior predicts outcome.

Humans have a huge, probably inborn instinct to want to feel in control and when events and their lives start to feel totally out of the control they often react by trying to lock down on things they think they can have some control over.

In the UK this resulted in police being disciplined for using drones to follow dog walkers taking perfectly legal walks in the countryside or confiscating chocolate Easter Eggs as "unnecessary purchases" even though a food item and therefore perfectly legal to buy and sell by the local rules.

Trying to micro-manage what people buy and sell is one of the control mechanism and like, they are often put in place with the best of "intentions" but we all know what the road to heck is paved with....

This is happening in more and more places. There is a thread about Vermont limiting what can be sold too.

I bet the pressure to do this is coming from the small "single specialty store" places that are currently closed.
Someones in a politicians ear saying close them or were reopening.

After all this is done, how many of their temporary powers go away ?
They now have history to base even worse temporary powers later on.

Though in all honesty, you really can't get any worse than the Ohio mayor who basically declared herself "Dictator" and the city owned everything if they wanted it.... then again, things can always get worse.

For those that have been trying to slap those of us down when we bring up Constitutionality and rights of citizens, and justifying things being taken away because feelz, this should be very telling assuming they are still of a mind to be thinking rather than emoting.

We lost a lot of freedom after 9/11. Justified and rationalized to make people feel safe regardless of the reality. Freedom we have never gotten back no matter the number of court cases, etc. I foresee the same thing happening this time. There are going to be a lot of people angry about that.

Honestly I see a lot of people taking flack in the near term for the side they join because there is no middle ground. Those advocating taking the rights away of others will forever be connected to the rinos and .gov types and the NWO, and those advocating on behalf of people keeping their rights even if it scares some people will forever be rabble rousers and anarchists or worse.

Finally figured out I had the wrong State in the title. Fixed it I think. Not one of my better days but then lately, most of them haven'b been.

The only consolation at this point is that Trump has a wide range of even more executive powers thanks to things like the Patriot Act, et al. If he would actually USE them, that is.

What I have seen in the last two weeks has shown me :
---a percentage of both conservatives and liberals are willing and happy to rat out their neighbors even when those neighbors are not doing anything threatening, endangering, etc.;
---a percentage of both conservatives and liberals will support even unnecessary restrictions if it makes them "feel" safer; and
---a percentage of both conservatives and liberals will EMBRACE a dictatorship as long as the dictator is one of their own.

Shameful isn't it?

Life is better in flip flops
Dem KY gov set up a hotline and a website to rat out your neighbors a few weeks ago. It's called KYSAFER where you can report non compliance on businesses, work at home instructions and social distancing violations on a "Report Non Compliance" page

Constitution or not read your State’s department of health laws and the authority granted them during a declared health emergency. Their power is almost limitless and has been since the 1918 pandemic and has been upheld in the courts. That pandemic scared them so badly they made sure they had the legal tools to manage another one.

These laws have been on the books for a very long time. Under a declared state of emergency many of your rights go ‘poof’. Doesn’t matter what we feel or think about them as they have the full teeth of government power. You have to decide if such restrictions during a pandemic are enough to make you go off the reservation or not. As these type laws are virtually the only tool to mitigate the virus until a vaccine is found I decide to comply with them as much as possible.

There is a line in the sand that I won’t personally tolerate but this action during a deadly outbreak isn’t one of them.
