Angela Merkel said Germany had "kidded itself" multiculturalism was working​

Attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany have "utterly failed", Chancellor Angela Merkel says.

In a speech in Potsdam, she said the so-called "multikulti" concept - where people would "live side-by-side" happily - did not work.

Mrs Merkel's comments come amid recent outpourings of strong anti-immigrant feeling from mainstream politicians.

A recent survey showed that more than 30% of Germans believed Germany was "overrun by foreigners".

The study - by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation think-tank - also showed that roughly the same number thought that some 16 million of Germany's immigrants or people with foreign origins had come to the country for the social benefits.

When the German "gastarbeiter" (guest worker) program was started many years ago, the common reaction that I observed among the citizens was that it simply would not work. I knew some of the participants.

I would have told the Germans so, had they asked me; but they didn't (sarcasm). This "diversity" crap simply does not work.

Apparently the German gummint has finally figured this out for itself. Maybe the rest of Europe will come to its senses, too. Maybe even the US will eventually pull its head out of its nether regions. (But that, I seriously doubt.)

The solution is to have a sane limited immigration policy based on jobs that cannot be fulfilled by the indigenous population

all immigrants should have a job secured and accommodation, they should be no burden on the taxpayer whatsoever

So what do you do with the ones who are already here who refuse to "assimilate" and continue to adhere to their opinion that Sharia laws should become the law of the land. If Muslims have 4-11 children per woman (in some cases) and men can have 3-4 wives, and Westerners typically have less than one child per woman, and one wife, they will eventually overtake us and will be able to impose whatever Islamic laws/customs they wish.

My purpose in asking this is because I just had this debate yesterday with my adult sons and I'm interested in opinions from posters here.

I saw a youtube video where the equivalant of the german dept of vital statistics was reporting that the birth rate among traditional germans had reached such a low rate that it was now statistically impossible for it to recover, they predicted germany would be an islamic republic by 2040 unless major changes to voting/immigration laws took place.........searching for the link now

Mrs Merkel told a gathering of younger members of her conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party on Saturday that at "the beginning of the 60s our country called the foreign workers to come to Germany and now they live in our country... We kidded ourselves a while, we said: 'They won't stay, sometime they will be gone', but this isn't reality.

"And of course, the approach [to build] a multicultural [society] and to live side-by-side and to enjoy each other... has failed, utterly failed."

In her speech, the chancellor specifically referred to recent comments by German President Christian Wulff who said that Islam was "part of Germany" like Christianity and Judaism.

While acknowledging that this was the case, Mrs Merkel stressed that immigrants living in Germany needed to do more to integrate, including learning to speak German.

"Anyone who does not immediately speak German", she said, "is not welcome".By speaking now, Mrs Merkel has now joined the increasingly hot debate on multiculturalism, coming down on the side of those who are uneasy about immigration, says the BBC's correspondent in Berlin, Stephen Evans.

Her comments come a week after she held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which the two leaders pledged to do more to improve the often poor integration record of Germany's estimated 2.5 million-strong Turkish community.

Earlier this week, Horst Seehofer, the leader of the CDU's Bavarian sister party, CSU, said about integration that it was "obvious that immigrants from different cultures like Turkey and Arab countries, all in all, find it harder".
"'Multikulti' is dead," Mr Seehofer said.

In August, Thilo Sarrazin, a senior official at Germany's central bank, said that "no immigrant group other than Muslims is so strongly connected with claims on the welfare state and crime". Mr Sarrazin has since resigned.

Such recent strong anti-immigrant feelings from mainstream politicians come amid an anger in Germany about high unemployment, even if the economy is growing faster than those of its rivals, our correspondent says.

He adds that there also seems to be a new strident tone in the country, perhaps leading to less reticence about no-go-areas of the past.

How can one function in a society one lives in if one does not speak the language and refuses to, and refuses to assimilate and makes demands? I'd say get your butt back to the sandbox. It's not like they're going to put them in the ovens. Totally different thing.

they have the right to work in europe. if you are european you can work in any country just like we can in any state. the problem is germany has alot of great social programs and since the iron curtain fell the country has been flooded with polish, romanian, russian you name it. the country has changed alot since the late 90's.

When I was in Germany last summer

I noticed a few things. Not many kids -- except tagging along behind the Muslim women who wear headscarves and long dresses, no burqas. It was pretty obvious even for just a short visit that the indigenous Germans aren't having more than a kid or two. Yes, at that rate, Germany will soon be a Muslim nation. Same thing with any nation that allows vast numbers of people to enter their country and stay, whether legally or not, whether they are speaking the country's language or not.

Even while visiting, I made an effort to speak German to the people. (I lived in Bavaria for a few years as a kid, so not all my German had disappeared -- but most of it.) My brother, who is expert in the German language, said he couldn't believe how well I communicated in my pigeon-German. I thought it was just common courtesy. The astonishing thing is how many there speak English. But it was fun to talk with the people and get little grammar lessons and see the twinkle in their eyes -- they liked it that I at least was trying.

As it has in all Western countries but so what? I agree with her but what is she or any other leader proposing to do about it? Secure the borders? Start actively and vigorously enforcing immigration laws? Start campaigns to alter our course? This is not the first time similar comments have been made. Every Western country in the world has been purposely taken down the same path. Mere rhetoric will not change the outcome of destruction facing us and the West.

Mrs Merkel broke a long standing taboo in Germany to address the immigration issue in a milestone speech at Potsdam near Berlin as right-wing feelings rise.

Mrs Merkel told a meeting of the youth wing of her party: "Multikulti, the concept that we are now living side by side and are happy about it.

"This approach has failed, utterly," she said just days after a new poll showed a third of all Germans viewed immigrants as welfare cheats.

She said: "We feel bound to the Christian image of humanity, that is what defines us. Those who do not accept this are in the wrong place here."

"Germans should also talk about their values and their increasing alienation from religion, in order to affirm their sense of country and society."

Mrs She said that immigrants who did chose to live in Germany must adapt and learn to speak German as "quickly as possible."

Mindful of the German legacy of the Second World War and atonement for racial policies that cost millions their lives, German politicians since 1945 have tended only to speak in broad positive terms of the "multikulti" society as it is known.

The ratcheting up in the political tone, allied as it is with the fears of the population about unemployment and loss of identity, triggered a sharp warning from Jewish leaders in Germany that democracy is under threat.

"A recent expert study should prompt the government to act against antidemocratic ideas," the secretary general of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Stephan Kramer, told a German newspaper on Sunday.

"All possible cultural circles are being stigmatised, defamed and tarred with the same brush. I find it on the one hand irresponsible and on the other, shabby. He said the current debate on integration of migrants and immigration was making people feel "uneasy and scared ."

For the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel to say "We feel bound to the Christian image of humanity, that is what defines us. Those who do not accept this are in the wrong place here." is like the US President
Barack Obama saying " Those who are not Christian and speak English are in the wrong place (meaning the USA)!


Project out 5 or 10 years and I would say that there would be very serious racial issues.
