PLAY Masks - Today I Saw

I go out to Lowe's on a daily basis it seems and Food Lion ( grocery store ) couple of times a week.

In NC it is mandatory you wear a mask, but our local Sheriff has come out and said he ain't enforcing it.

My area was rural, but quickly becoming the suburbs with TONS of new Liberals moving in all the time. It's a definite clash.

So today, I went to Lowe's. For the past week there has been someone at the door handing out masks. I walk past and just say "no thank you" as they try to hand me one. They smile and say "OK" and I go about my business. I would say 80-90% of people are wearing them.

I walk down the hardware aisle and there was at least 15 confused liberals, all masked up, trying to find screws or something... As I walked along the aisle it was like the parting of the seas.... :p People were backing up with frightened looks on their faces as I walked through.

My second trip, yep, forgot something, a father and his 2 daughters are entering and he says to them in a panicked voice "KEEP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS!" Then he looks at me and literally drags them away...

Thursday, I was in Food Lion and a woman yanked off her mask! And sneezed!! nice!

Last week a woman told me it was illegal! ILLEGAL!! To not wear a mask! I won't repeat what I told her...

Tonight we swam a bit then I run out to pick up dinner and I pull up to a red light and stop and an RV pulled up beside me with an older couple in it. Both were wearing masks in their own RV. I could only shake my head and laugh.

Yesterday on NEXTDOOR, the mask topic was brought up and within 4 hours there was almost 300 replies. 95% were you don't care about anyone but yourself and I hope you die posts and it got more and more heated until one lady threatened to go chop the head off of another. I called the non-emergency number of the sheriff's office and they came out and took a report and the deputy went to have a talk with the lunatic.

Hey, if I don't laugh about the absurdity, I might cry...............

What will tomorrow bring? Oh yeah, church! Where no one wears masks! And some people even hug each other :D:D:D

Yeah ... seeing a lot of people driving their cars lately with the windows up ... all masked up. Funny stuff. There was a young couple 6’ in front of me at the gun store today. The guy farted. I laughed ... said ... I heard that, do I need a mask for that.

We all got a laugh outta that

1984 is not fiction.
We were in Aldi's the other day. I'm looking at the asparagus, I turn looking for hubs, and I see this masked up couple at the grape section. He takes an unwashed grape, lifts up his mask and pops the grape in his mouth, then pulled the mask back down. Then I look his spouse and she's chewing behind her mask.
I just turned back to the asparagus thinking, okay, reality check, I'm officially living in Bizarro World.

Went to Wasilla Fred Meyer this evening after my return from Kodiak. Can’t say I saw a single person with a mask - customers or staff. That’s a big change from last time I was there at the end of June. But there were a LOT of holes on the shelves and the prices were sky-high.

Went to longview Texas last week where mask are mandatory. None of the linemen had mask on. Walked into the FBO only one lady behind the desk had one on. Went to the lounge to watch tv and three people there didn't have a mask on. Ask the boss man when he returned from his meeting if he wore a mask. He smiled and shook his head no. Apparently East Texas has an independent streak. I like it.

This IS IT in a Nutshell, people have seriously lost their collective ****ing minds, I flat out refuse to wear a mask, don't even have one, I've got a few glares in Kroger but no one has the balls to say anything and at the end of the day unless they're complete assholes I'd just smile and keep on walking.

You can't argue or debate crazy and that's all it is, just lunatic crazy.

Yeah, nextdoor.com....I no longer comment with rationality because them woke folk are unhinged.

MANY Karen's kavitching about dog poop encountered on walks, branches from storm damage laying near the walkway, the resident Muslim stirring things up in the name of shaming whitey, etc. I constantly restrain myself.

Oh joy! They have a new thread about masks. Karen's gotta Karen, ya know. SMH.

Years ago, there was a big news story about how dirty grapes were and to not eat them until they were washed. So I was in the store one day and another lady was looking at the grapes. I was wondering out loud if they were sweet and she took a couple out of an open bag and offered me one. I said 'no thanks' and as I started to tell her about the news story, she popped them in her mouth and chewed them right down. Then she covered her ears and said 'don't tell me! I said 'ok, I won't but it wasn't pretty.' She gave me a disgusted look and walked away.

There is a man who is a jogger who jogs by my field every morning - he wears a mask jogging.

I wonder where his blood oxygen goes when he is running?

Do you suppose this might be like the high altitude training that many Olympic Athletes do? Train in low oxygen environment like Colorado or the Himalayas and then when you return to sea level you take advantage of "oxygen loading" to enhance your performance?

Of course the hazard to this man is he might pass out before he gets to his "training zone."

He should wear a blood oxygen analyzer, that way he can push himself to the consciousness edge.

I think most Liberals are there already. Sentient, and able to stand, but the intelligence "higher functions" are disabled.

Just don't engage.

Must be practicing some kind of social tunnel vision when I'm out, and rarely even recognize people I know. They all seem like a horde of zombies. Now masked generic zombies. Don't care one whit what anybody is wearing as long as they don't give me any crap, and go out early to the stores only when necessary to avoid them all.

People say they are naturally wary of me....based on aura/general attitude.
Good. Took me years to get it right. ;)

I have to say I'm really confused on this mask wearing thing. In all seriousness what is the truth? DH and I are old and have multiple issues. So are we safer with the masks or not? I for one cant breathe in them but on occasion wear one.

A comment about mask wearing in the car: I pick up my mother every afternoon at the senior facility and take her out for an hour. They are supposed to wear masks there anytime they are in a common area, etc (they do a pretty good job of keeping the seniors safe).
Anyway, I put a mask on about 2-3 traffic lights before I get there. (1) so I don't forget and (2) so that it is on when anyone sees me at the senior facility. But to someone in the next car over at that last traffic light, they won't understand why I have the mask on being alone in the car.

My Trip Into Save A Lot Yesterday

**sidenote: I'm 57. 6'4" and about 290 lbs. Rather grumpy in appearance when not smiling, especially when I'm hot and on task***

I had a couple of things to get and I was near a Save A Lot store, so I stopped in. The MANDATORY masking went into effect this past Monday.

I truly forgot to grab the silly thing and mask up and just went in to get a couple of items we needed. I realized my masklessness when I got to the back of the store. I grabbed the stuff and went up to pay. This was the conversation:

Cashier: WHERE'S YOUR MASK????

Bones: In my truck. I forgot to grab it.

Cashier (a scrawny young guy): Next time you come into my store, you WILL wear a mask or I will NOT sell you anything!

Bones (pausing a moment to process his attitude): Here's the deal, TYLER, take a really good look at me and ask yourself if I look like I am the guy you want to give a bunch of bullshit to.

Cashier Tyler (pausing a moment to process my attitude) That'll be $3.23 , sir.

Bones: That's better. Enjoy your evening.

Directed to Terrwyn:
From what I understand, it is to protect persons other than yourself, unless you have an N95 mask. The basic cloth mask won't keep the virus from coming IN, so if someone near you has it, you can still get it. If you want to truly be protected, you have to wear an N95 mask.

Not directed to Terrwyn lol:
Now, my question is this: If a cloth mask won't keep the virus from getting IN, how does it keep it from getting OUT? I know, I know...droplets and all that crap. But, given the fact that now they're saying that it's airborne, again....same question.

I only know that I don't have the obligation to protect anyone other than myself unless I choose to do so and the government mandating that we have to protect someone OTHER than ourselves is bull$hit.

That makes sense.

Well, I for one understand the mask issue quite well, both sides. Once it becomes mandatory though, that is when it becomes a nightmare for store managers, they end up having to call the police over Karen vs. Gadsden flagger's all the time. I believe one of our local PDs actually has a unit for that now. That would have to rank up there with a Friday afternoon custody dispute call.

That is AWESOME!! I wear one when I have to because 1) I'm NOT 6'4" and about 290, and 2) I can't afford a $500 fine if I get caught without it.

On a side note, bossman went into a local convenience store yesterday to get something to drink after gassing up. Bossman is just a smidge larger than average, a SUPER nice guy, and you can tell by looking at him that he's a super nice guy. This is the transcription of his text to me:
Ran into the gas station and I didn't have a mask on. Totally forgot about it. (Our mandate went into effect yesterday.) Some lady starts chewing on me about it and I apologized and said I left it in the truck by mistake. This is just some random lady. Then some old guy comes up behind me yelling at her telling her that "I didn't go to war as a young man and fight for your freedoms for the government to be treating us this way" and then they started arguing. I paid for my drink and dipped out lol. People have gone mad.

I think I would have stayed just to see how it played out. Bossman did not state whether the old guy was wearing a mask or not, but it seems he did not hesitate to launch into Karen with both feet for accosting bossman.

Consider:
You are a young 20 something skull full of mush.
You work as a cashier.
You make 8, 10, 12 bucks an hour.
You handle every item from every shelf.
You come face to face with 8 people per hour on average for an 8 hour shift - 64 strangers
You are certain someone is going to kill you with corona.

I wonder how long that is going to last

I deactivated my Next Door account last week. There are just too many freakin Karen's and Ken's (the male version) on it.

Went to the neighbors chili fest yesterday. All but a few had masks on, but since it was 96 degrees here, most people had them pulled down. I had one with me, but since I was staying a good 6-8 feet away from everyone I took it off because I could not breathe. Only stayed for about an hour and came home to get out of the heat.

Any store manager better not have his cashiers or employee’s making comments about masks. It could get ugly ... and laws suits filed against them if a employee escalates it. Employers are in for
lawsuits if employee’s take things to far or maybe get them hurt. The mask issue should be stopped at the front door.

They better get them some public mask intervention training

I think you are safer if wearing an N-95 or N-100. The cloth masks help a bit. Try to find a real mask N-95 or above with an exit valve. The exit valve helps.

Sheer silk scarf here, and only if masking is mandatory to enter the store.
I'm not one to make scene, but I think it makes a statement.

I work for an HVAC/plumbing company. In that city, the business owners are expected to enforce someone not wearing a mask or face penalties. What a crock. If we are to let people into the office, the entire staff will have to mask up when someone is inside. We don't have a lot of people come in, but my guys work out in the heat all flippin' day and need someplace they can come into the air conditioning and take a break/eat/just be comfortable and they can't do that if they're having to mask up. As a result, we will no longer allow anyone inside beginning tomorrow. If someone needs something in person, I or another office person will meet them in the shop since the big bay doors are always up & it's open air.
