market surveys - free stuff

I'm starting to get a number of emails claiming that 'they' want to deliver me some product or other - free. Crap like an xbox or a playstation.

Any idea what the scam is? All I've been doing is deleting the emails without reading them.

Yeah, you have to "sign up" with one of a list of "service providers" (services vary), and "buy" something from them. Upon being notified that you've fulfilled your committment, the free product is supposedly shipped to you.
