INTL Man Utd star is set to force PM into ANOTHER U-turn on free meals during school holidays- UK

A small bit of background is needed for this article (which is another hugely long UK Daily Mail article and I'm not posting the entire thing) that is American readers need to understand that the UK and Ireland have NO FOOD STAMP or FOOD programs, so all the Dole money (currently called UBI but it isn't really, it just a catchy name for The Dole) and during bad times like the COVID unemployment issues or Ireland in 2008, children really do go hungry. The NHS has also noticed a worrying trend over the last three years of underemployed and unemployed parents and children having a lot of health problems related both to malnutrition and the sort of health issues that arise from eating pretty much nothing but carbs and starches from the food banks, which in the UK pretty much means things like old breakfast cereals, white bread, canned beans and little to nothing that is fresh or non-over-processed cast off "food" from big shops who donate before it goes out of date.

A young "footballer" (soccer) star has put his own fortune on the line, paying for as many lunches as possible and spreading far and wide his own story growing up surviving partly on the "free" lunches he got as a child, while his hard-working Mother was not always able to make enough on her low salary to feed them and pay rent.

The government led by Boris Johnson, recently totally miss read the public mood when after nearly shutting down the country (and throwing millions out of work again) they voted to not extend free school lunches over the breaks and Christmas.

This has created on the good side a massive charity effort led by shops, restaurants, individuals, churches, charities etc to provide food for kids, especially to unemployed families (and those of first responders) during this period. Things are so bad, the backlash so intense that BoJo may just lose his position as party leader and Prime Minister- the vultures are already circling and party members (I think pretty much all of them) are finding themselves facing their local voters greeting them with shut doors, requests not to visit, and promises to "vote them out of office."

The Tory party KNOWS they have to do yet another U-turn (after so many I've lost count) their own backbenches have promised to risk their positions by voting AGAINST the government (which could also get them thrown out of power and cause a snap election if things get to a certain point) meanwhile I think Scotland and Wales have promised lunches during Christmas break and Northern Ireland is likely to do the same thing.

This story is becoming HUGE, which is why I am posting it as a stand-alone; and also shows that in some ways all news is local; just imagine BREXIT if there is a sudden snap election before Christmas and Labour now led by a "moderate" in a Suit (globalist type) win?....

Boris Johnson today hinted at another climbdown on free school meals during holidays as furious Tories accused him of 'shooting himself in both feet' by bungling the policy.
The PM insisted he was 'very proud' of the way the government had supported families during the pandemic, including handing £63million extra to councils and increasing universal credit.
But Mr Johnson also sounded a conciliatory tone in the face of the campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford, vowing children would not go hungry due to government 'inattention'.
'We don't want to see children going hungry this winter, this Christmas. Certainly not as a result of any inattention by the government - and you are not going to see that,' he told reporters on a visit to a hospital in Berkshire.
Mr Johnson also confirmed that he has not spoken to England star Rashford since June, when the government staged its first humiliating U-turn, despite claims from Health Secretary Matt Hancock that they had been 'communicating'.
The government is scrambling to find a way out of the damaging standoff, with Tory MPs furious at the 'shockingly inept' handling and threatening to help Labour change the policy unless a solution is found for Christmas. Extending the free school meals scheme to cover holidays would cost about £20million per week.
One furious backbencher told MailOnline the PM's advisors setting up a photo opportunity today with him doling out sausage sandwiches was an example of the disastrous PR, raging that it was 'one cock up after another'.
A petition by Premier League footballer Rashford calling for funding of free school meals during holidays has gathered around 900,000 signatures.
Hundreds of cafes, businesses, charities and volunteers have been pitching in by offering food for distribution to those in need.
Meanwhile, protesters have been leaving empty plates outside local Conservative offices, while Rishi Sunak and other senior politicians have been banned from some firms in their constituencies.
The row escalated on another helter-skelter day of coronavirus developments including:
  • Welsh ministers have apologised after a 'trolley police' crackdown led to Tesco wrongly telling women they could not buy sanitary towels because they were 'non-essential' items;
  • Matt Hancock has fuelled hopes self-isolation will be slashed to seven days, despite Nicola Sturgeon saying she has 'no plans' to do so;
  • The UK's outbreak has slowed significantly since the start of the month, suggesting the latest suite of lockdown restrictions are successfully flattening the second curve.

Between this and his schizoid approach to COVID-19, I am beginning to think that BoJo is not yet at full strength after his own illness. This should have been an easy one to catch ahead of time.

Between this and his schizoid approach to COVID-19, I am beginning to think that BoJo is not yet at full strength after his own illness. This should have been an easy one to catch ahead of time.
There are growing grumbles, many from his own party along the same lines - at the very least I said at the time that he looked like he needed three months off, not barely three weeks, and while he has denied it, I think he does have "long-COVID" he always looks ill, he's old energy has never come back and he keeps constantly walking into situations like this.

Anyone with half a brain could have foreseen how this would play out, now instead of just "provided" as a gesture of "goodwill" a "special one-time" feeding of hungry children over their breaks and at Christmas (and Easter - this school year) he's being forced into another "turn around or your party walks away from you."

And this isn't the first time, it is just the one that looks the worst and has made people the most angry - on the other hand, the sheer outpouring of people who DO HAVE foods from restaurants (closed and open) to churches, charities, civil organizations and one suddenly wealthy footballer (who grew up in dire poverty) have really stepped in.

Of course, this has further "shamed" the government and especially the local MP's into knowing they have really-really stepped in it this time.
