Democrats vote AGAINST security aid to Israel

Instead of standing with Israel, Democrats continue to stand aside. (Note: “AOC, Tlaib introduce resolution to halt weapons sale to Israel”)

217 Democrats just voted against Rep. Tony Gonzales’ (TX-23) motion to recommit, which would provide emergency funding for the Israeli Cooperative Programs to ensure that Israel has the systems it needs to defend itself against continued attacks. This is part of the $3.8 billion the United States provides for security assistance to Israel every year (which has historically been supported on a bipartisan basis).

This is the same amount of funding for Israeli missile defense included in the annual appropriations bills.

This funding would ensure Israel is able to replenish Iron Dome resources necessary to continue to counter incoming rocket fire over civilian areas and provide additional resources to deter regional adversaries.

Details of the $500 million for missile defense cooperation.
  • $73 million for Iron Dome
  • $177 million for Short Range Ballistic Missile Defense
  • $77 million for Arrow III (upper-tier missile defense)
  • $173 million for Arrow I and II improvements
Rep. Gonzales delivered remarks in support of his amendment:
.@RepTonyGonzales: "Now is the time that we must stand with our ally Israel"
"We need to show them that we believe in their right to defend themselves and that the United States will do everything within our power to ensure they defeat these terrorists and any attacks by Iran." pic.twitter.com/wdzbBGkkYY
— Mark Bednar (@MarkBednar) May 20, 2021

Remarks:
“As I’ve listened to the debate on this legislation that seeks to provide emergency funding, I realized that it is tone deaf. The true emergencies we should be providing funding for that are not part of this bill.

“We have a southern border crisis, if that’s not enough we have a crisis in the Middle East. We have a n emergency situation at our southern border and as even as we debate, the United States’ closest ally, Israel, is under constant terrorist threat.

“Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, proxies of Iran, have been attacking Israel for two weeks and have fired over 4,000 rockets from Gaza into Israel.

“Now is the time to stand with our ally Israel. We need to show them that we believe in their right to defend themselves and that the United States will do everything within our power to ensure they defeat these terrorists and any attacks by Iran.

“Will my Democrat colleagues choose to stand with Israel or will they cower to the Iranian proxies?

“U.S. security assistance to Israel has been crucial to countering the many threats facing Israel on a daily basis. Our security partnership serves as an active deterrent.

“The investment in the Iron Dome defense system that counters short range rockets is one of the most important investments we have made toward peace in the Middle East.

“Not only does it save Israeli lives, it saves thousands of Palestinian lives. If the 4000+ rockets fired by terrorists had hit their targets, Israel would have had no choice but to escalate the conflict.

“Madam Speaker, if we adopt the motion to recommit, we will instruct the Committee on Appropriations to consider my amendment to H.R. 3237. It would provide emergency funding for the Iron Dome defense system to ensure that Israel has the system it needs to continue defending against these attacks and enable the Israelis to replenish the thousands of interceptors they have used.”

The final vote was 218 to 209.

Bernie Sanders may force vote to block Israel weapons sale, as Democrats split over Gaza conflict
The Vermont senator introduced a resolution to stop the sale of $735 million in weapons to Israel

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., introduced a resolution Thursday to force a vote on whether to block weapons sales to Israel as the deadly conflict between the terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza and its neighboring state Israel rages.

The Democratic socialist seeks to stop the recent sale of $735 million in weapons from the U.S. to the Israel Ministry of Defense, including Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) and Small Diameter Bombs, according to the resolution.

"At a moment when U.S.-made bombs are devastating Gaza, and killing women and children, we cannot simply let another huge arms sale go through without even a Congressional debate," Sanders said in a statement.

"I believe that the United States must help lead the way to a peaceful and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians," Sanders continued. "We need to take a hard look at whether the sale of these weapons is actually helping do that, or whether it is simply fueling conflict."

AOC LEADS EFFORT TO BLOCK ARMS SALE TO ISRAEL

Liberal Democrats in the House, led by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Mark Pocan, D-Wis., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., filed a similar resolution in the House on Wednesday seeking to block the White House-approved sale of arms to Israel.

"The United States should not be rubber-stamping weapons sales to the Israeli government as they deploy our resources to target international media outlets, schools, hospitals, humanitarian missions and civilian sites for bombing," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Wednesday.

The joint resolution reflects the frustration liberal Democrats have expressed with the Biden administration over not doing enough to force a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas – the worst fighting since the 2014 war. Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in Congress, confronted Biden personally on the tarmac in Detroit on Tuesday and engaged the president in a heated discussion about doing more to protect Palestinians and taking a stronger stance on Israel.

The ongoing airstrikes have left at least 230 Palestinians dead, including 65 children and 39 women. Meanwhile, 12 people in Israel have died, including a 5-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl.

President Biden told Israel on Wednesday that he expected "a significant de-escalation today on the path to a cease-fire" — but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back, saying he was "determined to continue this operation until its aim is met." It marked the first public rift between the two close allies since the fighting began.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sanders' resolution. And a spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., did not immediately offer insight into timing for a potential vote. Schumer, who has been a strong supporter of Israel, said Monday he backs bipartisan calls for a cease-fire led by Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., and Todd Young, R-Ind.

"I want to see a cease-fire reached quickly and mourn the loss of life," Schumer told reporters Monday while declining to answer a question on whether the $735 million arms sale with Israel should go through.

ISRAEL, NETANYAHU CONTINUE TO DEFY BIDEN WITH AIRSTRIKES AMID MORE HAMAS ROCKET FIRE

The Sanders resolution expressing disapproval for the sales of weapons to Israel is privileged, which means he will have the option to bring it up for a vote. The Washington Post first reported on the senator's plans and noted the resolution would only need a simple majority to pass the Senate and the House. But if Biden were to veto the resolution, it would need a two-thirds majority in both chambers to survive.

Congress has never successfully blocked an arms sales through a joint resolution of disapproval, the paper noted. Congress tried to block former President Trump's arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, but Trump vetoed those three resolutions in 2019 and the sales worth more than $8 billion went through.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The whole world partakes of her adulteries (dollars). The non-golden calf, however, is soon to be ground into powder. Weep and lament ye Palestinians. Weep and lament ye Israelis.

Uncle Sam is a bankrupt old pervert. His grave has already been dug in the cemetery of fallen empires.

money? whats that?
One thing I will say about Israel, and I would do the same thing, they will accept help from allies. BUT that help WILL NOT come at the cost of kow-towing to whoever gives that help. If Israel agrees to this ceasefire it is because it is to their advantage, and for no other reason. And I say I wish we had leaders like that. We used to have them, but no more.

If Israel gives up and agrees to cease fire are we to have sympathy for them anymore? It is the equivalent of a woman going back to a wife beater. Gaza will always do this. There is only one way to fix this problem and that is to win it, drive them out.
Not even close to being the same thing.

Israel has few friends and many enemies. They are getting heat from the few friends and this is the dance on the tip of a needle they always have danced.

If you think the ‘international’ community would allow Israel to have a ground incursion into Gaza you are seeing different world. Even in the US the normal NY demo support for Israel is very very quiet.

Israel needs US weapons to have any chance against the massive numeric superiority of the Persians and Arabs aligned against them. The prog left and the radicals now calling the shots in congress are trying to decouple the US and Israel. This is to weaken both parties.

Shades of South Vietnam......the Israelis may just decide to go for it and get it done once and for all since Biden and Company are showing their colors. It also begs the question as to how allies such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and India will interpret this behavior.
Um, If/when biden cuts off the DEFENSIVE IRON DOME SYSTEM ISRAEL may go with the offensive SAMSON SYSTEM. OMG

The conflict between Israel and the Arabic Nations has escalated and may cool down for a while, but it is not over.

Israel has stated: "NEVER AGAIN."

This should frighten the world if it becomes apparent that Israel may fall, Israel will use the nukes that they have never declared and nuclear war will come to the world.

Once nukes are released, it will be game over for nuclear powers will use what they have while they can. Pakistan&India, China&India, China&America, China&Russia and the list goes on and on.

Be prepared.

Pray for our world.
