Article comments in other places have Portland idiots blaming Tea Party people for this but my guess would be Obamabots all steamed up over Christians and their "bigoted" ways. *eyeroll* I'd be worried about our church but it meets in a local goobermint building that hands out taxpayer money to the local version of gibsmedats so the bomber probably thinks of it as an atheist shrine. *double eye roll*

Letters claiming responsibility for two improvised explosive devices placed in Coos Bay in recent weeks say the people responsible are threatening further violence if a Vietnam Veterans memorial shaped like a cross isn't removed from a city park.

The City of Coos Bay got one of the letters from a group claiming to go by the name "Veterans United for Non-religious Memorials."

In the letter, the group claimed responsibility for an IED detonated at the memorial in Mingus Park and another left in the Prayer Chapel in downtown Coos Bay. Firefighters discovered that IED while responding to a fire at the chapel. A bomb squad rendered the IED harmless.

The letters threaten further action if the park memorial isn't removed.

The Coos Bay Police Department, Oregon State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are pursuing numerous leads developed during the investigation, police said. Evidence from the explosive devices is currently being analyzed by both the Oregon State Police and the FBI Crime Laboratories, Coos Bay police said.

Anyone with information regarding the two destructive device incidents mentioned above or the recently received letters claiming responsibility is encouraged to call the Coos Bay Police Department at (541) 269-8911 or Coos Stop Crime at (541) 267-6666.

COOS BAY — A letter from a group claiming responsibility for planting explosives in Coos Bay recently was received by city officials Tuesday, but its authenticity is in question.

The group, calling itself Veterans United for Non-religious Memorials, demands that the city remove the cross atop the Mingus Park Vietnam War Memorial and threatens more mayhem if the demand is ignored.

“Apparently you are not receiving our message about the Mingus Park Veterans Memorial,” the letter reads. “We gave you warnings with the minor explosive devices at the memorial and at the Bay Area House of Prayer."

“From now forward, we hold each of you personally responsible for causing deeper grief and insult to the families and friends of non-Christian Veterans."

“If the City does not now comply with prompt removal of the cross, we will take increased action against you, your staff, religious leaders and faith based structures.”

The unsigned letter was dated Sept. 6, and postmarked Sept. 9. Its envelope bore the return address of P.O. Box 137, Coos Bay — the mailing address for The Prayer Chapel in downtown Coos Bay where an explosive device was discovered last week.

Coos Bay Police Chief Gary McCullough said FBI and Oregon State Police crime labs are still processing evidence collected from the chapel and from the Aug. 22 bombing at the Mingus Park memorial.

The letter listed its recipients as all seven members of the city council including Mayor Crystal Shoji and city manager Roger Craddock.

The letter was also copied to The World’s newsroom.

Saved, to glorify God.
It sounds like this guy/s has a beef with GOD, NOT PEOPLE.
Someone should inform him.
(BTW It is probably is a safe bet that this is ONE PERSON, trying to sound more important by POSING as a disgruntled GROUP of people, which don't exist!)

Displaying a cross is not an insult to atheists. This is ridiculous. I agree with anit - this sounds like a lone nutcase off on a tear.

Even though there was a large turnout for both sides of the cross argument when the local govt had hearings, I agree that it is most likely a lone nut.

Let's all pray that the bomber have a stroke so that he can't speak or take care of himself, and all of his caregivers are born again believers, witnessing to him all day long. He'll think he went to Hell, until he actually goes there.

With a stable population of around 15,900 in Coos Bay for the past 20 years, it should not be too difficult if the perp is a vested local.

It could be a local. Coos Bay has always harbored a few nut cases. I knew some bona fide Communists that lived in Coos Bay when I was a young adult--they propagandized every chance they could get the spotlight.
I have family there and used to live there once-- always liked Coos Bay/North Bend area. I heard earlier today that some of the threats originated out of Nebraska.

Back in the '90's, more 'white churches' burned than 'black churches' burned.

The MSM tried to make it a white on black thing... But it was just the first generation of anti-Christian hate.
