An army of shitty little critters with nasty dispositions at the ready?

The angry anus monkey forces...

Too funny Bossman, too funny.

You said that and I immediately envisioned that Jim Carrey movie scene where he made a monkey come out of the Hispanic dudes butt,...and then "run home little monkey..."

My thoughts, itemized numerically:

1. The overall premise of the Covid-19 response as a screen for something else? I could definitely buy that.
2. The comet approach is supposed to be farther than he said. I'd like to understand where he got his number.
3. Ref thought #2, If the comet passes as close as he claims it will, the error margin is quite small. We've had things pass closer without impact, but perhaps something not quite so large that we know about. If the error margin is insufficient and an impact occurs, thought #1 does make some sense.
4. Ref thought #2, if the comet is much farther away, but we go through the tail, we could have a remaining problem. Atlas (or alternatively known as C-19) is quite massive. The tail has a good chance of not being just dust and gas, but larger sub-cometary debris that might be considered comets in their own right if they were not part of another comet's debris train. Imagine a cat-o-nine-tails whipping the Earth, perhaps over a number of days.
5. The renaming of Atlas to C-19, while Covid-19 is in play, that coincidence is hard to shake. Hell, I've abbreviated Covid-19 as C-19 myself, so the woo is wiggy for me on that one.

I don't think we can dismiss this video out of hand.

He says this comet will pass closer, I believe. Then he also says this comet has a huge tail, and that the earth will be passing through that dust tail.
c19 is a fragment of the great comet of 1844 which appeared simultaneous to an unknown fever and respiratory disease, as per the Bill Page compilation of Epidemics and infectious diseases 1844-1922.
Not going to post a link because there's many sites describing it. When I started reading deeper about this Comet that green tail is made up of not only dust but also Cyanide gas. Just search the web using the terms "Comet Cyanide gas".

Hydrogen Cyanide Gas (HCN) is lighter than air. I'm not a chemist, but I bet it decomposes in sunlight. Especially in the upper atmosphere.

Is the comet itself big enough to cause issues on earth such as the earthquakes that are occurring?

I kinda figure we’re at maybe 2.5 out of 10 of where we’re headed..

All the talk of the giant comet reminded me of the movie Melancholia. Except that was a planet, not a comet.

While it is somewhat possible that the "Powers that Be" know about a potential space rock or something else headed our way, I would be very surprised if it was this comet.

The orbit would have to change quite a lot and there are too many good back-yard astronomers like my FIL whose hobby in retirement is sitting outside under the stars with an expensive telescope (that would probably have been the envy of NASA in 1958 in terms of technology) who also have calculation software to sort out the orbits.

While I'm not sure my FIL has been able to do this much lately (he's in a wheelchair now) there are thousands of people like him all over the world and they are often the ones who discover comets first and get their names on them.

Major observatory scientists then focus on them with even bigger toys..er...a instruments and predict their more likely courses in much greater detail.

Sometimes space rocks still appear out of "nowhere" usually in the Southern Hemisphere skies which don't have nearly the amateur and professional coverage that the Northern one does.

But a comet this large is going to be seen for months or years before it shows up, at least most of the time; once it gets an actual tail.

Found this video of the possible path the comet will take. It was uploaded by Video From Space which is a verified site with 897,000 subscribers so it's most likely authentic and the video is supposedly from NASA/JPL. The actual path a comet takes is extremely hard to predict from what I've read. Just a note, the third animation is quite different and worth the attention, especially when viewed full screen. RT 1:06

Astronomers have estimated that Comet 2019 Y4 (ATLAS) could pass within 25 million miles (40 million km) of the sun on May 31, 2020. It may brighten significantly along the way. See its orbit in this animation.

From Wikipedia.

HCN on the young Earth[edit]
It has been postulated that carbon from a cascade of asteroids (known as the Late Heavy Bombardment), resulting from interaction of Jupiter and Saturn, blasted the surface of young Earth and reacted with nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere to form HCN.[33]
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. All that hot cyanide, bumping into our Watery (Hydrogen) an Nitrogen-rich atmosphere...

Do Comets slow down when going around the sun?
They accelerate as they approach the sun from its gravity. After they loop around and are receding, they decelerate until they reach the farthest point in their orbit, (apogee) then they come back toward the sun all over again.

Yes, but wrong comet and wrong scenario. Wrong questions being asked.
This is a bigger deal than anyone is acknowledging.
This isn't necessarily about preparing for one large, known object to hit as an Earth-ender, it's not the movie scenario you see in "Deep Impact" with one large object incoming.
The threat we are under are the smaller unknowns, the 100-200 ft "buckshot" which can cause massive amounts of damage and are nearly impossible to account for.
Allow me to elaborate.
A NEW COMET:
Comet C2019 Y4 ATLAS was discovered on December 28th (3 months ago).
It is currently passing Mars's orbit on an inbound trajectory.
It has far surpassed all estimates for brightness and speed, ramping up several hundred times more than the original calculations have suggested. This indicates that they have no idea how to measure it accurately, or at least not in a timely enough manner.

C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) - Wikipedia
" John Bortle, who has observed hundred of comets and is a well known expert in the field, got his first look of comet ATLAS through his 15×70 binocular on the night of Sunday, March 15, and he's stumped. He said that,
For the first time in many years I am left at a bit of loss as to what honestly worthy advice I can offer would be observers. I really don't know quite what to make of this object. The head (or coma) of comet ATLAS is big, very faint and ghostly, which doesn't make sense. If it's a truly significant visitor, it should be considerably sharper in appearance. Instead we see at best, a quite modestly condensed object with only a pinpoint stellar feature near its heart.[7]"
" Carl Hergenrother, an assiduous comet observer based in Arizona, said,
We should expect the rate of increase to slow down. Until a couple of weeks ago,it was brightening at an astounding rate. The brightening has slowed somewhat, but it is still an impossible rate of brightening to maintain. This is where it gets tricky to predict just how bright it will get. Were ATLAS to continue to brighten with this rate all the way to its closest approach to the sun at the end of May,it would end up rivalling the planet Venus in brightness. Right now, no one can predict how long it will continue to quickly brighten and how dramatically that brightening will slow.[10]"
It's leaving a lot of experts stumped, and its travelling and brightening quicker than they ever thought possible.
But it's not the comet which is the wildcard.
THE COSMIC BUCKSHOT:
With this comet comes a debris field, including the many asteroids which are now making fly bys of Earth. 2020EF, 2020DP4, 52768 (1998 OR2), etc.
People in Northeast Pennsylvania may have witnessed portions of this a few days ago when a 100 mile long sonic boom and blue lights in the sky. This is similar to what happened in Chelyabinsk, Russia a few years ago, but the PA event was hidden by cloud cover that night.
There was also an event the first two weeks of February where a potentially hazardous asteroid came and went and nothing was ever said about it until the day before.

NASA reports asteroid to pass close to Earth tomorrow, might 'airburst'
Two Asteroids Most Likely Will Not Cause Tiny Atmospheric Explosion Over Earth
The problem here is NOT the known objects, it is the unknown. These comets and asteroids all stand the risk of breaking up and causing smaller debris which cannot be adequately tracked, or if it is spotted, is not spotted soon enough to do anything about.
This is the wildcard.

Planetary Defense Conference Exercise - 2019
https://iaaweb.org/iaa/Scientific Activity/conferencereportpdc2019.pdf
2019 IAA Planetary Defense Conference live stream
Their modeling exercise was around one large asteroid headed towards Denver which they are able to divert, but in so doing, it breaks off a 180ft chunk which they can't do anything about.
This chunk falls over New York city and airbursts at 5000 ft.
The resulting fallout is the equivalent of a 14 megaton nuclear warhead dropped on the city and decimates all of Manhattan.
It is considered "unsurvivable".
We have several known asteroid pieces which are that large coming towards us right now, and that's just what they managed to catch and publicize.
This isn't theory, this is fact.
I don't have any conclusions to draw about this. I am not saying this has anything to do with the quarantine. I don't particularly give a shit about Coronavirus or Ellen Degeneres.
What I am saying is that it's now being acknowledged that major destructive events like Tunguska, the vitrified forts of Europe and the glass fields of Asia are all related to airburst events of smaller asteroids which caused massive destruction which came out of nowhere.
Airbursts, just like the ones happening now.
Deploy all the National Guard you want. A single 200 foot rock can cause more destruction than the largest and most powerful nuclear device ever developed by mankind.
Given the circumstances, *if* this is not about the flu, I think the president quarantining the population, telling everyone to stay at home with their families, and preparing to hunker down, is the most humane and decent way to deal with the situation. I think they are doing a wonderful job in what would be the most difficult situation a leader could ever experience.
Now you know.

This is a more detailed explanation of what I am concerned about.

Perhaps, but then again, they say the coma is the size of Jupiter, so who knows how much would pile on for how long?
How scarce is a gas being held by that Little Rock’s gravity, surrounded by millions of miles of hard vacuum? Quite dissipated, I would guess. Not worrying about it.
