There may be no more evidence of weak and cowardly leadership than what has occurred in the Louisville (KY) Police Department.

Following a murder and numerous injuries due to an encampment in Jefferson Square Park, Louisville Metro Police Officers were directed to prevent more encampments and other unlawful behavior that would lead to additional dangerous conditions.

IS VIOLENCE CONTROL DEAD?

Officials made public statements that no overnight camping would be allowed in Jefferson Square Park and laws would be enforced to prohibit further violence and conflict in Louisville.

Louisville Police Officers stood waiting on Saturday to take necessary enforcement action and restore order if needed. At the same time, individuals armed with long rifles and scopes were removed from nearby parking garages.

According to a statement by the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police, officers were ordered to remove protective equipment, up to and including ballistic-rated helmets and approach an unruly crowd with a “soft-approach.”

This order was preceded with the “threat of immediate suspension.”

This order came after individuals with long guns were encountered in elevated positions.

In previous weeks, officers encountered projectiles thrown at them along with incendiary devices that were used during the riots in Louisville.

SUSPECT WANTED FOR SHOOTING TULSA POLICE OFFICERS CAPTURED

Officers were also reportedly shot at on numerous occasions.

In a statement by the FOP, “De-escalation is always the desired outcome; however, in law enforcement we recognize that every encounter may not end that way. Protective equipment has been designed and utilized over the years by law enforcement across the country, safeguarding the men and women we send into harm’s way. Asking our officers to remove their protective equipment for the sake of public image is absolutely shameful and unsafe!”

The FOP continued, “The men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department have yet again been failed by faulty leadership. I commend the brave brothers and sisters who stood up to this foolish order and I have their back. As a Sheriff, I will always be on the front lines with my deputies. I would never ask them to do something I would not be willing to do myself. Nor would I ask them to walk into a potentially violent situation without protective equipment they have at their disposal. Protecting the public and my deputies is my duty. It seems some LMPD Commanders have abandoned this concept.”

Unfreaking believable. Who gave that order? Make it public and then put them on the frelling spot for an explanation. Ask them if they will guarantee that the families' of fallen officers due to this order are recompensed from their personal assets.

Suicide by cop is common. What do we call this? Suicide by politician?

i would have just gone in with the usual protections for the situation, and lets see what they do. if they in ANY way were to reprimand or discipline them because of it, not only would i be screaming to the press and social media, but the lawyers would lined up, ready to make a killing from their cut.

Local news showed the “long guns” police confiscated from the parking garage. They were a lever action and a bolt action with a long scope and a stock mounted bipod. The persons with them were let go and can reclaim the weapons if they can produce proof of ownership. Louisville is a mess with nightly protest caravans tying up traffic. A group blocked the only non interstate bridge and hung a banner this week. The police Dept is displeased with the mayor as he holds them back from their duty.

Well, those will definitely qualify as "over watch" weapons....or in MSM parlance "sniper rifles"....

Local media has skipped most coverage of the protests. There are many buildings boarded up in downtown. Several protesters have been live streaming on Facebook. The Jefferson square park downtown is the center of activity. Police have banned camping there since a man was killed last weekend and many have been arrested in the area. Local TV ch41 WDRB has some coverage on their website.

Wow, there is a lot of crap rolling down the hill from the top...this is trickle down insanity.

I hope those at the top giving these dumb instructions end of falling into the ever-deepening crap and they drown in it.

It is a quickly progressive plot by the NWO to force police to quit so chaos ensues and they can call in the United Nations police. Order out of Chaos. Communist plot. Dastardly.

Or, they can simply fill the vacant positions with more suitable candidates (from their point of view...)

Same with the 'Defund' movement. Defund, release the 'bad' cops (again, from their point of view) and then when people scream due to rising crime, claim a mandate and return the budget and select your new Officers, ones who are on-board with the 'reimagined' policing model.

Win-Win, from a certain point of view.

I can only imagine what the vast majority of the LEOs in big cities are thinking and talking about with each other...

Old timer/short timers are taking retirement.

Veterans are weighing their options, early retirement, perhaps take a rock or brick to the noodle In the coming fray and Then go out on medical disability.

Rookies are divided. Some are still Gung Ho, committed, and idealistic, while others are disillusioned and their morale is suffering from the butt stuffing their leadership is giving them. Many will likely walk off, others will go down fighting, still others will pretend to do the job and try to survive until there’s nothing left.

What did the police actually do after being ordered to go in un-protected?

They did this:

Louisville officers suffer ‘blue flu’ after being ordered to shed protective equipment under threat of suspension
Things are going from bad to worse in Derby City

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Several officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department called out sick Tuesday in what appears to be a “blue flu” protest.

The rebellion comes a day after the Kentucky State Fraternal Order of Police offered harsh criticism of LMPD leadership. The group publicly denounced orders given to officers clearing crowds from Jefferson Square Park on Sunday to take off their riot gear or face being immediately suspended, Law Officer reported.

LMPD spokesperson Jesse Halladay later explained the order to have officers in regular uniforms was an effort to avoid tensions with protesters, WAVE 3 News reported.

Regardless, officers view such orders with disdain and a compromise to their safety. Moreover, the directives are given by people sitting in a safe environment elsewhere.

Halladay confirmed a number of officers scheduled to work in the 3rd Division called out, with only a few later reporting to duty. The 3rd Division includes parts of PRP, Valley Station and Fairdale.

Several sources told WAVE 3 News that all but one officer called out in the 3rd Division, while officers in the department’s 4th Division called out, too.

Halladay said the department was handling calls for service as needed.

“This is a difficult time for our city – for officers and residents,” she said. “Over the past month, officers have been asked to work many extra hours, as LMPD continues its commitment to protecting people’s First Amendment right to protest, while also working to protect everyone.”

In the past couple of weeks, officers have become increasingly vocal about what they perceive as a lack of leadership by the department and Mayor Greg Fischer, saying that has endangered lives and led to the destruction of downtown businesses.
LMPD retiree George Rodman led a coalition calling on the mayor to resign, Law Officer reported. They believe his leadership has led to plummeting morale among officers amid his directives to stand down and not engage rioters.
“Mayor Fischer told the officers not to engage the rioters. Downtown looks like a war zone,” Rodman said earlier this month.

“They’re trying to make a difference. They have the same common goals as protesters – a safe and thriving city. No racism. No corruption. Transparency and true leadership,” Rodman said during public comments.

The sick calls follow a series of issues the rank-and-file officers have tried to bring to light, such as the stand-down orders.
When asked, Fischer said the main approach is de-escalation, but said that Interim Chief Robert Schroeder made the call to stand down.

In early June, LMPD personnel protested Fischer as he arrived to address officers preparing to deploy during protests. A video showed hundreds of cops walking out upon his arrival, Law Officer reported.

Fischer issued the following statement regarding the walkout:
“The men and women of LMPD are putting in long hours. They are suffering insults and assaults from people they are working to protect. They are worried for their families and this city. They are frustrated, and some of them expressed that frustration today. I absolutely respect that. That doesn’t change my appreciation of the work they are doing, as I’ve expressed time and again. They have a very difficult job. I hope our residents will embrace our police officers as guardians –I know that’s how the vast, vast majority view their role.”

The early June protest came two days after Fischer announced the firing of the city’s police chief once he learned that two officers involved in the fatal shooting of a black business owner had not activated their body cameras, Law Officer reported.
The mayor has apparently spawned a mutiny of sorts within LMPD. Stay tuned for the next development.

It’s a shame. Louisville has the best Irish pub and grille I’ve eaten at anywhere.
