Local Fair Entries - Ribbons!

Hi guys! Been busy round here lately.

Put in a new lavender bed today (removed sod, then planted my cuttings that FINALLY rooted & matured), mowed (man it was hot) ......and submitted some entries into the local county fair.

Today was arts/crafts, veggies, herbs & crops day. Tomorrow.....flower entries (I can't wait!) Our friends/neighbors have caught the fever too, so they'll be putting in some of their beauties. :)

It's brag time! I submitted 5 items (some under duress- see below), won 4 ribbons!!

  • Sweet Banana Peppers - 1st Place
  • Munstead lavender - 3rd Place
  • Santa Carving - 2nd Place
  • Miniature Twig Gazebo (think fairy size) - 3rd Place
  • Bush Beans - Didn't place.

I'm completely suprised frankly. I've been planning on submitting things (flowers), but didn't expect to win anything. Cool huh?

What's funnier... the twig gazebo I constructed (accurate to scale) during the dark of the winter months, in a fit of boredom. Wasn't gonna enter it (I was going to toss it out in the yard under the foxgloves) 'til the DH & our neighbors/friends ganged up on me.

AND...my carved Santa...I put my foot down. It was one of my first carvings and flawed as all get out (mistakes too numerous to list). There was NO way, on this green earth...was I gonna enter that. A total newbie carving. Anwho! The DH snuck it out to the neighbors last night, and when we all got to the fair building today, our friend whipped it out & he and his wife did the "do it or else" thingy.   It was a conspiracy, I tell ya.

Turned out neat though.

Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Roses, perennials, bulbs ........ I'm simply not going to be able to sleep tonight.

Congratulations!!!! Our county fair isn't until early August but we always enter a ton of stuff. It is so much fun, especially for the kids!

So, are you making plans for next year? ;)

Good for you! We've entered stuff before too - one year won enough money (you get 1, 3 or 5 dollars per ribbon depending on if it's 3rd, 2nd or 1st place) to pay for the garden.

It's kind of a giant hassle, though, but fun to do. I didn't do it last year as I was rea3lly sick the day we had to enter, but maybe will this year.

Reporting in! :apc: Thank you guys for all the support!! Really appreciated!

Been another one of them busy days....

Got the flowers in, and did well! I was suprised actually. Most had either just finished blooming, or weren't quite ready yet. GRRRRR! But, took the best I had right now....

Told the hubby on lunch, don't 'spect no ribbons. As our friends put it, it was a humbling experience being around all those gorgeous flowers.

WE WERE SUPRISED! :D
  • Echinacea - 1st
  • Flowering Shrubs - Butterfly Bush - 3rd
  • Miniature Roses - 3rd
  • Floribunda Roses - 2nd
  • Bulb/Root Flowers - Liatris - 1st
  • Sunflowers - 2nd
  • Annuals - Cock's Comb - 1st
  • Daisies - Shasta Alaska - 2nd
  • For the marigolds & grandiflora roses - didn't place.

Neato, huh?!!!!!!!! I'm a happy camper! AND, what's neater...our neighbors submitted 5 items and ribboned in 4! Yes, we're already planning for next year. We are addicted.

The husband is now going around bragging about "HIS" flowers. ROFL!
