I've been expecting one or the other party to split and/or go away for the last 30 years or so, it tends to swing back and forth which one will self-destruct first.

The problem has been the "Uni-Party" that stretches across both parties, who until very recently has gotten very little pushback from playing "pretend" in terms of providing pre-approved candidates that look like they are choices but really are mostly window dressing.

The worst example was Bush II vs. Kerry, one Skull and Bones vs. another Skull and Bones; I'm sure different factions of the Uni-Party had preferences but they really didn't care that much who won.

Populists from Trump to Bernie Sanders (or Ron Paul) tend to make them very nervous and with Trump, they went into full panic mode. We are now living the results of that panic...
