Why on earth would they target Josephine County OR in a 500 warhead scenario? There is nothing interesting there I know of but Bigfoot. The mill is closed and they can't even pay for minimal Sheriff's service.

What the heck is in the exact NW corner of the Idaho panhandle/NE corner of Washington state?!?! My Rand McNally says that's National Forest. There's not even a river there, although it looks like the dams along the Columbia and Snake rivers earn a nod.

Klamath Falls Airport is home to the Oregon Air National Guard 173rd Fighter Wing flying a bunch of F-15s, although last I heard this is mostly a training base.

The target sites we, the citizens can not figure out in remote places tells us something.

What vital resource/secret base/undisclosed location is there that other govs know about that we don't??

Some are in the middle of the Texas desert that is deserted..... as far as we know !!

I know Montana has a lot, and I mean a lot of Silos. I assume that is their position. I always thought they were further east for some reason.

That's amazing.

I never knew that.

I knew North Dakota had them but never knew Montana did.

Looking at the big version of the map, they either misplaced the symbol and MEANT Klamath Falls Airport or the enemy really, REALLY hates Medford and Ashland.

That's what caught my eye, too. From what I can see, it looks like wilderness without any roads or rivers. What on earth is there to target?

So if you want to live, move to the East part of Oregon or to Idaho (Boise excepted), and pretty much anyone East of Omaha - Kansas - Oklahoma - Houston will be somewhat glowingly healthy.

Looks like the South shall not rise again.

I don't buy into this, the 500 hit version is unrealistic and silly.

Sorry, but I smell a wild a$$ed guess on someone's part. (or 1950s data)

You know what's REALLY silly? Thinking there will be a nuclear war. That potential basically evaporated by Y2K. So you folks can all huddle 'round the campfire and tell "nuclear ghost stories" to scare yourselves, but really, that's all you're doing at this point.

Of course, the OP map presupposes an enemy HAS 500-2,000 individual warheads atop what would almost have to be ICBMs and/or SLBMs. Which as far as I know at this point rules out every country except Russia. China might be able to pull 500 warheads out its ass, but they would have to be morons to use them all on the US and hold nothing in reserve for Russia, India, Europe, and perhaps Japan.

I also noticed that very few state capitals escape a warhead. Did anyone notice any state that didn't get at least one warhead?

absurd. we have far more to fear from our own leaders (democrats and RINOs) and chinese, than Russians.

America is toast, but it's not from ICBMs. all that has to happen is for the US dollar to collapse (imminent...) as planned, and total social pandemonium breaks out, and the fight for the last can of beans commences. within a month or two, we will cheer when the chinese arrive to save us from ourselves (as Kissinger predicted...) and restore ORDER. i doubt there will be many of the "entitled" that survive the implosion.

These look to be .mil targets NOT terroristic targets -- might be some overlap, but keep in mind the reason for Terrorist acts - Sure, a bang hits Ft. Sam Houston - expected if you live in San Antonio, but what about the Alamo? The two types of targets are not necessarily the same.

Terrorists will never, EVER have 500-2000 nukes, nor that many missiles to lob them at the US.

This is some kind of survivalist's wet-dream....

Why do you hold that opinion?

I agree that we have a major and impacting domestic problem blowing up in our face right now, and we can't lose sight of that. At the same time, we were told that we would be put under this domestic assault before many of here were born, and it only softens up this country for a subsequent external hit to come later.

I thought they even had a warhead for the Grand Canyon, but nope it looks like Page, Arizona. Presumably for the Glen Canyon Dam (per Wikipedia, "Page is also the home of two of the largest electrical generation units in the western United States"). Geez, considering how far from any major city that is they must lose a heck of a lot of electricity in the transmission!

Craig, Colorado also got one. Per Wikipedia, "... home to ... one of North America's largest elk herds" and "the largest power generation plant in Colorado." Although I figure it's safe to assume the elk aren't the main target. Same comment about power transmission losses.

So I guess the creators of the target map had a real hard on for the power generating infrastructure, and especially the big dams. But it should relieve some on the forum that they didn't repeatedly nuke Yellowstone. Of course, with 2,000 nuclear explosions throwing that much crap in the air (I assume at least the missile silos are ground detonations) I guess a super-eruption would be pretty much pointless.

Well, apparently there is one target in my county. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what that would be. Only thing around that black dot is a state park!! Wait a minute!! Maybe there is some secret government installation in that park? Get out the tin foil!

I'm inclined to agree with you.

I'm also inclined to agree with others that a 500 or 2000 warhead attack is extremely unlikely these days anyway.

Still intrigued by exactly what the map's creator considered a target in that NW corner of Idaho. Wasn't aware that Sasquatch and his brethren were considered a .mil target at any point...

Yep, old, old data from the old cold war.
If you look at florida they are still targeting the SAC base that used to be by Orlando and they have nothing hitting the Kings Bay Georgia SSBN base just north of Jacsksonville/Mayport

Me, too. I finally pulled out my DeLorme atlases for Idaho and Washington state and they don't even show ROADS there. Maybe one of the creators of the target map had a REALLY bad experience on the Idaho State Centennial Trail. Either that or they meant the nuke for Sandpoint, Idaho, which I think at least has the Union Pacific rail line (although you'd think they'd nuke the key rail tunnel through the Cascade Mountains).

My current theory about southern Oregon is that they didn't like the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.

TerryK,

I agree. For example A US Navy facility in the middle of a National forest in Northern Wisconsin is targeted (50 miles West of my AO).

According to Wikipedia: Clam Lake is the site of a U.S. Navy Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) transmitter site,[6] used to communicate with deeply submerged submarines. It was used between 1985 and 2004 but is now decommissioned.

Why do I hold that opinion? Why do you NOT??

A nuclear attack by a nation-state promises a nuclear retaliation, which would result in tens-of-millions of deaths in the attacking country. OTOH, just sitting back and letting the US implode poses ZERO risk yet accomplishes the same goal.

Not understanding that is, well, naive....

us-nuclear-targets-map Since we’ve recently been talking about Iran, Israel, the Middle East, China, Russia, the US, nukes, WW-III…

Out of curiosity I searched for maps that would reveal nuclear weapon targets in the US.

Not that it will make much of a difference to most of you, but it may be interesting to have a look at your own location in relation to the various nuclear target maps, to see how you would fare.

iOSAT Potassium Iodide Tablets

The various maps are from various sources, and I cannot vouch for any of them. However, using the logic that the average of the various maps may be somewhat close to the actual reality, I decided to copy several maps so you could interpolate for yourself.

The last map is of my own doing, which indicates several very general regions where it looks to me to be safer (notice I didn’t say ‘safe’) than others based on staring at the nuclear target maps listed here.

A few of the maps take in to account the prevailing wind patterns (a very important factor), and I weighted them more highly.

Israeli Gas Mask w/ Nato Filter

In any event, I thought you might find it interesting…

Oh, and there is no way I would want to be living near the three large zones in Montana, North Dakota, and the corner of Wyoming-Nebraska-Colorado (indicated on the first map) where there are evidently numerous nuclear missile silos.

For most, I’m sure it’s a bit strange or odd to even imagine or think about a nuclear war while looking at these maps. But the fact is, it remains a possibility, even though we hope that it is a very remote possibility due to the fact that there is something called ‘mutually assured destruction’ in which an attacking nation would likely be destroyed itself.

Suspect that with the possible exception of Iran and NK - any 'nuke' attack would be crude ("dirty bombs"?) and relatively small in number - single or low double
digits at the most. Iran and NK already have or shortly will have the ability to throw some nasty crap our way...and logic (i.e. MAD) does not appear to be their strongest suit.

The problem remains, however, even a SINGLE one of these devices - regardless who sets it off - will ruin many folks' entire day.

And yes, the USA will likely implode without any wisea$$ firing a shot - but again, some of these wisea$$es are less than logical.

I'm not sure that first map is very accurate. My county has nothing of any value as a target except a couple of power plants, which must account for the black dots, if there is any accounting for them.

Yet they completely overlooked Red River Army Depot in Bowie county.
