At the end of the video they discuss a new/old technology new being adapted for sailboats that is supposed to dissipate the ions that precede a lightning strike. Tesla coil kind of thing? Big $$$ and not proven tech.
The video discusses a few aspects of direct and proximity lightning strikes on boats. Several boat owners tell stories of how electronics were effected on their vessels. Almost all stories end with: "... and our insurance company dropped us X number of weeks after we made a claim". One and only one owner said their company kept them but tripled their insurance cost and their deductible sky rocketed. They also had problems obtaining new insurance after making the claim.
Surprisingly a lighting strike many times appreciates the value of a sailboat because all new wiring, electronics, appliances, electric engines, batteries etc. may have needed to be replaced.
