PREP "Lifetime" of tapeworm med for cheap!!

DEPLORABLE ME
Prepping for dogs...our dogs periodically get Tapeworms, because in patrolling our AO (thousands of empty acres) they find dead critters to gnaw on, or catch rabbits, exposed to the fleas they carry etc etc and so I have to go buy Droncit which is not only supply chain dependent, but also only sold in small relatively expensive doses.

Well, there is a seller on Ebay selling the same medicine (Praziquantel ) in bulk powder form, rather than in capsules. 50 grams for $35 plus $4.50 shipping.
A neighbor went in on it with me, because her dogs get tapes too and 50 grams would be good for 500 LARGE dog wormings. That's about $7500 worth of doses buying at the feed store...

Tapewormer powder dose for dog or cats: 2.2 MG (minimum) per pound of pet weight. Use the guide below for minimum doses:

12.5 MG dose of Praziquantel for 5.5 pounds of pet weight
15 MG for 7 pounds of pet weight
25 MG for 11 pounds of pet weight
31 MG for 14 pounds
35 MG for 15 pounds
50 MG for 23 pounds
62 MG for 28 pounds
75 MG for 34 pounds
100 MG for 45 pounds
125 MG for 57 pounds
150 MG for 40 to 60 pounds

160 MG for 72 pounds
225 MG for 103 pounds
275 MG for 125 pounds
325 MG for 147 pounds
375 MG for 170 pounds

For horses use .7 of a MG per pound of horse.

People get tapes too:

Humans: Praziquantel tapwewormer is used in humans: at 20 mg/kg (9 MG per pound) bodyweight three times a day as a one day treatment, at intervals of not less than 4 hours and not more than 6 hours. The recommended dose for clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis is: 25 mg/kg (11.36 MG per pound) bodyweight three times a day as a one day treatment, at intervals of not less than 4 hours and not more than 6 hours.

Use level 1/8 teaspoon as 150 MG

I will keep this med. vacuum packed in a jar in the freezer, should be good "forever". We're off grid, freezer will still be operational WTSHTF. But vacuum packed and kept cool would probably be good enough.

bbbuddy - thanks for this info. Can you supply a link for your dosage info and the name of the eBay seller. I have always thought that control of parasites will be a very important task in a less than optimal future.

I use diatomaceous earth for worming. It works on all worms and is natural. No chemical or toxic effects and it's CHEAP. I have a 5lb bag that will last for years as I only worm if I see them in their stools or their coats look off. Ashly has been wormed ONE time and so far Sophie only one time and that was before we got her. I find that raw fed dogs seem to not get worms like kibble fed dogs for some reason but, DE works nevertheless on tapeworms without toxic overload. It also is full of nutrients and you can use it on dogs or cats.

There are other places to buy food grade DE that are much cheaper than Wolf Creek Ranch. I used that link so you can read about how to use it for your pets or even yourself if you think you may have worms!

It can also be put on your lawns and gardens to control pests there.

I had to use it in the house once and that worked well also. Just sprinkled it around and got rid of the fleas that a neighbor's dog brought up to us....grrr.

layrpp9 is the seller I bought from.

Dosage came from another seller that sells small packets. His handle is drarthurwells

He sent an email to a member of a fish forum with the dosage info, he also has some of that info on his ebay auctions.

Here is another link for using ivermectin, you can buy it in bulk for regular worming or for heartworm prevention:

Wise Owl, DE is fine, we have it, BUT will NOT get all worms. For instance, heartworm life cycle does not take place anywhere in the digestive tract... and I have not seen it work well for Tapes...

I would keep and use Ivomec (can also treat mange, lice, ticks, and fleas) and Praziquantel even with DE usage. DE is not going to work on worms that do not inhabit the digestive tract.

Tapes do not usually bother dogs too much, but did you know that the little segnmments that crawl out of the dog's butt contain millions of eggs?
In your home you stand a good chance of inhaling some eggs after the segment has dried out and busts open. When that happens, in people they can end up in your brain or eye causing problems you don't want to think about...
