GUNS/RLTD Lever gun hunting rig overview

I think a lot of those rounds are pointed and that does not work well in a lever tube fed gun. There is concern that recoil could cause a round to discharge in the tube or so they say because the pointed tip is up against the primer of the next round.

Hornady LEVERevolution rounds addressed that question since Jan. 2013.

The .350 Legend uses a .355 (9.0 mm) diameter bullet. You can get quite a selection of flat point jacketed bullets in that diameter. The only issue is that somewhere around 147 grains is where you would max out in that variety.

Levergun whore here.
Model 1892 in .357/.38 (Lucas McCain’s model, except his was in .32-40), 1894 in .32sp (took my first deer with it, formerly grandfather’s then father’s deer rifle), Marlin guide gun in .45-70 (two moose with it so far). Each a lightwt dream to carry and so pretty.

I have my great grandfather's .38-40. Went to my Grandfather, Grandmother (who hunted deer with it until she was in her 80's) and now to me. Beautiful, lightweight, smooth as silk, peep sights, saddle ring, and accurate as anything could be.

My father was born in 1925. When he turned 12 in 1937, his father bought him a new 1894 Winchester 30-30 for his birthday. Wish I knew what he paid for it new in 1937 but I bet it was like $25 or less.

I grew up deer hunting with that ‘94 starting when I was 10 in 1966. My father took the opportunity to buy himself a new Winchester Model 100 semi in .308 when he handed down the ‘94 to me.

That little ‘94 original iron sights, never scoped, has taken an untold number of deer since 1937.

Must be nice to get to go hunting. to know you can support your family, I have never got to. Never had anyone to take me when I was a kid, and other then shooting 2 bullets into a hillside about 10 years, I have not even held a gun in about 35 years.
When TEOTWAWKI hits, I sure hope people will be willing to trade food for a DIY generator. I can build those all day long, as long as I can find the parts.

Go buy a gun and start shooting. Go to a local range and get some help early on till you feel comfortable and safe using the gun. There are even places you can rent guns and get training. Then you can figure out what kind of gun you may be interested in learning more about and owning.

Its an addictive sport if you ever take the time to get into it. There are a lot worse things you cloud be doing with your time and as you said it can put food on the table not to mention you can be better prepared to defend your family if that day ever comes.

The constitutions says I can have a gun, the state says I can not. I have already spent to much of my life locked up for doing something that should be legal, I am not going to give them another reason to lock me up again.

The shooting sports are a MUCH, MUCH more productive use of your time than other things - time wasteful things like NFL, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, baseball, golf, soccer, etc!!!

Enjoy !!!

that last word, "again" seems to be the constraining factor

I keep thinking that a lever gun in 45 Colt will come to the top of the list. Maybe when the market calms down a little.

Guns & Ammo, October issue. On page 51, they feature the Marlin Model 1894 Dark Series.
Nice.
I want one in .38/.357. Interesting little tidbit they presented - due to Marlin's different lift mechanism/cartridge carrier, it can reliably cycle both .38 Special and .357 Magnum rounds, whereas the Winchester cannot.

Have a early 90’s vintage Winchester 94 Trapper that will reliably cycle both.

many states allow past felons to possess and
Hunt with muzzleloader, and/or crossbow, which can at least partially fill the gaps.
I had a cross bow pistol I was fairly good with, till it broke. I spent so much time with it, learning how to use it, I wore it out. It was just plastic. I am looking for another, and more darts, and a target, that I can afford. being on a limited income also mean limited shopping.
