The Mad in Genius
I just wanted to rant a little here and I have no other place to do it.
Recently I have gotten a promotion at work, my old management team had been pushed out and a new team was created with me involved. I don't have people reporting to me (thank god) but I am now more involved.
My major rant is this, "You can be a boob and not be able to do the job properly and never get fired for it, BUT touch a boob and you are out the door instantly!"
The amount of crap you need to go through to fire someone in a large company is down-right crazy. It takes at least 3 months to can someone and more like 6 months. And since it takes so long even a boob sees the end of the road coming. I knew of one person that was called to a meeting with their boss and HR in the afternoon, went home sick, and the next day had a doctor send in a note that they were on short term disability! Dragged the whole thing out another 3-4 months!! Meanwhile your good employees are working extra hard to keep things going, get pissed off and leave to a better paying job.
In the end it is just easier to eliminate the jobs to get rid of them and lay them off then to go through the work to fire them for being stupid.
The sad thing is my old management had caused this problem to begin with by making bad hires, poor training, and being too PC. This same management tried to get me fired because of my poor PC skills (I spoke my mind often and too bluntly)
