…… Leasing question

All,

Just had a quick question for anyone who may know
As my lease is about to expire, it is probably a mute point
But for future reference I would really like to know if this is ok

I notified my landlord that I would not be renewing my lease for an additional 12 months and will be moving on

My Landlord then asked if I would be available to let a friend come by and assess the premise

I have no issue with this, but part of the request stated that if I was not available, this friend had a key and could enter the property

Caught me off guard, as I was unaware that someone in the vicinity, other than my landlord had keys to the home

Is this normal? as it is not stated in my lease

Like I said, probably a mute point, as I have had no issues at all, but wanted to know for future reference

thanks all

The landlord owns the property, and as the owner, he can designate an agent to enter the property for legitimate reasons set forth in the lease, such as maintenance. I'd be surprised if you didn't authorize this in the lease. It's fairly standard.

I understand

Was wondering if he needed to designate a agent, or if he could change it at any time

I have no problem with my landlord, just wish I had known who had keys, as I have some valuables in the home
