Kitchen Tips

I thought maybe we could share some of our favorite kitchen tips. It's always fun to try a new tip, so everyone join in. Here are a few of mine.

Tuck a piece of aluminum foil under the cloth or napkin in your bread basket to help keep the rolls warm.

Sprinkle plain bread crumbs over your pie shell before adding fruit filling. The crumbs absorb some of the moisture and you’ll have a crispier crust.

To keep leftover egg yolks a few days in the refrigerator, cover with cold water. When ready to use, gently pour off water. Yolks will be intact.

I read about a simple method of sterilizing cutting boards, counter tops, food saver bags, etc. You get two small spray bottles and fill one with regular hydrogen peroxide and the other with white vinegar. You spray the surface you want to sterilize with first one, then the other. It doesn’t matter which order. Then let it dry. There is no detectable taste of either remaining after drying. This was suppose to have been developed by a microbiologist. He claims this will kill mold spores, salmonella, e-coli, and just about any germ.
