SOFT NEWS Kevin Costner Trailer For ‘Horizon,’ The Next Major Cowboy Western Drama

Something I was concerned about was the wokeness on how badly the US mistreated the Native Indians. Which in the bad old days was shoot'em up doggies, and was thinking is this an extension of "Dances with Wolves"? Where the indians were benevolent and the Calvary was dirty, and foul, and the only good indian was a dead indian. Which included women, children, dogs and horses.

2nd to that, I may have to do some more research because right now it is flying over my head, and that is, the setting in the Civil War years? During the war people were moving in covered wagons west? After the war and during Restoration like yeah it was a flood, but during? And some of the indians during the war were fighting IN the war.

I only mention it cuz THEY said it was an historial American Saga.

I may have a little bias towards Hollywood and the Civil War era, and Civil War Saga's movies. Since they paint the South as scumbags and idiots, and the untruths about the war, are enormous.

If anyone wants to enlighten me go ahead.
First of all , Hollywood is a business. It tells stories. Always has.
It strives to make money. It tells stories about monsters and aliens, so keep that in mind.
todays writers are commies and woketards.
History is being rewritten.
I you want a first source account of what was happening, you have to go to a library and find old newspapers (for example) and read them, Even then, but more likely you will get closer to the truth

Costner makes a great western, and he knows it is a great investment as well. I just hope this new one stays the course. Sheridan creates decent stuff, but 1883 and it looks like 1923 are only one season, and Yellowstone really is just about the ranch shooting it out with some weird militia every season. Yellowstone just got more and more predictable, whereas the 1883 and 1923 shows were better and better written.
Taylor Sheridan doesn't know shit about history. 1883 was WOKE AS HELL!

"an historical American Saga" means "as interpreted by Hollywierd" and geared to sell tickets but I get you. There certainly was conflict between Aboriginal Americans and incoming settlers and, as both sides were fighting for their lives, ugliness did abound.

I'm not sure a 4-chapter theatrical release is going to work though: most Costner projects tend to run long and I'm not sure about having to go out to a theatre on a recurring basis to see a 4-parter. I'm more likely to pay a fee to watch at home; the popcorn & snacks are cheaper and there no likely issues pending.

OR, being the cheapskate I am, I can wait until it become more available; most likely option for an old hunter - just wait until the right shot presents itself.

I have a tiny bit of Virginia Indian ... Powhatan ..and back in the early 1980s I was in Austin Texas with good friend....she was Trail of Tears Cherokee her people were mainly still in Oklahoma...we were talking to a Texas man
I don't remember the entire conversation but at some points she said something ..to the effect than Texas didn't have any Indian reservations ...his snarled answer was of course not we killed all the Indians..and looked at me because he didn't realize I carried any Indian blood....
When I first met my friend, her first words to me were what kind of Indian are you....growing up on the east coast in Virginia....I had never seen that type of hate toward Indians before...my Mom was raised in Oklahoma.....but my Indian comes from my Dad's side of the family..
That is truly still a part of the West even today....that will now always be a part of me...

I have been close to a number of Indian families and they are not benevolent ....and all and warm and cuddly...Cosner is full of it....

Then watch a John Ford movie or Glenn Ford (had the fastest quick draw in Hollywood).
Been watching both of those. LOL

Just got through watching one where Glenn had two, count them, two colts with golden handles. Yeah Hollywood. He went up against Witmore, out drew him and threw them in the dirt.

Didn't Reagan star as a Confederate Officer against his Yankee bother?

Also been looking for a few more that either Apple or amazon has tied up.

Since 1999
I second that on wolf kills, it brings the insane to new levels. People go ape over protecting them at the cost of sheep, cattle, pets. And here when the Upper Mississippi River freezes in January the packs run the ice at night.

Maybe Kevin will revive the western genre with the new movie studio in Utah. Woke has a limited shelf life. And will be very dated in the future. We will be able to tell: oh that production was in the early, self righteous 2020's. Ted Turner tried valiantly to revive the Hollywood western. And he had great production values. Worth a try!
Taylor Sheridan already has revived the western. Costner is just riding his coattails while it is hot.

Yellowstone isn’t too far fetched as you think, my neighbors could be on a TV show with their ranch, the hell they’re going through with wolves, death threats from wolf lovers, people shooting cattle because the state had to kill wolves on their ranch multiple times. The state and feds have pressured them every way you could imagine, threatening them over dead wolves, worse than Yellowstone wolf incident by far which I think they down played on TV.

The family own hardly nothing as individuals, everything is ranch owned, everything for the ranch, they’ve been featured in quite a number of publications

They don’t have a “train station” but…

There’s real ranches out there with real cowboys running them and they have real issues too
I know quite a bit about ranches, having worked as a cowboy and assistant ranch manager for decades. I worked for a rancher and doing day work before I met my husband, and together we worked in several states and ended up managing ranches. I've worked on cow/calf, yearling, and registered cattle ranches; feedlots; sale barns; and even a bull sales lot, with 8-10 different breeds of bulls. Worked in CA, OR, WA, NM, CO, MT, NV, KS. So I do know something about ranches, cowboys, and real ranch problems.

I object to Yellowstone's silly story lines, though I will admit I've only watched the first couple of episodes and I quit watching in disappointment that they couldn't come up with better stories. As I recall, the story lines involved a neighbor keeping strayed cattle (doesn't happen, that's stealing and can be prosecuted. You have no claim on animals that have strayed onto your land); water being stolen by a neighbor (this is also highly illegal, everyone knows it and water is a very touchy subject, since you're dependent on it in most western states); guy goes out and catches a wild horse and brings it home to break it (you cannot do this, even if they live on your property. Wild horses are owned by state or federal government and it is generally illegal to bother them at all, much less catch one. You can go to jail for this. I live in a state with 80,000 wild horses and I see them frequently. I am interested in the BLM wild horse issues, so I have a little knowledge there too, besides having adopted and trained one in the '80s.) Then there was the calf that they pulled in the pasture that got up and galloped off. Please. I have pulled a number of calves and seen a great number born, and it will be hours before they are coordinated enough to totter along after mom.

Good stories could be collected and incorporated in the series from people like your neighbors and people I've known. Instead, they make up these fantasies that they think people will like. They could be educating people on the real problems that people have in the ranching world. People keep saying the originator of the series was "raised on a ranch." I have to wonder what kind.
