Kathy Hochul Defends Sending National Guard Into NYC Subways, Says Move Was Made To Address ‘High Level Of Anxiety’

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York defended her decision to deploy National Guard troops to the New York City subway Friday, citing commuters’ “anxiety,” the New York Post reported.

Hochul announced Wednesday that she would deploy 750 members of the New York National Guard and 250 state troopers to combat crime on the subways of New York City. Crime on the city’s subways has increased by 13% year-to-year, according to the New York Post.

Hochul defended the decision after criticism from police officials and lawmakers.

“When you have that high level of anxiety, now you’re dealing with the psychological toll that deters people from wanting to go on the subway,” Hochul said, according to the Post.

“NYers want truth and solutions! Let’s talk. Transit crime is 12% in the last 5 wks because of extra cops deployed, a planned commitment by @NYPDPC @NYCMayor,” NYPD Patrol Chief John Chell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Thursday. “Our transit system is not a ‘war’ zone!”

The NYPD arrested three suspects in the death of a 45-year-old commuter Feb. 23, six days after a severed leg was discovered on a subway track. Police also took a Brooklyn resident with eight prior arrests into custody Feb. 16 after a cellist was attacked.

In May 2023, Daniel Penny, a Marine Corps veteran, surrendered to face charges of second-degree manslaughter in the death of Jordan Neely. Neely, 30, died after being restrained by Penny while on the subway after Neely acted erratically and went on an aggressive tirade towards other riders.

Of course you could actually JAIL those who break the law.

Or are you giving jail cells to "Migrants" now too?

Maybe dispense with the police, judge & jury? If they're not citizens they shouldn't be getting the benefits of membership. A one way plane ticket home would be a lot cheaper.

Edward Everett Hale would approve (Man Without a Country)

Deterring crime isn’t the long term solution. Arresting and incarcerating the guilty are the long term solutions needed to stop crime. It’s been done and worked before. But it doesn’t fit the democratic narrative.

I've heard more than a few on radio ask where is this manditory acquiescence to "random bag checking" in order to ride the subway any different than "stop and frisk"?
They don’t understand stop and frisk. S&F is a legal tool allowed by a Supreme Court decision that gives The police an investigative tool to stop and maybe frisk someone that may have or is about to commit a crime. The bag checks are a completely random pick. Say like every 5th person. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

KH is a dope. She doesn’t know what she’s doing. Her staff is comprised of dopes. The Democratic criminal justice policy has become one of appeasing their voting base.

Bottom line is the majority of New York State (and New York City) voters got what they voted for. They need to live with it.
I do not feel sorry for them at all. Those conservatives that did not vote for her need to look at alternative places to live. Move to a red state. Same with New York city. I have family members (mostly on my wife's side ) who I no longer deal/speak with at all. Which she is OK with. Stupid liberals!

Hell, he's probably back out on the street by now. Guess all those "bag checks" couldn't protect against this. Nice going Hochul, you waste of oxygen

Woman’s feet amputated after boyfriend allegedly shoves her in front of NYC train

Witnesses told officers that the woman and her boyfriend had been arguing before she was pushed, according to the NYPD.
March 9, 2024, 3:03 PM EST

A 29-year-old woman had both of her feet amputated after she was allegedly pushed onto subway tracks in Manhattan and struck by a train following an argument with her boyfriend.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fulton Street Station at Chambers Street, the New York City Police Department said.

Witnesses told officers that the woman and her boyfriend had been arguing before she was pushed, according to police.

The unidentified woman was taken to the hospital. Sources told NBC New York that she lost both of her feet.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon and the investigation remains ongoing.

Shortly after that incident, around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, an unidentified man was killed after he was struck by a subway at Seventh Avenue and West 53rd Street in Midtown, police said.

Witnesses told officers that the man jumped onto the tracks, according to authorities.

Police said they do not believe the two incidents are connected.

Crime in the New York City subway system has been an ongoing issue. To combat it, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Wednesday she was ordering a force of nearly 1,000 people, including 750 National Guard members, state police and transit officers, to conduct bag checks at some of the busiest stations in an effort to rid the subways “of people who commit crimes” and to protect New Yorkers.

Now running for Emperor.
All these cities run by Liberals: Hell holes each and every one. And yet, with decades upon decades, of Liberal governments and Liberal majorities in those governments, they still have the Gall to stand up year after year, and say that all of the problems are the Conservative's fault. Worse yet, most of their constituents appear to believe them.

There's no fixing that.

It worked VERY well for Rudi Giuliani.

Now elderly, the best the Left can do is make fun of his hair coloring.

Oh, and bring libel lawsuits against him.

It's hard to imagine - the last person I would sue is a lawyer.

Doesn't seem to stop the Left. Rudy Giuliani - Wikipedia

I count at least nine current lawsuits.

*snip*

The suspect, Christian Valdez, fled the station, but was arrested at about 9:35 p.m. at the corner of Jay and Willoughby streets in Brooklyn, when he went to meet a parole officer but was instead met by NYPD, sources said. He was charged with attempted murder and felony assault.

The reason being, a very large amount of conservatives have moved from the hell holes. Buy popcorn, more ammo, and watch from a distance.
