Heightened Security Measures at US Embassy Ahead of Hardliners' Planned Protest

AMMONNEWS - Jordanian security forces on Thursday intensified their security presence around the U.S. Embassy compound in Amman following attacks on embassies in Libya, Egypt, and Yemen.

Security forces will begin Friday morning to cordon-off the area surrounding the U.S. Embassy in Abdoun district in Amman.

A Security source on Thursday evening told UPI that the area surrounding the Embassy compound will witness unprecedented security reinforcements.

"There is a clear and firm decision to security forces to confront any transgressions towards the embassy," the source, preferred to remain anonymous, told UPI.

US Embassy in Amman official spokesperson Silvio Gonzalez stated on Thursday that the Embassy has not received specific threats targeting the Embassy compound, stressing that the embassy continues to monitor the security situation and coordinate with Jordanian officials.

"We are deeply grateful to the support of the Jordanian authorities in protecting U.S. embassy personnel, including Jordanian and American citizens. We are also grateful to the Jordanian authorities for protecting the safety of American visitors and tourists to Jordan," Gonzales added in a press statement obtained by Ammon News.

The heightened security measures comes ahead of a planned protest called for by the hardline Salafi Jihadi current in Jordan on Friday to express rejection of a controversial movie produced in the US that was leaked on the internet and deemed offensive to Prophet Muhammad, a central figure and symbol of Islam.

Under the banner of a "Stance of Anger," the Salafi Jihadi current called on supporters to protest following Friday midday prayers at Al Kurdi mosque, near the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

"We consider it incumbent upon Muslims today to respond to such offenses through any legitimate means," the current's statement said.

The statement considered the production and dissemination of the film "Innocence of Muslims" as an offense to Prophet Muhammad, and a part of the "methodological and repeated policies that offend Islam and Muslims."

The statement blasted Western powers for "facilitating repeated offenses against Prophet Muhammad," at a time that "Muslims believe in all prophets, respect, and believe in them."

The U.S. Embassy in Amman had posted an emergency message for U.S. citizens on its website that various groups have called for demonstrations in front of or near the U.S. Embassy Thursday evening and Friday.

The message noted that Facebook groups have called for a protest in front of the embassy, but Jordanian police have not confirmed the event, stressing that additional security has been deployed at the embassy.

Another group has planned to stage a sit in outside the embassy under the slogan "Be With Us."

The Embassy warned its citizens to avoid areas where demonstration are ongoing as although protests intended to be peaceful "can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence."

Embassy Spokesperson Gonzales extended that the embassy is "troubled and saddened by the loss of life of our colleagues in Benghazi. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and those who suffered during the attack," referring to the attack on the US embassy in Libya which killed the US envoy there and four other employees.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but cbc.ca is carrying a story about a review of security at the Canadian Embassy in Tripoli, which I suspect might be a little more than just a 'review'. My wife also told me that a Toronto radio station is reporting that our embassy in Egypt (sorry, not sure which city it's in) is on alert, possibly also to close shortly. I guess the word is really out and the pieces are moving.

I suspect that Harper is not one to mess around with this.... he will get our people out of there.

There is certainly a part of me that is standing there saying 'What?' while reality screams 'ENGLISH, motherf***er, do you speak it?' This has a patina of unreality about it, even as I watch it unfold, even as I make certain adjustments to my defensive posture.
Unreal, but not.

Same. 100%. I see what's happening, I know world history, I know where we're heading, where we've BEEN heading. It sickens me as I watch the news flow in. The minute I saw the flag being ripped in Cairo, I started jumping up and down yelling "PULL THEM OUT NOW."

Actually, further back, the moment Canada pulled their Embassy, it was like a lightbulb went off in my head. Same reaction. WE NEED TO GET OUR PEOPLE HOME, NOW. We have jets, helicopters, people, and guns. DO IT. NOW.

Obama's reaction was no surprise. The fact that our embassies and consulates are now sitting ducks, fending for themselves, not a surprise. IT sickens me that I, an American, am not surprised our people are left to die by our government.

This is nothing short of slaughter. Were my grandfather alive today he would be weeping. Oh, how my country has fallen.

So, then, fine. This is coming to our shores, since it cannot seem to be stopped 'over there', is this right? We have all kinds of 'them' in our two countries, right now, boots on the ground as it were. Not to be inflammatory, but that suggests that a potential adversary is already within the walls. Is it reasonable to conclude or even suspect that it begins with embassies, then widens?
I sincerely hope that those of 'them' that came here, came here to get away from all the nonsense in their respective countries of origin. Certainly not to lie in wait for a go signal....
Sure am glad I don't live in the city.
America in particular should not have endured this. Where is the response, like after the Marine Barracks in '83?
This is going to get out of control.

Here's the Jordan tweet grid. Might as well get it ready. What's cute is that everybody in the world who hashtags #Jordan is there -- moms, cute kids, nannys, sneakers, as well as Jordanians and others. So anyway, there's nothing there yet except a warning to be careful over there tonight and tomorrow. But if you want to click on cute kids' pictures, feel free, they're darling:

Anyone seeing a pattern here.

What it reminds me is of a reaction that is trying to reach Critical Mass, that is the point at which the chain reaction becomes self-evident and irreversible.

There are forces at work stirring up the hornets nest and they are about to swarm already having sent out warning stings.

These actions seem pretty engineered IMHO and could fit the concept of a false flag, albeit, not one event but multiple events throughout the Middle East.

I guess time will tell but I'd say we will all be glued to the TV sometime in the next week. (Let's hope I'm wrong because it won't be a good thing).

I fear your right,
Can you can imagine what way this is going to go if a Marine embassy guard does start hosing down these so called protestors, say if somebody took a shot at the Marines then melted back into the crowd , and let the crowd take the incoming .
The whole Muslim world would be on fire and the msm would be spinning it that the Marine was at fault and had lost his cool.
This has got the makings of a monumental fustercluck

What seemed surreal today to me was this:

I was driving home from a business meeting and listening to the radio, and O was on.

He was talking about the recent attacks.

And.....if you were from Mars and didn't KNOW he was supposed to be the freaking President of the UNITED STATES, then you would have THOUGHT he was from some OTHER country (yes, yes, I KNOW he actually IS, but he's PRETENDED up to now, right?) speaking ABOUT the USA but as a SPECTATOR or OBSERVER who is NOT FROM HERE would speak----as if WE (here in the US ) were the "them" and he thought of himself as being part of a DIFFERENT "we" when we spoke.

Am I making any sense?

And it felt SO strange, to hear the man who is supposed to be OUR President, talking detachedly about the United States as if he wasn't even connected in any way to this nation---as if he belonged to a totally DIFFERENT nationality and sense-of-belonging and loyalty---I wish I could draw a picture to show it, but imagine him standing in the middle at a podium, speaking to a crowd of all peoples of the world (and particularly Muslims) on his left, and pointing at a crowd of Americans on his right, and speaking of what "those" people did, and of what "that nation" believes, and of what "we" believe, and it hits you that the man DOESN'T IDENTIFY HIMSELF WITH THIS COUNTRY THAT HE IS PRESIDENT OF----he IDENTIFIES himself in fact as being AGAINST this country, and as belonging to ANOTHER group, from which he came inside THIS country to simultaneously PUNISH it and to REMAKE it as HIS group thinks it should be.

Again--I KNOW this has always been true---BUT UP TO NOW HE'S AT LEAST PRETENDED TO BE ALLIED TO AMERICA AND AMERICAN CAUSES--EVEN IF HE WASN'T.

NOW, HE'S TAKEN THE MASK OFF, AND IS TALKING ABOUT AMERICA AND AMERICANS AS IF THEY ARE STRANGERS--AS IF THEY ARE SOMETHING DISTINCT AND SEPARATE FROM HIM----

AND SOMETHING THAT IS ABHORRENT TO HIM.

HE IS NOT EVEN "PRETENDING" ANY MORE.

TRIPOLI - Hundreds of protesters set alight a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli on Friday, witnesses said, chanting against the pope's visit to Lebanon and shouting anti-American slogans.

Locals watching the attack said some people were shouting, "We don't want the pope" and "No more insults (to Islam.)"

The incident came as Pope Benedict began a three-day visit to Lebanon and as anger over a film which Muslims have said is blasphemous to Islam spread across the region.

Jordanians protest anti-Islam film, torch US flags

Almost 2,000 Islamists protest in the Jordanian capital Amman against the controversial anti-Islam film; some 400 Salafist Jihadists demonstrate near the US embassy

AFP , Friday 14 Sep 2012

More than 2,000 Islamists demonstrated in Amman on Friday to condemn an anti-Islam film, as the Jordanian government demanded YouTube remove trailers for the movie posted on its website.

Amid heavy security, some 400 Salafist jihadists demonstrated near the US embassy carrying black flags with the message: "There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger".

"Listen (US President Barack) Obama, all of us are Osama (bin Laden)," they chanted, referring to the slain leader of Al-Qaeda.

"We sacrifice our soul and blood for the prophet," they said as they torched US flags.

The low-budget movie, in which actors have strong American accents, portrays Muslims as immoral and gratuitously violent.

It pokes fun at the Prophet Mohammed and touches on themes of paedophilia and homosexuality, while showing him sleeping with women, talking about killing children and referring to a donkey as "the first Muslim animal."

"There is no excuse for making this film. They say amateurs made it. This is not true. Enemies of God made the movie, and this not the first time Islam has been insulted," Abdul Qader Shehadeh, a top Salafist leader also known as Abu Mohammad Tahawi, said during the demonstration.

"I tell American Zionists that your support to Jews will be eventually your end."

In central Amman, more than 1,500 Muslim Brotherhood supporters demonstrated against the move.

"There is no God but Allah and America is the enemy of Allah," they chanted before torching US flags.

"We do not want a US embassy on Jordanian territory."

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has condemned the film as "disgusting and reprehensible" and said "the United States government had absolutely nothing to do with this video."

Similar demonstrations took place in other parts of Jordan.

Jordanian Information Minister and government spokesman Samih Maaytah said Amman has sent a letter to YouTube demanding it remove parts of the film posted on its website.

"Such insults to Islam and the prophet violate all international laws as well as Jordanian laws. We respect freedom of expression but such insults are completely rejected," he wrote, according to state-run Petra news agency.

The film has sparked violent protests across the Arab world and in several Muslim-majority countries.

Iraqis burn US, Israeli flags in anti-Islam film demonstration

September 14, 2012

Iraqi protesters burned US and Israeli flags as thousands of people demonstrated for a second day Friday in cities and towns across Iraq against an anti-Islam film that has sparked outrage in the Muslim world.

In the biggest protest, thousands of people turned out in the southern port city of Basra, carrying Iraqi flags and shouting slogans including: "There is no freedom by abuses to the feelings of two billion Muslims."

The protesters burned American and Israeli flags, an AFP correspondent said.

Hundreds of people also protested in the Sunni-majority Adhamiyah area of north Baghdad after Friday prayers, while dozens of people, mainly from various Shiite parties, also demonstrated in the capital's Tahrir Square.

In Karbala, Abdul Mehdi al-Karbalai, the representative in the city of top Iraqi Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, said during his Friday sermon that "these repeated abuses could threaten peaceful life, especially among [religiously] mixed peoples."

He also condemned violence in response to the film, which portrays the Prophet Mohammed and Islam in a negative light, and sparked deadly fury in Libya, where four Americans including the ambassador were killed on Tuesday in a mob attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.

In Sunni-majority Ramadi, west of Baghdad, hundreds of people demonstrated against the film.

Hamid al-Fahdawi, one of the protest organizers, told AFP that demonstrators want the Iraqi government to dismiss the US ambassador and cut economic ties with the US.

Dozens of demonstrators also turned out in the former Sunni insurgent stronghold of Fallujah, also west of the Iraqi capital.

Sadr al-Din al-Qubanchi, a senior Shiite cleric who leads Friday prayers in the shrine city of Najaf, called for the United States to apologize to Muslims and surrender all those who worked on the film to a special Islamic court.

The governor of Nineveh province, Atheel al-Nujaifi attended a demonstration against the film in Mosul, in north Iraq.

There were also protests in various cities in Diyala province, and in other cities and towns including Hilla, Amara and Nasiriyah.

Demonstrators incensed by a film that insults the Prophet Muhammad have staged protests across the Middle East.

Violent scenes have been witnessed in Egypt, Yemen, Sudan and Tunisia.

Rallies were also held in Afghanistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said he understood the outrage in the Islamic world over the film but said it was no excuse for violence.

15:45 A large fire is burning inside the US embassy compound in Tunis.
Five protesters reported to have been wounded when police opened fire.

15:43 The Pentagon said a marine "fast" platoon is on the ground in Yemen to bolster US embassy security

15:41 Libya closed its air space over Benghazi airport temporarily because of heavy anti-aircraft fire by Islamists aiming at US reconnaissance drones flying over the city.
A Libyan official said the spy planes flew over the embassy compound and the city, taking photos and inspecting locations of radical militant groups who are believed to have planned and staged the attack on the US consulate on Tuesday.

15:34 Reuters reporter hears gunfire at US embassy compound in Sudan.

15:33 Tunisian protesters have jumped over the wall of the US embassy compound in Tunis and broke windows and set fire to trees.

14:48 Two Islamist preachers in Egypt told worshippers that those who made the movie deserved to die under sharia law but urged protesters not to take their anger out on diplomats or others.

1431 Staff at Germany's embassy in Khartoum were safe "for the moment", Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said in Berlin.
He also told Khartoum's envoy to Berlin that Sudan must protect diplomatic missions on its soil.
Police in the Sudanese capital fired tear gas to try to disperse 5,000 protesters who had ringed the German embassy and nearby British mission.

14:27 Sudanese police fired teargas to stop demonstrators approaching the US embassy outside Khartoum in a protest against a film that demeaned the Prophet Muhammad.

14:10 One demonstrator was killed and two others were wounded in clashes with security forces in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli.

A security source said the man was killed as protesters tried to storm a government building.

An Irish-Muslim leader has criticised the violence against US embassies and offered condolences to the American victims in Libya.

Dr Ali Saleem, spokesman for the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, also condemned the film and said the portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad was a red line that should not be crossed.

Speaking on RTÉ's News At One, Dr Saleem said "You can say anything against me, but not against the Prophet Muhammad".

He called on the US government to take action against those responsible for the film.
