PLAY IT'S THE TB2K WEEKEND DANCE PARTY - Unforgettable, Unmistakable, and Unique Voices!

We all have our own favorite styles and tastes in music, and some of us can be downright eclectic in those tastes. I've been thinking about the idea for this particular Dance Party for a long time, and I believe that just about anyone can have a great time with this one, and maybe find some new artists to groove to at the same time.

We all grumble sometimes that so much music today sounds alike. I know previous generations have always said the same about the music of the generations that came after them. I suspect that fans of Bach probably complained about that little upstart Mozart!

We all know those singers who just simply cannot be mistaken for any other singer. So be it opera or blues, country or heavy metal, come on in and share with everybody your favorite musicians with unforgettable, unmistakable, and unique voices! This could be anybody from Luciano Pavarotti to Janis Joplin to Willie Nelson. It's your call! Or maybe you have a favorite instrumental that really stands out as exceptional? You can share that as well!

See you out on the dance floor! :D

So I wanted to start this one off with a couple of songs that I have been listening to quite a lot over the last few months.

This one is by Boz Scaggs. I don't know anyone else who has a voice like Boz. I did not know of this song until recently, though it came out all the way back in 1980. It is absolutely beautiful - one of his best.

The guys in his backup band are the guys from Toto!

This is Shirley Bassey. Most people will probably only know her from singing early James Bond themes in Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker. I was blown away by her voice when I came across a couple of videos of her singing familiar tunes on YouTube. I'll share one now, and maybe another later on.

This is a song that has been covered by many artists, from Barbra Streisand to Tony Bennett to Frank Sinatra. The version I knew and loved the best was a duet version by James Ingram and Patti Austin. Shirley sings this one so magnificently that it sits right alongside the Ingram/Austin version as the best for me.

I love how, at the end of the performance, she is so touched by the positive reaction and applause from the audience that she is speechless, and can only manage a couple of "Thank yous". She really seems pleased that they enjoyed her performance. That's real class! She is legend in the UK, having been made a Dame of the Order of the British Empire. It's a shame that she's only known as the "Goldfinger' singer here in the US.

Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli (born 17 August 1977), known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish heavy metal singer-songwriter. She is a lyric soprano and has a vocal range of three octaves.

Turunen studied singing at Sibelius Academy and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a professional classical lied singer, and the former lead vocalist of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which she founded with Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen in 1996. Their combination of hard and fast guitar riffs with Turunen's dramatic, "operatic" lead vocals quickly achieved critical and commercial popularity. Their symphonic metal style, soon dubbed "opera metal", inspired many other metal bands and performers.

You know it's going to be good, when people are crying at the beginning of the performance,

I get a chill every time I listen to this,

Unleash the Archers is a Canadian heavy metal band from Victoria, BC,[1] currently signed with Napalm Records. The band plays a fusion of traditional heavy metal[2] with power metal[3][4][5][6] and melodic death metal.

Unleash the Archers was formed in late 2007 by vocalist Brittney Hayes (a.k.a. Brittney Slayes) and drummer Scott Buchanan with former member Brayden Dyczkowski on guitar, whom Scott had played with previously in an independent death metal project.[7] Former member Mike Selman was brought on after his departure from Canadian death metal band Meatlocker Seven. The position of bass player was unfilled for the first few months of Unleash The Archers' career, until Zahk Hedstrom joined in October 2007 to complete the lineup. In late 2008 the band recorded a self-titled four song demo, which featured two songs they would end up re-recording for their first studio album.

Brittany has a decent set of pipes, eh?

A perfect tune for your ride home tonight.

Carah Faye Charnow (born August 3, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California) is an American singer and songwriter. She was the female vocalist of the band Shiny Toy Guns (2004 – 2008, 2011 – present), with whom she scored a Grammy nomination, and is also currently the frontwoman/vocalist of the band Versant. After leaving the band in 2008, she officially returned as a vocalist for Shiny Toy Guns in February 2011.

Charnow is straight edge and states to have never drank, smoked or used recreational drugs

Discovered that both DD and I enjoy this band. When DD was in high school she got to spend the afternoon, in her capacity on the student newspaper, with STG at Milwaukee's Summerfest. She just walked up and struck up a conversation and they let her hang out. She said they were very accommodating and down to earth.

Unforgettable voices?
Oooh try Nat King Cole.

Unforgettable- Nat King Cole

(his voice makes you want to go to a swanky 50's jazz club, order a martini wet with a olive and enjoy the floor show with your missus.........

Yes! I was hoping someone would bring this one in. It's a natural given the theme. Thanks, AlfaMan!

I love his daughter, Natalie Cole, too. Amazing singers, both!

Here's another from him, the theme from the movie Autumn Leaves, starring Joan Crawford. It's a great film, too! She gives such a touching, vulnerable performance in it.

This fellow marched to his own beat, both personally and professionally. John Lennon and Paul McCartney cited him as their favorite American pop act in the early 1970s. Little Richard once told him, "My! But you sho' do sing good...for a white boy!" With a vocal range of four full octaves, he had few legitimate competitors preceding him, and there have been even fewer since.

Incredibly, all vocals and vocal effects in this track were provided by this one man:

This is an item known as the Trololo Song. It's one of the first memes, by some report. Song is 2:41, an explanation is below.

Eduard Anatolyevich Khil (Russian: Эдуа́рд Анато́льевич Хиль, IPA: [ɨdʊˈart ɐnɐˈtolʲjɪvʲɪtɕ ˈxʲilʲ] (often anglicized as Edward Hill); 4 September 1934 – 4 June 2012) was a Soviet-Russian baritone singer and a recipient of the People's Artist of the RSFSR. Khil became known to international audiences in 2010, when a 1976 recording of him singing a non-lexical vocable version of the song "I Am Very Glad, as I'm Finally Returning Back Home" (Russian: Я о́чень рад, ведь я, наконе́ц, возвраща́юсь домо́й, tr. Ya ochen rad, ved ya, nakonets, vozvrashchajus domoy) became an Internet meme, often referred to as "Trololol" or "Trololo",[1] as an onomatopoeia of the song, or as the "Russian Rickroll", and, as such, the song was commonly associated with Internet trolling. The song's newfound prominence in Internet culture led him to adopt Mr. Trololo as a stage name.[2]
